Hi would like some advise on whether to go which for the cars mentioned above.

The pros and cons :

Saga
-Spacious
-27k

Viva
-DVVT,EFI
-New model

Other than those mentioned above I could think of any. What would you guys recommend me ? I saw Viva and its not bad. Sort of pretty and the speedometer is bright which attracted me the most.

SO help please. Need to decide fast !

the new Saga only 1.3, if i'm not mistaken. Viva price range is too large, from 660cc to 1.0cc. 44k for a 1.0cc car seems not quite worth, i suggest MyVi just add some $$ more.

Saga 1.3 is not quite fuel efficient i think, when u drive at highway. Viva as well.

well, depends on ur usage actually.

Budget is not more than 30k if preferable as low as possible.

But Im trying to avoid 2nd hand car the best I can.

So, yeah Saga 1.3 and if Viva, it'll be the 850 version.

Anyone could tell me of what is better of both. 1.3 really makes a difference or what. I guess I dont travel through states alot, student here, although Im studying outstation.

So which will be your choice between these 2. Much of difference ?

since ur budget is below 30k, i would suggest u take the Viva coz ur usage is moderate low, less on highway.

i think u must drive around the campus pretty much, so low cc and fuel efficiency is essential here.

if u take the saga, i think u wil regret later coz it wil cost u about RM 60 for over 360KM at average i think. if jam, or bump all over the place, sure it will less.

any other alternative? try comapre the cars u think of suitable to u. 1st is ur usage.

Saga is using a 10-old technology while Viva technology is newer ... EFI, DVVT, ABS, EBD, airbags, power window, power steering, electronic side mirrors, electrically retractable side mirrors ... bla bla

Usage prolly most would be around campus and house and back to hometown, which is 200km away. Guess after I have my car I will be going around much.

Fuel consumption I guess wouldnt differ much between both right ? Provided I drive with a light foot ?

And I prefer manual over auto haha.

Yeah but Im getting 850. SO, airbags, power steering, retractable side mirrors is out of question.

I aint getting premium you know, so cutting off those accessories, which is better ? In terms of comfort and performance.

Obviously, the Saga is more practical in middle-long terms.
Viva = who the hell actually designed that [f]ugly contraption? I wouldn't buy it if it were 20k brand-new.

If you can, stay up for a MyVi, or even better, VW Golf tongue.gif.

Haha yeah. Furthermore, Saga comes with the Vroom Vroom sound. tongue.gif Suits me as a guy.

Yeah thinking of saving fuel of 5k takes a long time and by then, my interest repayment already exceeded that.

Can only afford 30k for now. Still student no money ><

Anyway, RM60 can go 360km already very good what.. Some moer if comparing saga with 650cc viva, i confirm take viva.. Viva is a new engine and we don't know much the pron and cons about the car.. But saga is different.. As we know saga still using 1980an technology carburetor engine, but the engine is long lasting.. For me i still will go for saga for th spacious method..

And if you said wanna get 1.0cc Viva, better go take Myvi instead of Viva.. For me, i'm driving RM27 saga, so far so good.. In term of engine is good, quiet, muffler sound still can tahan.. But the door sound abit fragile.. But after put sound proof, all will be complete..

if u'r a student....space is an important factor. Just imagine all d chics u can carry at one time in saga vs. viva. 4 or 5 maybe vs. 3 only ma:). Furher more...if u wan to do project wif yer gf at rear seat also more comfy in saga smile.gif. Just my 2 cents...

Let's summarize.

1. Price and long term maintenance
Saga is cheaper and spare parts are also cheaper and easier to get. You can save the extra from Viva for better accessories (replacement if the stock is spoilt) and fuel. Viva is still new and spare parts might be hard to obtain.

2. Technology and safety
Saga is inheriting old technology dated back to 1980s without not much of safety feature. It may look solid but god knows what's being used in the body/chassis material. Viva on the other hand is offering DVVT and EFI in the engine plus EBD, ADS and airbags in their premium line. Other Viva features include power window, power steering, electronic side mirrors, electrically retractable side mirrors (some of them only available in premium edition).

3. Space and comfort
Saga is indeed more spacious and bigger than Viva. Perodua promised and quoted the spacious "feel" in Viva. Judge yourself.

4. Appearance
Saga's look might not been changed from its predecessor and Viva looks like mini Avanza which could attract girls. You know what I meant. Colour choices for Viva is better.

5. Performance and quality
Saga's performance is well-known and Proton's QC is also famous. Viva's performance is still questionable since it's still new. We cannot really judge based on the lab results and datasheets.

