Sometimes Samsung has flash sales on models  that they want to get rid of on EPP account. Bought a QN95B for 6.8K last year. S95B was going for RM7k at one point as well.

Samsung employee discounts? Nah, these are only great for newly released highend Samsung phones and robot vacuum.
*
If you are comparing end of the year sales price with the employee's discount , obviously that isn't going to work very well .
The 40 % discount are given to their employee and and peers in the industry , they can be used on newly launched products . Since they don't do internal adjustment so the RRP is still the same at the end of the year.

This guy below. But he gotta wait 3 months for the TV so its fair I guess lmao. And no confirmation from him yet whether its a new or display unit

12k for A95L is a steal though.... is that a special price for you only?
*
12k is from relatives who distribute electronics , they don't make much from that.

That's what Samsung called " Customer valuation " . Most stocks for the QD OLEDs had ran out , the newly arrived version (both S90C and S95C ) are all using 2nd gen panel so getting a new S90C from Samsung is just like buying a S95C without OCB. I don't think I will want to wait 3 months for that , even a new tv would have depreciated from that value after 3 months .

Yes I am not a fan of the external box either but I like the stand of the S95C better. But then S90C is more affordable though

A95L is too expensive already at the moment even for a 65” 😂
Samsung is really killing it by quantifying brightness…these QD OLEDs new “perceived brightness measurement” will be definitely be a gold standard moving forward for picture quality

Was the mad max movie graded in full rec 2020 ? If yes I am sure the A95L and S90 95C will be able to display it with full glorious mode…

Maybe the orange sprouting fire is already sitting outside DCI P3 dy into rec 2020… if only these TVs come with those gamut checker mark function for movie scenes like Bravia Hx310 that would be superb.. lol
*
Mad Max Fury was graded with rec 2020 colorspace and 10000 nits , it was ahead of its times .

Because of that reason alone , all current commercial TVs have to do tonemapping while playing the movie.

Any direct comparison between TVs isn't going to be as clear cut. The difference could've been the result of different tone mapping approach.

It seems like a lot of ppl have been making the same conclusion based on youtube - " TV A looks brighter / more colorful than B on XX's channel videos ".
Despite the reviewers have repeatedly told the viewers not to use the video as a reference to comparing screens.

You would need a display that is capable of displaying what the movie was capable first.
More saturated colors may not necessarily be visible in front of camera's limited dynamic range as well , it is no human eyes.

I can only speak from what I've seen , the flame just look more orange , more vigorous on the QD-OLEDs.
On the latest G3 , that highlight are very bright too but the flame just doesn't stand out as much and look a little washed out in comparison .

Supposedly these LG flagship wrgb OLEDs will also be getting some kind of color boosting this year , so we will see how that goes.

Yeah now got some units left on Lazada. Already checked with them, they said its brand new sealed. I think the price for a 55 is a steal even though its coming into 1+ years.

I asked them to hold on to delivery cause I will be out of town starting next week till early CNY.
*
I think you are better off with a S90C.

All of the newly restocked S90C units are 2nd gen , I've checked with Samsung MY personally .

( the new stocks of s95c reached MY 2 weeks ago , and s90c just last week. )

But even the 1st gen S90C still pack some improvement here and there.
The difference is not day and night but they are noticeable. The HDR tone mapping has been improved , looking brighter on the 2023 models. The HLG format ( which is widely used by Youtube HDR ) has also been fixed .
Shadow details and dimming algorithm have also been improved.

The most important feature for me is , you can now turn off Dynamic tone mapping on the S90C / S95C , that makes a big difference . Never a fan of the TV dynamic tone mapping features.

All of suddenly my Samsung NU8000 macam just die on Sunday - 4th February before i realised (the smarthing and google home there actually shows offline already since a week ago) whereas my last using was on 27th January 2024.

There is no red standby light and it won't turn on either i press the remote power button and physical button underneath the TV right side.

Try changing the power cords of the TV and differ wall outlet but to no veil.
TV bought during 2018 and out of warranty already.
Any chances to save it before i call technician / dispose?

Man, have enough of Samsung's product already =.=
Basically most of my Samsung products having issue after few years.
*
Assuming You bought it in the same year it was released , so the TV is about 6 years old now .

I am not saying all TV should and will die after 6 years , but if electronic has malfunction after 6 years that's not wholly unreasonable given that it is a mid-range TV.
We are no longer in that era where all electronic should and will last a decade at least .

If you look in the thread of Sony , LG , Panasonic you will find similar complaints as well .

