Got speculation the guy who ripped Nero's arm is Vergil.
Can't wait for next year. |

Dante in DMC5 looks to be Dante AFTER DMC2. That hell bike was only present in DMC2 so this means it has been a rather long time after DMC4.
Timeline: DMC3 > DMC1 > DMC4 > DMC2 > DMC5 Oh and Reuben Langdon IS reprising his role as Dante. Johnny Yong Bosch is also back as Nero. Now Dan Southward just needs to confirm his role as Vergil... |

QUOTE “This is a direct sequel to Devil May Cry 4. It takes place several years after Devil May Cry 4 and Nero has been gifted the neon ‘Devil May Cry’ sign of Dante, which is actually a detail that’s not mentioned in the game, but in a novelization. Nero uses it to set up his own mobile demon-hunting agency, and that’s how our story begins. “You’ll find that there’s a lot of new stuff. But what we can talk about specifically is Nero’s new weaponized robotic arm, which he uses for hunting demons, that we call ‘Devil Breaker.’ You’ll be able to catch a couple of hints as to what they’ll be capable of if you pay careful attention to the gameplay of the trailer, but you can look forward to hearing more details at Gamescom. “It’s been 10 years since Devil May Cry 4, so my boss came to me and said that in order to keep it relevant for today, we’ll need to make something that you can take one glance at and know that it’s quality. So we chose to make it with a photorealistic graphic style. We found, though, that without the proper care, photorealism combined with gaming animation can lead to, what I refer to as, an uncanny valley of action. So we put a lot of effort in to ensure that the game would still play with that tight Capcom play control, but still feel at home with realistic graphics. We’d love for fans to pay careful attention to how that feels. “After making Devil May Cry 4, we planned on going right into making the Special Edition, but that fell through at the time. We eventually did follow through with that three years ago, by the way. And at that point, lots of the dev members wanted to try their hand at making a new one, so that’s what I’m most excited about. Now we get to make the game that we wanted to make for 10 years.” |

So glad that they didn't break away from the DMC formula.
Corridor > fight room > puzzle > fight room > corridor > boss. Too bad the player in the demo doesn't know much about jump cancelling, blue rose buffering and proper rev timing. Doesn't really show off the gameplay's depth. |

Busted out DMC4 over the weekend... the game holds up so well still, freaking ridiculous that 10 years later not a single action-adventure game has rivaled DMC4's combat depth.

DMC5 will have online coop. Not much details yet, but I'm thinking it's probably for Bloody Palace. Still... thinking about the possibilities of online MP combo videos is mind blowing.

QUOTE(Morales @ Nov 3 2018, 10:50 AM) Well I played the demo at TGS twice this year and honestly, I had some mixed reactions. While I'm very happy the design of DMC has been retained (it's quite DMC4 esque), I'm a little weary about the change in combat. You see in previous games, the combat design was based off fighting games - which means you have a lot of mechanics like jump canceling, button buffering, just frame inputs and general frame data. With DMC5, they've streamlined a lot of that and it's like a hybrid between DmC and DMC4 now. You can't really jump cancel anymore, moves are not as dynamic and if you attempt to do something similar - the game just wouldn't allow you to keep an enemy being juggled in the air infinitely (like you could in DMC4). That said, the revised combat IS fun. It's definitely not bad and it'll definitely help new players have more freedom in the game because the execution barrier in DMC4 isn't what I'd say newbie friendly. New players can do cool shit in DMC5 much easier than before is what I'm saying.. Pre order? Well... I know I'm playing this game day 1. I'm a sucker for DMC. You can always wait a few more months before deciding. Capcom will be showing more of the game, so perhaps that will help your decision. |

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Nov 7 2018, 05:07 PM) Both are trash. Their combat hand hold you to do shit instead of you doing your own stuff. Imagine playing a fighting game where all you need to do is press 2 buttons. Your standard is high, Saiyan Bayonetta got fairly close to matching DMC4 though. Thanks for the reply |

