If every single thing is design for the pro, what about the average gamers? They dont have to play SC2 and play some other RTS?

Seriously, whats wrong with automine? It's a freaking common feature in any RTS now. It's just like Rally Point in any RTS.

The more i see SC2,the more i feel it's only for the pros.Everything is tailored for them.Even Khaydarin Crystals needs to be team coloured because of them. doh.gif

Welcome to starcraft. rclxms.gif

That's why starcraft is sports. That's why watching pro games is so much fun. Thats why starcraft is still played by millions even after 10 years of its release. The huge skills required to master this game is what made this game the greatest. Multitasking, macro, micro, strategy and making tactical decision under pressure is huge part of starcraft that made this game stands out compared to other rts.

You can compare starcraft with football. It requires dedication and time, maybe some talent to master.
Not everyone can become pro but you still see ppl play the sport. Most ppl are amazed when they watch players like Ronaldinho play because they know they cant do that in their game. You know why this players are pro. That why its fun watching them play.

Its the same with starcraft. Watching players like Bisu multitask gave me the feeling of orgasm. Near 400 apm and none of those apm are unnecessary actions. Why it's fun? because i know that even if i practice for 5 years there's no guarantee i can even achieve that level of multitasking. When you play starcraft it is endless, there's always room for improvement. I want Starcraft 2 to be the same.

Having such difficulties doesn't mean casual gamers can't enjoy it.
Im a D/D- minus players myself but i still enjoy the game. I enjoy playing and watching starcraft pro games.
Automine is imba. Imagine binding 3 base to hotkey and rallying to crystal, it kills macro. With MBS you can macro from 14 gates with two or four click, it's imba. It's not fair for those who spend their time mastering that art.

Well, if you think its too hard for you, there's always DotA for you to play.

By your logic, Blizzard should also remove Attack-Move, build-queuing, rally points, way points, the Right Click system, etc... Hell, why don't they do away with basic unit pathfinding since that would be the ultimate in APM use since your units are only capable of moving in a straight line on their own.

Come to think of it, you should HATE the Right Click Context system as well, since it allows "noobs" to skip a single click when performing actions... Do your pros all do that?

Regardless of whether its going to be an e-sport title, it still is a commercial game at heart... and we all know how Blizzard always, ALWAYS favours accessibility first.

Also, with automining, pros no longer have to waste precious clicks to perform such a rudimentary action, thus saving their precious APMs for other things.

If Blizzard was making SC 2 just for the Koreans, they wouldn't have released it anywhere else.

I dont care about the pros but i do expect changes and innovation in any game's sequel.SC2,in my opinion, fail to impress me much in terms of innovation.Computer games is about technology, innovation and art. It's not about making a game to be a virtual football, even it's suppose to be a e-sport game.

I agree with H@H@.Blizzard should remove all the interface features so that SC2 will become like Dune 2.No way point,no multi unit selection,no build order queuing and other. That would be a very high apm game that pros will enjoy so much.

Seriously,im getting really sick of all these pros shit.Every single thing is designed for them.Khaydarin Crystals and Psi Blade are team colourable now because the pros cant differentiate the colours of their units and others if the team colourable bits are too small.Terran is essentially the same as SC1 because the pros dont like the new Terran.Mothership is no longer a single unit per army because of these pros again. This kind of sequel is even worse that what EA release.SC2 is just SC1 in 3D.

Cant these people take some changes,im not asking Blizzard to make drastic changes that change the game completely from top to bottom.

If they remove the Queen concept for Zerg and Terran is still a piece of crap as now.I wont play this at all.I dont have much time for gaming now and i wont waste my time on a 10 year old game in 3D.

Also, for gawd sakes, please dont mention dota on this thread and i'll never play dota. It's a map for emo lazy teenagers.

Pro this and pro that... without gameplays that beginners can learn to adapt easily, the market for SC2 would be small. Blizzard needs to create games for everyone, not just the pros. Not every one has the time to learn to press hotkeys as fast as lightning, or micro 100 units at one time; there are more casual gamers at the end of the day.

Dota... don't associate emo teenagers with it. tongue.gif Emo people write dark music and dress gothic, not play games sweat.gif Joking.

I think the Pro stuff is just a bit too much to swallow.

I don't want an updated exact version of Starcraft without any new things whatsover. I want something fresh, something evolutionary.

I think Warcraft 3 was indeed a break from the usual RTS we were so used to.

Now if Blizzard could do something like that of similar would be great.