Try to contact their service centers for repair but salvaging spare parts for 6 years old model ain't going to be easy , might be even more pricey than picking up a new one.
Plus edge-lit dimming TV is really old , basically most of the " dimmable " TV out there are at least FALD NOW .

Malaysia seems not having the QN900 series?

A bunch of QN900C are available, 8K TV isn't really mainstream and there are barely anyone who want to own one .

QUOTE
Understand that currently not many sources with 8K but given that I am expecting to use this TV for the next 5 years - should I go for 8K or remain with 4K.

A large percentage of 8k content on the market are made available for VR device , which is a different beast altogether.
In reality , there are scarcely anything made for 8k screens. Most stuff you watch on a 8K TV will be upscaled from 4k. It will not have the same clarity and sharpness of native 8k content.

If we are being honest , 8K TV is not necessary and completely irrelevant unless you are going beyond 77" .
Thanks to the banning of 8K TVs from EU (which is one of the biggest TV audience on earth ) , that has caused a lot of brands to retreat from the 8K market and the development of both content and devices have also been stagnated.

Hello all,

Need a little advice from all of you.

I intend to buy a 65" TV for my living room. I have somewhat shortlisted to 4 models

1. SONY X95L
2. SONY A95L
3. SAMSUNG S95C
4. SAMSUNG QN800C

Any suggestion or should I even consider cheaper alternatives like the TCL 755?

Let me know your thoughts
*
Probably add S90C 77 " to that list as well .
77" S90C (can be bought for RM12K-13K) is the best deal and probably the best overall TV out of the list. It is confirmed to come packing with 2nd generation of QD OLED , which means its picture quality on par with S95C .
On top of that , S90C has 4X full fledge HDMI 2.1 ports unlike the S95C but without the stupid One-Connect Box which has been nothing but disaster .

The lack of Dolby Vision on Samsung TV can be concerning. However given that the only other QD OLED TV , which is the Sony's A95L also had its Dolby Vision mode botched , so you aren't exactly missing anything , at least not among the QD OLEDS.

If you really want to see a brighter and more dynamic HDR , turning on Dynamic tone mapping is but another choice. In my experience , the dynamic tone mapping feature from the last couple of years have improved significantly.

X95L is only available in MY for 85 " and is likely the best LCD from 2023. But it isn't an QD OLED TV , therefore it is always going to be inferior in picture quality. Previously these MINI-LED TV would automatically become the " go-to " TV for bright living spaces . But that rule no longer apply here , the new gen of Quantum Dots OLED are extremely bright and colorful TV , you shouldn't have problem in a lit room.

There''s little reason to even consider QN800C (or any 8K TV) , unless you have an ultra beefy workstation that is capable of 8K output which is pretty much the only reason you will consider buying one.

A95L is technically the best out of the bunch . However it is not perfect either. It has superior picture processing , but still does somethings worse than S90C/S95c. Keep in mind that the Dolby Vision on A95L is also botched , you are better off watching HDR content in normal HDR10 mode. A95L only has 2 x HDMI 2.1 ports , so that is something you want to keep in mind if you plan to connect more than one gaming console to it.

The only reason anyone would go TCL is because of budgets. We know TCL is still basically inferior in mostly everything compare to the "Big 4" . But out of the bunch of chinese brands , TCL is still probably the best and has seen improvement to their LCD every year. TCL is also the last company who remained dedicated to making large LCD screens since the shutting down of Samsung LCD FABs.

Doesnt look good for S95D.... what is samsung thinking using a matte screen doh.gif

*
That is very unfortunate.

I saw it when they revealed the TV during CES , at this point ppl are better sticking with the S90C/S95C.

Matte screen is only working well when you sit very close to the screen , or the dispersion of matte surface light is going to be very distracting .
No matter how much brighter or colorful the screen is , reduced contrast = reduced Dynamic range . Reduced Dynamic range = reduced Picture quality.

As for exactly how bad the scenario is , we will have an answer very soon as the TV is landing after Raya in MY.

Convael, i just placed the order for Calibrite Colorchecker display "plus". The rebranded X-rite colorimeter that can measure up to 2000 nits version. It was on discount on Amazon so I had to get it.  tongue.gif  Not getting the latest gen HL 3000 nits and 10000 nits version cause some reviews mention that there are not sensitive enough for low light luminance.

I want to start with my LG CX first cause I can just utilize the internal pattern generator. So do you think I should just pay for Calman 1 year license or use the HCFR like yours? I did a bit a of research, HCFR is much harder to use and it doesn't have built-in work flow. Please advise.

