Hi guys, quick introduction on this new app.

PropAdvisor is Malaysia's #1 community project to help landlords and tenants share their bad experiences and help create a better community. Everyone can now use this platform to screen their potential landlords or tenants to prevent any unpleasant experience.

Report nasty landlords and tenants to help others to stay aware

Please click on the link below to find out more about PropAdvisor:

http://www.propadvisor.info

You can also download the app from

Android :

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...nfo.propadvisor

Apple :

https://itunes.apple.com/my/app/propadvisor...1380034163?mt=8

Do share your feedback on how to improve this platform. As we know daily rental nightmares are causing such a big dent in investors pockets. cheers!, James

**Please note this platform is for public to share their experiences. Public can also reply to a post or even add good ratings to it. In the end the goal is to have a collective experience of tenants out there in the market. This will at least give you a heads up or alert. In the event if you find an incorrect report posted, you can also report it on the platform.

Hi TrollNoob,

Thanks for your question. Our platform does not reveal full information about the reported cases. If you view the app most of the submitted data is masked. The search will perform at the backend to help you do the match instead but spits out data which are filtered not exposing the full private sensitive data but enough for you to decide if its the same person you are screening.

Its a platform to gather experiences from various landlords and agents. Similar to our platform, these information could also be posted on social media etc. however our platform takes data privacy one notch higher where we masked some parts of the data. Whereby social media doesn't filter this. For example in lowyatt itself, there are many who are posting IC picture and passport pictures.

The goal is to create a nicer and easier search platform as we know nowdays tenants are of all kind, the good, the bad and the nasty ones.

In addition, users can comment and defend the reports if they find its inaccurate. Final resort they can always report inaccurate information to us for review.

Feel free to feedback further.

Regards
James

Yes, we created this with the intent to build a better and more responsible rental community

Here is a snap shot of PDPA 2010 section that would help clarify further

The Personal Data Protection Act 2010's coverage is actually limited to personal data collected only in commercial transactions, which refers to exchanges of services, goods, insurance, or other terms as defined below:

Section 4 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 – Interpretation (In part):

“commercial transactions” means any transaction of a commercial nature, whether contractual or not, which includes any matters relating to the supply or exchange of goods or services, agency, investments, financing, banking and insurance, but does not include a credit reporting business carried out by a credit reporting agency under the Credit Reporting Agencies Act 2010.

Concurrently, the act explains that "personal data" is any form of information that is collected for processing during such exchanges, be it by a person or some form of equipment that was devised for this very purpose.

Are there any exceptions to the PDPA?

Yes, the PDPA does not apply to credit reporting business, data collected/processed for the prevention or detection of crime, for the purpose of preparing statistics and research, in accordance with a court order or for the purpose of discharging regulatory functions. The Act also does not apply to personal data that is processed outside of Malaysia.
