Could it be the Xel'naga's doing cos in SC they said that the xelnaga has long been trying to make a perfect race out of the purest of essence and purest of energy form.
How come you get e-mails if they have beta released, did you register at blizzard?
I'm approaching the end of the novel and nothing has been told about the idea of combining Protoss and Zerg.
This first novel is surrounding an archaeologist named Prof. Jacob Jefferson Ramsey, also known as Jake and a Protoss Preserver (Preserver are those who keep Protoss memory) named Zamara. Zamara went into Jake's body during Jake's venture into a Protoss temple, so now Zamara somehow "live" in Jake body. And Zamara is trying to pass down all the memory that she has kept to herself to Jake and granted Jake the title of Preserver.

Protoss has been created by the Xel'Naga, also known as the Wanderer from Afar by those who honored him and known as the Great Betrayer by those who think he had abandoned them. At the early stage, Protoss is divided into 6 tribes and there were no unity among the tribes. The 6 tribes often fight among each other (no idea why).
But there are two Protoss from She'lak tribe who honored the relics left by Xel'Naga, trying hard to discover the true knowledge of these relics. From there, they learnt how to write to pass information to their generation, discover beauty of Golden Mean (if you dont know wth is this, go google it out, I'm too lazy to explain it here), the use of Khalis crystals and a Xel'Naga temple (according to Jake, this "temple" is as huge as a city, so I suspect Xel'Naga stayed there during their stay in Aiur). The story ends when one of the Protoss claimed he had understood what Xel'Naga is trying to tell their, the Protoss. From my guessing, his understanding has brought Protoss into unity and it give Protoss the idea of combining their thought with their emotion into one.