I understand this is just basic calibration, but if it can improve a bit of black crush, grayscale and tint issue for SDR and HDR , I don't really mind. Nothing is considered "calibrated enough" unless with those Klein K10A or CR100/250....
*
HCFR has steep learning curves but you need to create your own workflow before it is usable for your setup. Since it's open source ( and free ) you can always try it whenever you want.
You can ask for help here there are many big names roaming around they are often willing to offer help in great details .

Calman on the other hand is what most the pros use and can get pricey especially if you try to get those bundles. Xrite devices actually come with a set of ccprofiles which can be used for generic display calibration , so I suggest you try that first because the calman software are quite very expensive unless you are just getting those consumer plans for just 1 specific brand .

Autocal is literally all automated and has improved drastically in the last few years to the point we commonly use Autocal for mass Digital Signage so I think they are more than accurate enough for the general public to tell the difference .
There are some issues for each specific brand of TV we need to iron out to push for the last few % , I know the kinks with Samsung and LG's TVs but not familiar about the other brands .

The updates and support expired after the 1st year but the software should remain usable for many years to come . I haven't repurchase until now and it is still working fine .
Whether if you plan to tinker with your own lookup tables in great details , Calman is pretty much a solid pick since your only other choice is chromapure which has stop updating years ago.

Getting that last 2% isn't going to matter for most ppl but given how elusive competent calibrators are in MY , that is still your best bet unless you plan to spend absurd amount of money ( talking about 5 digits + here ) just to hire the big names.

I went ahead with Calman home for LG. It's a bit expensive but at least it has in built workflow for AutoCAL. I already downloaded the software, SDR and HDR media files from Calman website. Now I am just waiting for my colorimeter to arrive next week.

For SDR calibration types, which one do you use? Lighting LUT, Fixed 9 Point or 3x3 Matrix LUT? Delta formula - DE_ITP? Anymore tips since you also own and calibrated LG OLEDs..

I have read that some ended with greenish tints over grayscale but the calibration delta shows otherwise. There are also people who did lighting LUT and with certain color spikes, then went back and did the fixed 9 point to get good delta average.... I plan to calibrate "cinema" mode only and leave the ISF bright and dark untouch. That way I can compare the dark crush on both default and calibrated.

For HDR calibration, since the panel will max out the peak luminance, will be there an obvious temporary image retention? This part I bit worry  sweat.gif

Yes getting that last 2, 5% or 10% isn't going to matter to most, but for me knowing that I am running the panel as optimized as possible (colors and luminance) and if black crush/grayscale 1D can be slightly improved why not? Yeah those spectrophotometer + high end colorimeter+ murideo pattern generator prices are absurb can buy a few G3s dy..lol
*
For SDR , I usually go with Lighting LUT because thats the fastest and most efficient.
Usually after you are done with the 1D LUT and grayscale calibration , most of the colors should fall right into the spot , only minor adjustment required .

SDR isn't usually a big issue here because as I have measured before , all of the modern day OLED have really good SDR accuracy particularly when compared with LCD .
If you have a very good (sensitive) meter and a room with controlled lightings , you can do fixed points , the more points the more accurate it is . Downside is it will also take longer time to finish and I doubt you would notice the difference unless you are doing massive printing for clients.

For HDR I go with Matrix LUT , just remember to untick the box for 3D LUT grayscale to unity . I have heard of those nasty tinting issues before and I am unsure what they did wrong there , autocal is only going to adjust the display according to the Look Up Table. If something has messed up , they must have done something wrong to trigger it . That or the meter they were using has got problem .

The HDR calibration isn't going to affect your display peak luminance drastically , because it will not overwrite the failsafe. There is always a failsafe for every OLED TV display out there , which can only be disabled in the service menu .
What autocal mostly do is to measure your peak luminance and adjust to a proper tonemapping for your specific tv.

For DeltaE formula I am always going with DE 2000 , which is pretty much the standard for a long while .
We have an issue with ITP as illustrated by Steve Shaw , the creator of Light Illusion here.

Again I have not been following any of its progression and I don't know if it has improved dramatically in the past few year ( which I doubt it has ) .

S95D is not that much brighter than S95C.

The S95C can get up to 1500 nits. Meaning you can also do the same with the much cheaper S90C (2nd gen version) by changing the setting from service menu.
So 1600 nits is barely an improvement.

What the gen3 QD-OLED was really improving is the dark color saturation , the tracking is far more accurate OOTB.

If the sunlight is really distracting from the outside , getting a thicker curtain would a better solution.

