Anyone here knows where to buy fabric/material?

Thinking of doing a DIY and save some money.

Thanks in advance.

Since you're on the cheap, stretch up a white bedsheet or repaint the wall?.

I have thought of D.I.Y. too but not too sure which material to use like you guys here. Actually, I have set my eyes on a 92" fixed screen with nice black borders. But, it cost about RM1,500

I have made a 84" (16x9) screen from white plywood (those for furniture) 4 years ago, and painted it with ICI Pentalite Misty Evening (for those who followed AVS forum would know this favorite paint for grey screen at that time) I have hung the screen like a picture frame.

Goto Ace Hardware to buy the smooth roller, and paint it with the roller. The result is amazing as the board will have some fine texture.

All the other equipment are DIY, including wiring, mount and installation.

My screen is made of plywood, wall on the screen painted with pentalite black, surrounding wall painted with Jotun Burgundy Red (top half), bottom half sticked with Superlon sheet for sound absortion and curtains are Burgundy velvet material. Of course, the sofa beds are from Macys' Burgundy Red.

Another solution:

1. Go make a big wooden picture frame, to the size you want.
2. Go to MYDIN to buy some blackout cloth. They have many types and color, from white to silver.
3. Stretch the blackout cloth onto the frame.
4. Test it on your projector. See if you like what you see.
5. Otherwise, go buy/mix some paint, and paint it. www.avsforum.com has a section of DIY screen with many paint formulation.
6. Have FUN cool2.gif

As mentioned, my screen mainly DIY made of plywood. My frame is made of pine wood 50 mm x 25 mm (good recycled pine wood from packaging) I need softwood, easier to handle. Borders are made of 12 mm card board from photo frame shop. Tried to cut the corner DIY failed, due to lousy precision. vmad.gif

Then I sent to photo frame shop for the corners and frame works. Bought the card board there too.

Total material used:

1. White Plywood - RM50
2. Pine Frame - Free
3. Card board border - RM10
4. Labour charges for frame work - RM20
5. ICI Pentalite Misty Evening - RM20 (a liter)
6. ICI Matt Black - RM20 (a liter)
7. Soft Roller from Ace Hardware - RM30
8. Screws, Hanger, Liquid Nail and various small hardware stuffs - RM40+/-
9. Own Labour - 3 evenings to midnight (FOC smile.gif )
10. Experience & Result - PRICELESS thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

DIY - It is not that hard ! rclxm9.gif

I have painted my HT room, screen, black Superlon etc in 2 weeks only (5 hours in the evening) All installations are also DIY, including projector mounting. thumbup.gif

Thanks

Bro, good job there. But, I am lousy in painting. Cant stand the smell. Btw, what's the dimension of your room? Looks big. I have got a 10' (W)x 20' room. But, I felt it wld be a bit cramp as some1 said the ideal is 12'

I've got a 20'x16' room. Big enough really. I don't need a 28'x20' room unless I'm doing some 16' wide screen. so my configuration is great.

Any idea where to get these paint?

16 oz. Delta Pearl Metallic #02601
12 oz. Delta Silver Metallic #02603
7 oz. UPW flat
4 oz. Delta Pale Metallic Gold #02624
14 oz. Minwax Polycrylic - Satin finish

thanks!

20' x 16' is really a big room. Not many houses have this size of room unless you are talking about semi-detached or detached houses. But, this kind of room is perfect for HT or music purpose

So I've heard. Might be starting on screen next week if god permits smile.gif. Asking our carpenter to do the frame, while I go shop for some BOC and paint.

Cheers!
