So my Tenda F3 router that I ordered from lazada has a sucky connection.Should I get a homeplug or a better router?
I have daily usage of gaming so I want a low ping.If I get a homeplug,how do i know if it's compatible with my house?

check if your house one phase or three phase, three phase wiring not recomended to use homeplugs as they tend to be unreliable, sometimes they just don't work on three phase wiring. Also if your wiring is quite old, i also don't recommend due to reliability.

Better to wire your house with LAN if low ping is really your main priority.

You gotta gamble.

Btw here's my experience. I bought this d-link homeplug about RM 300 and it doesn't work at my house coz I need it on different floor. I read online and it said many things about 3 phase wiring and blah blah I don't understand. So I guess my house isn't supported. Coz when I tested it at my sister's house, it works even on different floor. So yeah whatever.

However to my surprise, when I bought tp-link homeplug which is more expensive than the d-link, it works even on different floors at my house. So now I'm confused my house is 3 phase or not. And it seems like tp-link is using some additional hardware to make it work. That's why it's more expensive and it works. I bought it for RM 400. This model got both 2.4ghz and 5ghz WiFi with 3 gigabit ethernet port on one end. The other end is just 1 gigabit ethernet port. I bought it in set. So yes RM 400 includes two adapter I mentioned.

the tenda router u just bought from lazada? maybe try to negotiate with the seller see whether they allow u to return it and get another better one.

about homeplug, can borrow from friend or relative to test it. i am using it on three phase power for unifi tv, so far it is quite reliable.

Homeplug is pretty much hit or miss. You could consider running cables across your house.

Spare some rm700 to 800, go buy yourself a netgear or asus router. It will serve your WiFi needs wonderfully for years to come.

That Tenda you may bin it away if you aren't feeling to donate it.

I know this fact first hand bcos I was cheapskate back then trying to save money using cheap router like tp-link but end up not really happy with the WiFi performance.

BTW, what's your house layout like? A 2 story house?

Your router is your home gateway to the internet. Try invest in a good and reliable router to have a satisfactory experience with your ISP.

If you want a router with good wifi coverage, ASUS is better from other vendors.

Say no to HomePlug.

Even this is not a good suggestion and many seller don’t like it, but u can try if u want. u can buy from lazada and test it out, if not suitable, then return it and get refund.

Don’t mind messy house? Get a cable and it is the best.

WiFi generally have very high ping time.

And, I still think a Ethernet cable in every big house to every room is a must. Or at least provision point for AP.

No, I even play games on it. Sub-15ms to Valve server.

If Someone need homeplug instead of WiFi, I believe there must be a distance between user and WiFi. In such situation, even a good WiFi router can get users connected, but the ping time is high, because signal need to pass through walls. May be u can get low ping time sometime, but it is not stable.

May be u can recommend the WiFi model here and he can give it a try. Cheap router really really unbearable for gamer. It is a donation. I do vote for asus router, huawei modem also very good.

Homeplug. Buy TPLink which supports 3phase wiring. Other than homeplug, wired AP.

Its best to avoid wireless repeater or wireless bridge.

I went with HomePlug method many years ago. Reliable if power is single phase. If three phase, very spotty.

Decided to upgrade the router. The Asus RT-N66U was great at first and then after latest firmware, performance worse than a cheap TP-Link router. Retire it and used Apple Airport. Expensive but reliable for few more years.

This year, replaced all with D-Link (can't remember which model but has 4 antennas) and immediately, my network is stable again. For downstairs, I added a Netgear EX-6200 and set it to transit at full power. Now my 2.5 storey house as full internet coverage with just 2 devices only. No more HomePlugs or APs everywhere.

Listen to the other forumers' advice and bin the router and get a better router. Asus router is much better and you will save money in the long run.

Homeplugs had never been decent options for gaming. You need proper QOS to ensure the lowest possible latency. That means a high end router with fast processor (read > RM1k routers) and good 5GHz radio chips if you game via wifi.

No. You can change your home plug SSID to your router SSID, and it will be seamless roaming.

I had used TP-Link before, games work as well, but the firmware is buggy and not being updated. Switched to ASUS and has no complain, now I'm getting monthly firmware update to patch security loophole & new features.

I am using TP-Link and you are right. It does not get updated as often as ASUS and Asus is very good with firmware updates. My next router would be Asus for sure.

You need combination of product or invest in a grade router instead however depend on budget wise issue

I was once having such bad connection until this year.

You need get a good router and wireless adapter. I currently getting 2ms on a wifi connection.

What you need to buy?
A Wi-Fi router that support beamforming and a wireless adapter that also support beam forming . I easily get 52mbps on my unifi and also 2ms

Thank you for this bro. I am aware of your setup. But saying that home plug is outdated is incorrect. It is much better than extender if you are in a single phase wiring, and of course a good router and wireless adapter is the way to go.

I have used homeplug before had so much problem. Especially 3 phase certain plug cant link to certain plug and if run too many house suddenly connection died. Need restart i am speaking from using homeplug for 2 years.

Hassle you need go to the point to restart while i can restart my router and wireless adapter from my pc.

Of course, if you seen the advice here from us, we have told many others that homeplug does not work or work very
poorly on three phrase wiring, as the data is transmitted over electrical lines, and three phase is not on the same circuit. The best investment is still a great router and wireless adapter.

FYI guys I just bought a homeplug and I finally got to utilize my 30 mbps unifi fully.
I bought aztech homeplug since people complain about tp-link so much.Very low ping(around 5-7ms).No packet loss.Never disconnect.

FYI, TP Link is not the problem here. Most people are not aware that their house is three phase wiring. If you use Aztecs home plug on a three phase wiring, it would be problematic as well.

Like most of the forumer advise, pls invest a good router. Eventually you save your money and your valuable time. It is very frustrated every time you need to reset and troubleshoot your home WiFi.

Pls go to check Lazada, ASUS Lyra is on sales now RM999, the original price was RM1999. Good deals I am using it right now, no issue. It works for Unifi/Maxis and TIME.

Actually tplink also ok, just make sure u get the model av1200 which come with newer qualcomn chipset.

At that pricing - I rather get something like a Mikrotik + Ubiquiti setup

Those consumer routers are not that good for the money if you ask me - enterprise ones are much better although you will be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of configurations you can do

Bonus: they are much more secure and likely to get firmware/security updates quicker, as this is meant for the enterprise market

Happy to hear you have a good results. If you get a better router, you will have the same results though. I am sure you are using C1200 or DIR850L true? That is basic and not even worth it to be used.