Alright, so on the PS4 Pro - performance is fairly solid 60fps most of the time during combat. However there are noticeable drops especially when terrain in the level starts shifting, doesn't hamper gameplay but well it's there. This was the same case back on DMC4 on PS3/360 and also DMC3 back on the PS2, so nothing new here.
Now what bothers me is the fluidity of the cutscenes. It's quite juddery and the transition from gameplay to cutscene feels awkward. In any case, I'm so glad DMC is back the way it is. There's definitely a mash of DMC4 and that ill-fated reboot DmC and I think this is a happy balance for both veterans and newcomers. Can't wait for March! ---- On that note, the "NEW OFFICIAL" timeline for DMC is: DMC3 > Anime > DMC1 > DMC2 > DMC4 > DMC5. Yeah, you read that right. Lmao. No capcom, you can't just re-write your bullshit simply because you knew you fuck'd up ages ago. I'll continue to pretend that DMC2 never existed. The auto mode in every DMC SUCKS. Hate auto combos. If they really wanted to ease newbies into the combat, they just need to do make auto mode have a larger frame input for each move so that even noobs can do just frame moves fairly easily. That's all that is needed.
Auto combos and hand holding isn't going to help a newbie to get better at all and actually create bad habits. |

Loving every moment of it . Had a blast playing thru the first few chapters last night , the airtight control is nothing less than impressive .
Oh that Jazz version of Devil Trigger from the pre-order theme is just too sweet . A strong candidate of 2019's GOTY for sure. Looks really good on PS4 PRO as well , check out the DF 's latest analysis There is also a problem with the default brightness setting for SDR mode , washed out and cloudy black levels with very severe shadow details crushing. On HDR compatible TVs, the game seems to be able to detect your HDR TV and give them a default value , which works flawlessly . This post has been edited by Convael: Mar 8 2019, 04:41 PM |

You do have to watch the pets health and DT bar more often playing as him . Never run out of things to press controlling him , look at the pets and arsenal at his control , leave your golem to rampage along with excellent set of air attacks from the birdie , he is just so very versatile . Oh he can even glide in the air ! Everytime his hair turned white be assured your screen will explode into a chaotic mess , in the most magnificent way . Anyways, took the weekend to finish the game and on the whole; I'm really, really impressed and glad that DMC is back the way it should be. Love the game mostly.
+ The most important thing, the combat system - is amazing. Thank the lord sparda that capcom didn't simplify the combat. It's easy enough for beginners to pick up and have fun, yet still very deep for the veterans. It's a return to form and I'm so glad that REAL action-adventure games are back. ---- + Still loving Nero's exceed system, took me a few missions to be nailing the timing for 3 bars exceed again but holy shit is it satisfying to pull that off in a middle of a combo. His Devil Breaker arm is a pretty refreshing mechanic and I quite honestly, I think it works better than just his plain old Demon Arm back in DMC4 (I'll speak more about the arm again after more people have finished the game though). I just wish that we could manually switch the arm in-game instead of forcefully destroying it. Imagine the combo possibilities opening up otherwise! + Dante has so many moves, yet the one crucial thing that Capcom didn't do like in DMC4 was to cram everything into his arsenal. You see, being able to customize his loadout is such a nice touch, you want 2 melee weapons and 2 range weapons like in DMC3? You got it! You want everything and the kitchen sink like in DMC4? Go ahead! You want something in between? Got you covered. Dante's combat system is deeper than Nero and it'll take some time to really be decent with him. + The controls are tight and responsive due to the target for 60fps. I'm really glad they stuck to the 60fps target instead of taking the easy way out for 30fps. + Boy does the game look good. The character models are beautiful, the rigging and animation team has done a fantastic job in how all the characters and its counterparts move. There's a nice flow to it yet kept wholly in the realm of "holy shit, wtf did I just witnessed" realm. The VFX are overdone just like past DMC games, but they're such a treat to look at. Capcom has been pushing for the "photo realistic" look since RE7, but they hit the jackpot here on balance between realism and supernatural. The facial animation here is top notch and I think even better than RE2R. Usually in action games, such attention to facial animation detail is uncommon but yet the artists said - screw it, we're going beyond the uncanny valley. + The audio... well, to be honest after RE7 and RE2R - I was having unusually high hopes for DMC5. Capcom hits right another jackpot here. Every accompanying sound effect, sounds amazing. They brought back old effects, they made new ones. It sounds like DMC and not DmC and that's all it really matters IMO. ~ While I love Nero's "Pull my Devil Trigger" track, I dislike the almost cringey track of V's. It's so bland, generic metal. It's the kind of bashing your skull tune people who has never really heard metal think of, just like how people who has never heard of ballads thinking that they're just cry me a river love songs. This goes the same for Dante, which is kinda perplexing too. Thankfully, you can switch out the battle tracks if you bought the Deluxe Edition. But if you didn't... ugh. ~ V's combat is... awkward. It's a breath of fresh of air I guess, but it's practically easy mode. It's so easy to get SSS in-game with him, even on DMD mode his missions are relatively simple. There are depth to his combat skills however, like did you know that you don't actually have to weaken an enemy to go for the kill? You could actually just parry enemies and do a just frame instant kill instead. It's actually pretty cheap once you get the timing down. ~ The default Devil Hunter mode is just too easy. Now I fully understand that Capcom wants newcomers not to be overwhelmed and frustrated with the game (something DMC1 and DMC3 was infamous for). But for me, personally - the default difficulty is way too easy. I S-ranked most missions first try without even trying. I feel that Son of Sparda mode should have been unlocked from the beginning as an extra choice for those that want more of a challenge as a first time playthrough. I could have just killed Urizen on mission 1 to end the game (yes, you technically can finish the game in 20 minutes lol) and unlock SoS mode immediately, but I didn't know that until more than half way through the game. - Once you go down the Qliphoth tree, majority of the environments look the same. The level design starts becoming bland and generic, there aren't that many variety to the setting unfortunately and I think it's the only major disappointment I have with the game. ---- I'm glad DMC is back and I don't know if this will indeed be the last DMC game or not. But having waited over a decade for this, I don't really mind anymore if it is the last one. Whichever way it is, DMC5 is an amazing game for newcomers and long time fans of the series. Welcome back Capcom, welcome back Devil May Cry. This post has been edited by SSJBen: Mar 11 2019, 03:33 PM |

