QUOTE(amon_meiz @ Jun 9 2018, 01:26 PM) Disney wars is shit Badguy is still meant to be a sympathetic character screaming rahrah slavery etcLast jedi is utter turd But I dont think black panther have any character that let million die cuz "black lives yo" If anything, its the opposite The movie show we all same and equal By opening wakanda to the outside world And admit their predecessor mistakes By closing wakanda and ignore other people suffering They are as wrong as the whites that used to enslave them And Wakanda is making the same mistake, accepting Killmonger (sp?) argument and trying to do black-centric affirmative action ie bumiputera policy And that is the "happy ending" of the movie Same shit, different smell Anyway, doesn't matter if you or me believe in BLM or PETA or whatever, inserting RL political controversies into movies is itself a sin IMHO |

QUOTE(amon_meiz @ Jun 9 2018, 01:56 PM) Nah. I disagree. Sympathizing with villain does not mean legitimizing his belief. The parallel is exactly the same with Jurassic WorldWe understand that he is a misguided person. Doesnt mean we agree with him Eh? How did wakanda accept and conduct bumiputera policy? Also. i disagree. I have no problem with politics in movies Politics is part of our lives Why the need to remove it from the media we consume If done well, movies can educate people about the nuance issues in our life. Just like how movie been teaching us about love and friendship It also can teach us about equality and fairness. Protagonist's action at the end is presented as the "correct" thing to do For JW, free animals no matter what For BP, champion black affirmative action using his wakandan tech You are right, IF done well movies can educate people about nuances in life. Usually this is done by showing what is both good and bad. Goodfellas for example shows both the glamour of gangster life and the reality of murders, death, destroyed family etc But Fast and Furiois only show the glamour, with almost zero consequences, happy ending for all, even normal family relationships A movie which is focused on delivering one argument however will usually be one sided. And there are few blockbuster movies with the objective of providing fair treatment to both sides of an issue. If thats the case, then I much rather that blockbuster movies avoid super sensitive and/or ongoing issues like BLM politics, and choose simpler topics. But Hollywood nowadays are all pushing a certain agenda as a marketing technique. BP and WW in particular have proven that inferior movies can get above average reviews and sales by strongly marketing their political correctness themes. |