6. Modifiable and mod-able
Saga is esaier to modified and mod since it's has well established supply chain in the market. Parts might be affordable. Viva is still new on the contrary but what the heck, if you have cash, you can also dress up your Viva.

7. Engine wise and Auto/Manual flavour
Saga is offering more powerful (hope not powderful) engine capacity at 1300cc. Viva engine is using newer technology, less powerful and might feel "underpowered". Saga comes only in Manual flavour but Viva offers both Manual or Auto. Viva is also offering more "models" in term of engine capacity (660, 850 or 1000 cc and standard or premium edition).

8. Branding
Proton is famous of their QC. Proton is not that profitable. Perodua is better in their QC (but still many Perodua car owners doubt that). Perodua sales for last year is better than Proton. Perodua second hand resale value is higher.

9. Current waiting time (as date in May 2007)
Saga has to wait for 3 to 4 months if you place booking now. Viva's waiting period might be shorter than that. They have ready stock of 2000 (on the launching date).

Disclaimer: All the above are personal opinions. Please don't flame me. Any incorrect statements, I apologize in advance. Thank you.

Carb engine is me reliable that those DVVT or what so ever.. Why? Old technology doesn't mean it suck.. And not all new thing is good.. But just imagine la.. 650cc with dvvt, 650cc how to get the performance like 1.3cc?? If the viva using rotary engine like rx-7, then can buy la.. 1. Agree on Saga but still new car is still on warranty so shouldnt be a problem.

2. 850 dont have any safety feature differ from Saga. So, Im in doubt. DVVT and EFI really worth it ?

3. Viva is not bad. More spacious than Kelisa and still bearable for me.

4. Yeah Viva attracts more girls and looks more classy compared to Saga. Im kinda scared of my Saga being belittled in my campus where others drive BMW or Mazda RX-8.

5. What you mean by 'well-known' and QC is famous. Do you really mean it ?
Viva is 1st batch so I dont know. 1st batch more dangerous ?

6. Modifying if possible I dont want to modify much on outlook. Im satisfied with both Saga and Viva.

7. Im planning to get a manual and yeah Saga really promise better performance ?

*
1. Althought new car got warranty, doesn't mean it got spare part de ler.. later got any problem and the spare park out of order, you need wait the stock arrive only can exchange. Just like my Power Windows switch..
2. I can't said that it was worth or not worth.. If not worth, then why so many people order viva already?
4. So what that driving Saga to school? I drive saga to my campus everyday and my campus got alot better and nice car.. But so what? Had more people need to walk to college la.. We got car then is better that those walking to campus..
5. QC suck lor.. 1st batch not more dangerous la.. It just use 1st batch to learn their mistake so can make better in another batch.
6. Saga modified performance to get top performance..
7. Saga can't promise you giving better performance la.. But I can say my car so far so good..

Not no more la.. The SC told me that their are trying to making the Switch more QC.. Cause 100 of LMST, 95 also facing power windows switch problem.. SO now just waiting my turn to claim.. The SC centre that I went got another 9 users of lmst also claim the same switch..

But 1 thing, confirm LMST rear light will masuk air.. This thing cannot avoid..But who care since got warranty? The SC said, if masuk air then go claim another light and before put the light, use silicone stick the join so it won't go in water.. Saga spare part will easily find and they wont stop producing saga spare part.. Imagine lor.. So many iswara users on the road.. They don't wan untung the spare part meh?

sorry to tell u , saga is based on 1983 technology .

viva chassis engineering is better . but the size and the low end one .. i am nt too sure it worth or not . if the low end one looks like kancil 660 , with bare metal inside the car .
then sorry lah .. i dont know which junk to choose already .

No, I'd take Viva definitely. Yes, Saga may be bigger (and with a bigger engine). But interior wise, I dare say Viva will be almost as roomy as a Saga. I've been in both the Saga and Kelisa, and the Saga was roomier but not by much. Viva is a much more recent design thus they managed to improve on the space efficiency.

I do think the full-spec Viva is overpriced. Wayyyy too overpriced, as was the Kelisa Ezi that I used to drive.

I've also driven the Saga (a 1.5 manual) and I have to admit it's more fun than a Kelisa. More power, yes definitely DVVT is no match for that bigger engine.

But practicality wise? I'd take the Viva any day. Even the 660cc is reasonably sporty now. Kancil 660 had a 31-bhp carburated SOHC engine. Viva 660cc has a 45-horsepower DOHC with an 8000RPM redline. Don't believe me? Go check Paultan.org smile.gif . Now, if only the low-end Viva had better interior...