Spot on! If games are only good if their players slice off insane amount of time to 'train', they'll turn into just about any other 'grind-fest' *cough*mm0*cough*. My best memories of SC1 will always be the engaging story, soundtrack and unit behaviors. Balanced yet friendly.

For SC2, amidst all the mess after broodwar, I cant wait to find out how the finale will turn out to be... (another sequel? arghhh)

SC2 should have both the pros as well as the "amateur/ leisure" features.
Removing too many of the said basic interface features would not automatically categorized an RTS with pro feature.

It's the few time-proven games that are still being widely played despite being a 10-year-old game. I would agree that the graphic is much obsolete if compare to the vast capabilities of what the current graphic processing card that can offer.

When SC2 comes, fans all over the world would expect it to stay for another 10 years (just like SC) or more.

I'm assuming that Starcraft is a very graphics card friendly game judging from Blizzard's past games which had low system requirements.

After watching the gameplay videos, the game looks very promising, though I doubt it'll outshine it's predecessor.

I got "nuked" by this one. To be honest i dont know how to answer this one.
Still, i expect the mechanics to stay as it is. Blizzard is the trendsetter. They dont need to follow other company when deciding what to implement in their game. If you play Starcraft then will you be able to understand what most seasoned starcraft players feel. SBS and massive multitasking is part of Starcraft. If you take them then its not Starcraft anymore.

No one force you to play Starcraft 2. If you dont have time dont play competitively just play casually. You think i have time to play Starcraft intensively? If i have time to play at least 15 games a day i would be C- player by now.

That why Blizzard shouldn't listen to someone who will play the game for 2 or 3 years then jump to other game. They shouldn't listen to bandwagon jumpers. Blizzard should listen to loyal Starcraft fans who understand what makes the game great. This type of players are the one that will play this game even after 10 years of its release.

If you think Blizzard is the trend starter, then, you are wrong.Blizzard have been ripping off things from other sources like Warhammer 40k.Those who played Dawn of War or know Warhammer 40k will notice there are so many similarities between the art of Starcraft universe and Warhammer 40k Universe. For example,Terran Marine looks a lot like a Space Marine, especially the rounded shoulder.Zerg,on the other hand,it's a carbon copy of Tyranids and it's concepts are very similar.Zerg has a "leader" which is Overmind or now,Kerrigan.Tyranids, has a Hivemind which is the master mind of the whole fleet.Protoss is also a copy of Eldar.A dying race, good at psychics and technology.Do note that,im not saying Warhammer 40k is original. They rip even more things from various sources from WW1 to Terminators.

In terms of gameplay,SC1 is also based on the RTS before it like Dune 2 or C&C1 but the difference is Blizzard improve it so much till it pawns the hell out of the RTS at it's time.

If Blizzard is a trendsetter, they would have make everything themselves. What i believe is Blizzard takes stuff from other RTS but improve it so that it pawns the rest like WoW.I expect SC2 to have this quality take ideas from others and improve it but now,it has failed to impress me.It's practically SC1 in 3D all thanks to all these over conservative pros

If Blizzard listens to only those diehard loyal fans,i guess there isnt much point for me to play SC2 since the loyal fans want it to be a 3D version of SC1 where they still can do the same thing in SC2 as they are in SC1.

If it's like this,Relic should listen to me too because i have been sticking to it since DoW 1.0.Im a loyal DoW fan and they should improve modding.

To each, his own, right? tongue.gif If you check out what the local cc loungers do to 'abuse' sc here, you'll find out what a turnoff it'll be. doh.gif

EDIT: Ive actually followed up on Games Workshop news back in the wee days, and I agree that SC does share a lot of similarities with the Warhammer 40,000 universe. In fact, it shouldn't be surprising as most game designers and artists look to other great, existing, titles and work for inspiration on their own. For them to have garnered ideas from such sources, but not to the extent of blatantly copying entire designs, I applaud Blizzard for coming out with such an impressive and resilient title. On it being 'the' trendsetter for the rts genre... I would say its one of a few.

The RTS genre is full of trendsetters and followers. The two are not mutually exclusive to one another. Where Starcraft introduced the much used Attack-Move, etc, it also borrowed the "Shift-click" waypoint system and build queuing from others (Total Annihilation and KKND, respectively)

Arguing that RTS games aren't allowed to use innovations made by another because its lazy is like calling everyone who uses the "bicycle kick" in football, a copycat of Pele.

Can we just stop arguing about this? Trendsetters are only declared AFTER its features have been used extensively by other games, and even then it takes years. So, all of this nonsense is moot until then, so give it a rest.

Yeah,it's too early but from the current state that Blizzard announced in their Q&A batches,it's bad for me.
