haha ..ban mod console, that means it is useless if u buy a original games with a md console , still get banned ~!!

heard of some non modded console also being banned , so we are in danger also ?if ms rongly banned , can claim ??
*
Those are without proof, just words. So until it's proven, it's mostly those who flashback to original firmware but still get ban. (probably Microsoft got it on their database all along)

Last time i also act innocent when i get ban, telling MS this & that...doesn't work tongue.gif

According to Xbox-scene some don't play halo 3 beta also get ban.

QUOTE
With the amount of posts we see on our forums ... it's clear, Microsoft decided to start banning Xbox360 with modified firmwares today (both Hitachi-LG and Toshiba-Samsung drives).
While it's the same release date as Halo3 beta, it seems that people who didn't download Halo3 also get banned. They probably detect backup discs (and not the modified firmware) when you play 'em online (not confirmed yet).
Even people using the new firmwares with disc-jitter added get banned, so it looks like Microsoft found another way to detect it.
Just like on Xbox1 it looks like Microsoft bans the console unique ID (serial), not the LIVE user. Microsoft will not allow anyone to login on LIVE on a banned console.

So i guess it's just like Xbox 1, if you play using original you might be able to get away with it (xbox 1 with modchip off)
Also the banning, they ban the console ID, not the Live acc.

I'm modded, can still connect to Live.
I'll put off playing online for the time being, not that I play online on Live most of the time anyway tongue.gif
Oh, and I heard legit consoles were getting banned as well by mistake. GG MS.
*
Those are just words. I used to be like them, acting innocent infront of Microsoft. It doesn't work. MS ran the check on my xbox few times and the code tell the truth.
So after 5-7 times of getting ban and changing my console ID.
I gave up, got myself a new clean unmod xbox. Save the hassle.
*the above are xbox 1 scenario, not xb360.

I bet those are the people who flashback to ori firmware and try to get away with it by bluffing microsoft.
If it's really the case unmod xb360 getting ban, you would have seen youtube video or news all over the place with facts to back it up.

Anyway, you play ori or pirated games? Usually it takes 1 day to get ban. If you play ori i think chances of you surviving this is quite high because xb360 mod now are just firmware mod, not modchip.

use modchip 100% safe probably becos u din touch the firmware..
*
No, last time i use modchip it's not safe at all. You get detect easily, the best is go on steatlh mode/turn off the modchip.
Still, we can't play with pirated copies of game. Must be original game.

So my guess on current banning works by detecting backup games, not firmware. Until we get more update from the scene, it's really hard to tell.

I have some ori games, more pirated though laugh.gif
Even if I get banned, I won't mind that much. Most of the games I play are Single-Player anyway.
*
If like that, why not you be the first to try it since you don't mind losing Live. biggrin.gif
The last game you play is pirated or ori? If pirated...do let us know tomorrow. Usually it takes 12 hours sharp to get ban (if it's like the old time tongue.gif Yes, i count everytime)

That's just an excuse. What's they're really trying to say is... "I am da king here. I want to ban you I ban. You blow ah?"

Look at this statement....
With the advent of Windows LIVE, they're already giving an unfair advantage to PC users. I'm talking specifically about KEYBOARD AND MOUSE usage. The mouse definitely gives FPS players better control. Not to mention hacking and cheating is about a gazillion times easier on a PC. What's worse is that they're allowing PC users to go head on with XBOX users!

No. They are not interested in leveling playing field. They're interested in making money from you.

By the way, I can almost forsee MS selling an "X360 Certified Wireless Mouse and Keyboard" solution for RM400.
*
Actually if you follow the news of the first xb360-pc crossplay game - shadowrun, it's said that they are giving the console advantage by building the game based on the console first. Besides, you are given the option to play with PC players only, Xb360 players only, or both.
(so it's an option for people who wanted to play against each other and you know there are alot of people on the market been arguing about this.)
Either way, i don't think any Pc player would wana subscribe to GOLD just to play with console player at the first place.

Of course Microsoft is all about making money, they are not doing charity laugh.gif We all knew this day would come, it happen for xbox 1 so why not xb360? People are pirating on their console and it makes sense to ban modded console. Banning also cut down cheating on multiplayer (read Halo 2 cheating fiesta)

I wonder if they will ban modded PC's. XD

More realistically...I wonder if they will ban pirated games. One wonders if they can even detect it in the first place...and if they could, would that be a breach of privacy?

I don't suppose the PC player would subscribe to Gold to play with a console player...but its been integrated.
Haven't read about this option anywhere. If its there, what's the point anyway? The whole purpose is integration.
*
Until there are more updates, nobody knows what happen now. Most likely they detect backup games and backup games are what hurt them the most and thus banning them.
Second to that would be cheating, allowing user to install hacks for multiplayer game.
Thirdly, security breach? Don't forget alot of xb360 user got credits card info on their machine...

