You must own the car for 9 mnths to qualify.. 70% tax off the intial retail price ... after 6 years old.. 10% off the remaining price every year after..
So very little tax if the car is 7 to 8 years old...

what is stated is mostly right... in the process of exporting one myself from Japan
the percentage I quote is only from the intial value - minus depreciation x tax...
example...100k car after 6/7 years 30k x 300%(varaiable according to cc and category) would cost about 120k in all..
below 2l car 7/8 yo value at 30k usually has 25 to 30k in tax... so 60k...
the car is not transferable for 2 years after import

QUOTE(mystvearn @ May 21 2007, 09:48 PM) So 2nd hand lebih murah? So can bypass the 9mth rule?
BTW, if you buy the car, ship it, make sure don't put anything in the car, they will throw it away. Only manual can put in the car, the rest cannot, so don't think this is one cheap way of shipping some of your stuff back cause customs will just throw it away. Cushions/ornaments also cannot put. 2nd hand plus at least 6 to 7 years old.. send by 20/40footer container ... you can dunk all valaubles, accesoriess, furniture. bed, tv, bike, fridge, etc in as well. As of March 22nd 2006... The maximum tax charged is only 165% for above 3L ... no longer 300% customs.gov.my have not update their site in a long time... 2 years at least... still use old 2005 calculation 130% for below 2L engine... no matter van/car/4wd. source: http://paultan.org/archives/2006/03/24/nap-tax-rates/This post has been edited by BeastX: May 22 2007, 06:22 PM