Because the matte filter is NOT exactly a solution from direct reflection. AR coating is more efficient than Matte but then it will raise the cost significantly.
Matte surface drastically lower the contrast under normal viewing condition , lower contrast is counterproductive to an OLED TV.

The only situation I would consider a S95D is if your entire room is pitch black , otherwise the raised black level is extremely distracting.
It doesn't look much better than its LCD counterpart like QN95D but with the risk of burn ins.

There are several comparison where the S95C simply look better in a bright room because Samsung previous antiglare was already considered the best in class in the field.

What Samsung did to their 2024 flagship OLED is confusing. When the monitors are trying to move from matte to glossy , they did the exact opposite.

Sorry, somehow this thread didn't pop up in my notice alert for some reason.

Anyway bro, if I spent all my time finding faults in every version release, I don't think I'll be buying anything at all for several years. They'll always be an issue with every model update. S95C had people complaining that it wasn't true 48Gbps, signal drops during gaming due to some HDMI voltage issue in the one connect box etc.; S95B having flickering during gaming, some weird issue I forgot that was luckily fixed after firmware update, and not sure what else. Didn't have the money to get it that time anyway.

I don't need super crazy bright panels as I said, it's like staring in the face of the sun whenever I turn it on so I actually reduced the brightness. sweat.gif

My curtains are yes, blackout curtains, but I can't have total darkness in my living room as I have old folks and there needs to be some light for them to navigate. I can't use those fancy backlight leds or floor lights, as they aren't able to turn it on themselves whenever I'm not around. so they are more comfortable with lamp switches. Thus the matte helps a lot whenever they want to watch their shows in the day or night time.

I don't have the money to constantly keep buying new generations and I've been wanting to get an OLED since S95B, so this present version ticked my boxes, and most importantly, my family is happy with the wow factor after constantly admiring these OLEDs whenever we go shopping.

However, I do appreciate you educating us all these while with your experience and expertise, so keep it up bro. Your reviews and comments are most likely helping others lurking in this thread. notworthy.gif
*
It was a TV box issue , what was insulting is that the S90C , which was cheaper actually is the one that has full 48 GBPS.

Since S95D comes with one connect box , it is likely to be restricted to 40 GBPS. But in reality this isn't a dealbreaker unless you are planning to push 120 fps on a 4k screen via gaming PC .
(Update : just confirmed with a few guys of mine its still 40gbps for S95D )

Anyway I am not degrading your TV , S95D still a fantastic screen so enjoy every penny you've spent on it.

Basically , most of the mid range ( from Q70 ) to high end Samsung TV ( such as the QD OLED and Neo 8K ) come with 4 X HDMI 2.1 ports.

However there is a drawback for specific models that uses One connect box . These models ( such as the S95 series ) is limited to 40 GBPS ( instead of 48 GBPS ) despite being advertised as fully HDMI 2.1 compliant.

I was shopping for a new TV and was informed by salesman that Samsung LED panels are now made in China and are not very durable, but LG still makes their panels in Korea and lasts longer.

Any comments on this? I realize this is Samsung thread, but hope to have unbiased replies...smile.gif

Partially correct , Samsung has shut down their LCD fab for a while now .
Therefore most of their current LCD screens come from TCL. TCL is currently one of biggest LCD manufacturer ( & BOE ).
This shouldn't be a dealbreaker , because Panasonic and Sony too have purchased TV panels from them.

As for LG , a large number of their LCDs are still IPS screens , which have been obsolete for awhile.

LCD TV rarely last more than 5 years thesedays , this is true regardless of brand. What you should be looking for is warranty and after sale services.
It is unfortunate in MY , the salesman remain clueless about TVs , along with the rabid fanbois and snake oil ambassador in this forum.

A quick guide for me please, what is the best model reckon for samsung oled 55" and ballpark cost?

TV use, 95% Netflix, no gaming

Appreciate, if I can get 2-3 top choices reckon from here 🙏🙏 I don't mind older models tho
*
The Best Samsung OLED in 2024 is either S90D or last year's S90C (2nd gen ) , buy whichever model you can find that is cheaper .

They are more affordable and their performance is very close to the flagship S95.
If you have an universal remote you can unlock the TV to close that 1-2% gap ( which is NOT recommended if you want the TV to last longer ).

They are simply the best TV screens you can buy in MY commercially without paying the Sony Tax.

After spending sometime with these QD OLED you will never want to go back to the LG WOLEDs despite better picture processing from the latter.