One more big plus for the Viva is fuel efficiency. That's one big advantage the Viva gets from the DVVT.

i will choose saga,
from the performance, 850cc cant fight with saga 1300cc
from the space, no need said
from the price , saga now cheaper
from the fuel comsumption, viva will totally win, for campus drive i think viva can do it with 0.11-0.12, for saga will go for 0.13-0.15, in highway drive, almost the same.............
from the QC, new saga is totally bad, depend your luck. a lot small problem. proton will give you 5 years warranty exclude parts so is useless.
from the appearance, saga exterior design is out.

DVVT, EFI????? no body know the efficiency in viva
but for myvi, its just a name, the advantage unable to show out
thats technology is for petrol consumption effiency, but do you think myvi is good in FC?

the spare parts for saga and wira is really cheap, My kancil 660ex timing belt cost me RM200 while my friend wira 1.5(A) only for RM125
both car changed in same shop and same time

Added on May 19, 2007, 9:59 ambut if you prefer for new saga vroom vrrom sound, it will disappoint you
because new batch saga had changed the exhaust pipe to smaller size,
so no more vrrom vrrom sound.

but the wind sound from the door is a serious problem, if you want to sound proof, i think is expensive unless you DIY

Wrong. VIVA has ABS and EBD and air-bag.(1.0 model) SAGA has none, in terms of prevention of accident, VIVA won already. Shorter breaking distance and anti-brake locks means higher chance of avoiding accident and car spinning.(i'm spinned my old Nissan 130Y before in a near accident.....if there's way to reduce this, i'll take it anyday). The original VIVA (aka Daithasu Mira) has a 3 star rating from ENAP crash test rating.....of course we can't compare like that, but it's a good point for reference. SAGA has been around for 20+ years and Proton has nothing to show for it in terms of safetyness.

Also, no one has done a head-on collision with these 2 cars. Bigger isn't always better. With the milo-tin Saga, i don't think it'll do well with any head-collision. So your statement there is quite unfounded. No offence.

Also, no one has done a head-on collision with these 2 cars. Bigger isn't always better. With the milo-tin Saga, i don't think it'll do well with any head-collision. So your statement there is quite unfounded. No offence.

smile.gif you have misunderstanding, the host said he will only consider 850 model
so it without aigbag ABS. his budget is around 30k only

Thanks for all the feedbacks !

Yeah bear in mind that this is comparison of Saga and 850 Viva which only differs for 7k and not the premium. That is way overpriced.

Yeah I've sat in Viva before and the space is okay for me. Not as cramped as Kelisa. When I sit in my sis's Kelisa cruising highway, I will get headache because of the cramped space. But I dont think Viva will fail me in terms of spaciousness.

But Saga I asked need to wait for 5 months. That'll be crazy because I need the car before I move out of my apartment which is like 1 month away.

850 vs 1.3
almost same passenger cabin space
saga got bigger boot
easy to maintain (pour petrol and go)

so yeah...

at 30k range, what can u expect ?

since u say u travel inter-state, boot space should be taken into consideration....

old tech but still get the job done right ?

Do you remember 20 yrs back when a certain company with the letters E, O, and N made u wait for them and u dun call them, they'll call u when ur car is ready and it took years just to get a saga back in the 80s AND the best thing is they also monopolised the used car market and jacked up the prices so u dun have much choice. 5 yrs warranty useless wan lah, u goto SC after 10k service the expensive labour charges is enough to pay for all the barang barang u claim in the 5 yrs

for savvy, GO TO ITS RESPECTIVE THREAD!!!
btw, new 850cc viva cost rm33k (from website)
new saga cost rm27k
that is 6k diffrence..
this is juz purely my suggestion,
why dont u transplant ur engine to 4G91 EFi DOHC and fully overhaul the engine?
by that time, u can get an EFi engine with Dual Over Head Cam working as new (after full overhaul) and the best thing is u will get 115BHP smile.gif

btw, if im not wrong, viva 850 engine is 3 cylinder only?
and certain model redline at 8k? with max torque (or izzit HP?) at 7200k?
arent that fuel consuming edi provided if u always rev till max torque?

but what u end up is a second hand engine with possibilities that it will fail under 1 year.....

perodua engines are vr revvy engines.... they can easily rev to 8k....
yes, fc is bad if u alwiz rev rev it alot... the fuel consumption figure given in viva brochure only shows its best fc at constant 90kmh....

means, there is possibility that ur future viva might only have 9km/litre.... tongue.gif
