the wireless mode will work flawlessly, it connect through bluetooth.
But you can connect the wireless controller using micro usb cable, in that mode, you don need battery but wired.

So far i've been using wireless (thats why i bought the wireless controller).
If you want wired controller, there are lots of choices around with cheaper price though.

I can recommend the Switch Pro controllers too but could prove to be pricey
They work through bluetooth syncing though, so if your PC/laptop don't have bluetooth capabilities, you can't use it

I have a Switch Pro controller and can confirm Steam now supports both wireless (bluetooth) and wired (usb) connectivity with full rumble and gyro support are now possible

Thanks for the information replies guys..

I plan on connecting 2 wireless controller, but not sure if my motherboard bluetooth is up to it. Concern on lag and dc. No way to confirm this until i buy 2 and try it.

I'm using Window 10 and mobo is Aorus Gaming 5. Hopefully the bluetooth is good enough to support 2 wireless controller.

I see the price for Switch Pro, Xbox One, DS4 all roughly quite close in pricing. So eventually it will go back to personal preference on design i guess.

I used Xiaomi bluetooth game controller.
Use app to map to xbox 360 controller. https://github.com/irungentoo/Xiaomi_gamepad/releases
It works perfect for me. (single user)