The lack of Dolby Vision is not an issue in 2024. Theres little need for tonemapping since most recent TV shows and movies are graded at 1000-1500 cd/m2.

From now on if you are aiming for budget levels TV from the big 4, you can get a free upgrade in specs from brands like TCL.
Picture quality isn't exactly a concern.

If the TV is still within warranty period, just call Samsung and they will take care of it.
Otherwise just buy a new one, repairing the screens often cost more than buying a whole new TV.

Tizen 8 update is here for last year's TV, now with One Ui as well

Initial impression.... tbh a bit underwhelmed, there's not much changes to the UI other than some rearrangement

Infact some parts have took a step back imo

- pressing the settings button on the remote no longer brings up the quick settings directly... instead it now brings up a seperate menu and you need to select the setting icon again to bring up the quick settings. A 2 step process now

user posted image

- Exiting an app now eg: youtube will show you the Live TV page instead of the homepage. I not sure if there's a setting somewhere for this, havent checked but I hope there is otherwise this is such a big downgrade... I dont mind the quick settings change above but this one will get annoying pretty quickly (update: false alarm. Quiting an app still brings you back to the homepage. Not sure why it doesn't work yesterday)
*
Unfortunately the update doesn't really do anything other than a bridge for future updates.
The integrated ads are also far more frequent thesedays.

I do however , find the One UI slightly more pleasant to use and to look at maybe because I been using their cellphones for a while.

S90C is last year's model, so I would at least expect hefty discounts .
Obviously I can't speak for everyone since some ppl have better bargaining skills.

If you are aiming for the 65" , 6-8k is a pretty reasonable price. Most second gen S90C have went out of stocks by now.

S90D is the newer model, I have seen it going for below 9K from Kronoshop.
Desahome also offers some pretty steep discount around this time.

Lg qned80 or Samsung Q65D?

Or any better alternative at similar price range. Samsung QN series abit too expensive.

Both are mediocre TVs, only recommended if you are on low budget or just want a screen to watch and don't care about the image quality.
Slightly leaning towards the Samsung's model because it has better contrast.

75"

RM 3729 (Free wall mount)
vs
Samsung QLED QE1D RM 4599

I'm keen towards TCL due to price
Wife wants safer bets as the old Samsung still running after 4yrs

More on watching Youtube and TV box
Any comment on this?

For any mid range and entry level, you are better off with TCL.
Samsung doesn't invest lot of effort into their LCD thesedays. They're lagging behind from the QD OLED or 8K models.

want to upgrade from almost 11 year old 55in samsung f7100...

With that in consideration, for samsung brand, 65 inch size should i get :
1) s90c oled; or
2) qn95c qd miniled

i understand the price difference, i can accept it

S90C is a Quantum Dots OLED TV , pretty much the only type of TV where Quantum Dots yield HUGE benefit , it is significantly better than any Mini-LED TV in terms of visual aspects.
Or if you can find a S90D at similar prices which is just as good.

how much should i worry for oled burn in?

Unless you are ONLY going to watch just 1 specific sport / news channel with a HUGE logo, you also have nothing to worry about.
Most of the people who got Burn-In from OLED are ppl who have bad watchings habits such as :

1) Away from the TV to speak on the phone for 3 hours.

2) unplugging / turning off the power supply for OLED TV screen is off. OLEDs need to work their pixels magic in the background when powered off , you don't turn off the TV completely unless it is for reboot once in awhile.

3) turning AUTO-HDR on every type of content , even for non HDR games / movies. Not only this is entirely pointless, it is actively pushing the TV limits ( HDR demands 100% brightness values from the TV ).

4) Mistakenly bought a used / second hand OLED display that was already being exploited for thousand of hours .

Otherwise for the normal guys who play a variety of content such as streaming , playing different games , the modern OLED are very resilient towards Burn-In. ( I have 9 OLED TVs now , none of them have burn-ins . 3 of them have 12k hours + watched) .

i see....regarding the pointers raised, especially on 2....

how to protect from the occasional lighting surge?

and is it worthwhile to fork out for extended warranty? almost 20% of the price for extra 3 years
*
You can unplug the TV during the thunderstorm. Just don't do it everytime , allows the TV times to finish its business .
Get one of those power surge protector.

As for the warranty , it depends on if it covers dead pixels , burn in and other issues. If it does , 3 years is still a good deal.
If your TV is broke during that 3 extra years and the TV model / sparesparts are obsolete , they may replace your TV entirely with a newer model.
Again though you also want to check if the warranty is covered by the shop , or by the brand. If it is the shop I would say no .
