Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn 'Abbas, who said, "Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, 'Don't punish (anybody) with Allah's Punishment.' No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.'"
Now this Hadith can be interpreted many ways. Some say it must be read literally(ehmm ISIS). Some say it's just a metaphor. Some say it's abrogated. Some say it's hearsay coz someone is paraphrasing what the prophet is saying,so cannot pakai (so why is it there?). Some even say don't read Hadith la all bullshit. All these different opinions are from Muslims. They all think they are right. They all have good imaginary reasoning.
Oh yes and some say it's true but we implement by ignoring all these cases. Yours truly, Jakim