QUOTE(danger46 @ Mar 12 2019, 10:53 AM) Exactly. Already told Capcom they should have an auto-skip cutscene option with the next update (which is Bloody Palace). That said, I put the game on SSD. Load times are fairly quick. |

It's great to play DMC after so many years. Nero still nice to play, same goes with Dante. V does not play so smooth though. One of my complaints is how the mission is structured. Just when you are getting the hang of Nero, switch to V and then Dante again. Would prefer something like a Nero line, Dante line etc

Finished DMD last night. Some parts are ridiculously tough but it's so satisfying when you beat it and I managed to beat the final boss without taking any damage. Feelsgoodman

Literally just throwing money at problems during Dante's missions in DMD but it's a good thing that you can easily farm about 800k orbs every 5 minutes in chapter 13.I am kinda suck at this game |

Royal Guard > everything. I'm glad my RG skills are still mostly intact. Makes everything rather easy to be honest, at least in comparison to some of Nero's missions.

so I just got the game today on PS4.
couldn't get a deal, everywhere I looked it was going for RM240. Anyway, tried to beat the boss on prologue with base skills, got the shields down but it was way too long. Died and found out that most people beat the prologue mission after finishing the story. Oops. Finished mission 2, found 2 blue orb fragments so far and another one in the secret mission. The progression on mission 2 reminds me so much of DMC4. There's a courtyard where you fight and that courtyard also becomes the arena for the secret mission plus you fight a big monster at the end. Anyway, using devil breaker sure needs getting used to. I wasn't a heavy devil bringer user but I did use the level 3 charge gun religiously. Too bad they change the way charged guns work this time. Also, kinda annoyed that they changed split to hold back instead of front. It's messing with muscle memory and screwing inputs for calibur. Did they change the input for helm breaker too? |

Will wait for price drop. I'm playing DMC: ninja theory at the moment, in my opinion it was an underated gem. Sure enough Dante looks like a junkie, but the battles are seriously fun.

I am having some difficulty getting S ranks with V. Anyone got tips?
The part I'm having difficulty with is positioning cat and bird, sometimes they're too far from the enemy and I can't quite get the direction they're facing just right so it messes with inputs that require holding back or back forward. I'm also using base skills since I'm just on Mission 5, but I'm buying additional skills little by little. Is the common method of getting S rank in battles with V with heavy reliance on calling nightmare? I haven't been using mare or buffing catbird attacks with devil trigger. Royal fork seems really attractive to me though so maybe I'll just used DT for that since I feel like there's a bonus for consecutive kills.