@Shadowrun : Well, it's an option for people whether they wana play with each other. Just like you want to play with stranger or friends, what game mode you want to play etc etc. Choices.

*
Ok, now you mention it. I think it all make sense now. The ban only applies to backup games going on Live?
So i guess it wasn't really about detecting firmware, it's backup game?

So it will be like the PC market now, wana go online? Buy ori...(actually xbox 1 era also similiar laugh.gif )

For those that don't know why banning is important for everyone of us who enjoy Live :
Xbox Live Bantacular
QUOTE
We are continually fighting the good fight to keep modders and jerks out of the Halo 2 online population (and now Halo 3) but we can all sleep easier at night knowing that the Xbox Live team has their own group of agents working towards the betterment of the online community.

Major Nelson and Gamerscoreblog posted reminders today that people who log onto Live using modified consoles are being dealt with. As more and more people pour into the Halo 3 Beta, please take this warning to heart. Using modified content and hacked boxes is against the Terms of Use for Xbox Live and doing so will result in your console being permanently banned from the service. Forever. For all games.

If you get an error message "Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D" it means you are done playing Xbox Live on that console. Congrats.

To all of the upstanding members of the Live community - we salute you and look forward to fun times throughout the Halo 3 Beta and beyond.

Out of all the online "statistic" now, those who get ban are :
-Playing On Live (multiplayer) with backup games
-old firmware? not too sure.

Hey, no political statement like that. It has got nothing to do with JEWS or any race. No racist remark here.
Sony also keep updating their firmware to combat the psp modders, it's just the company trying to protect their IP. Sooner or later they gona do the same for PS3.

It's been said since the first day modded will be ban so can't blame anyone.

When the day modder roaming free - you see modder 'berlagak' also.

So, lets just keep the discussion back on gaming after this hot topic so no matter which "side" you are on, still can co-exist with each other.

QUOTE(xxboxx @ May 18 2007, 09:44 PM)
what i find funny is why MS didn't just make the console won't boot pirate game? this will make people forced into buying original games. ban by console means people will have to buy new console, means loss of money for MS for every new console bought. and there's a probability that they will buy competitive console instead.
*
There is no perfect security, if they can they would have implement that ages ago but that's impossible. The guy who crack the first xbox was invited to Microsoft office to give a talk as well.

*
Possible, until now nobody can really be safe 'coz nobody know how the ban works and the so-called "faster than microsoft in releasing new firmware". If you are lucky you get ban, i mean not ban tongue.gif
That's one of the reason i gave up modded console after Xbox 1 era, everytime logging Live is like going to war, worry this & that sweat.gif So now i do not need to worry about spring update, fall update or whatnot.
If homebrew scene decided to pick up the pace, i will just get another xb360 to mod.

Lets not be paranoid about this and wait for a while to get a clearer picture. For the time being, I would really advice against anyone spreading the news that Microsoft could ban unmodded consoles.

Was talking to my manager over this during lunch, she says it is possible that we won't be able to 'pasar malam' our old games anymore because we are buying the rights to the game, and not the DVD itself. So Microsoft can technically limit the disc to a single machine - provided that what applies to computer software holds true here as well.

Anyways, I personally think that Crackdown launching with 900 achievements, with the balance available over XBox Live is some sorta experiment, perhaps we will be seeing more and more games released bare bones and needing to be fleshed out via downloads. Provided that Microsoft reduces the price of such titles and d/l, this might be a better way than ban-hammer.
*
That statement is quite true but so far, no company dare to do that for console games yet because it does bring them bad PR. Before this was the rumour of PS3 blu-ray disc having this sorta security and with the intention of bringing down best-buy, walmart, GAME, or whatever second-hand trade in shop. Of course it was deny and nothing but a rumour. Still, it gave Sony such a headache with all the complaint.

So i think not even Micro$oft would wana make enemies with those retail shop/hypermarket. laugh.gif

GOOD POINTS TO PONDER...
THINK ABOUT THIS SCENENARIO...
hmmmmmmm...... flex.gif  flex.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif
*
1. Regarding your point to ponder, the first point is one of the important point!! How can it be "put aside", then come out with all the point that support his point of perspective only? Cleary he is just piss at Microsoft for banning. Wait till you see people flying in the game and shooting unlimited bullet at the rate of 999 bullet per second. Yes, it happens.

2. Of course but those are minority, usually modders would have gotten two xb360 & they can do whatever they want without limiting themselves. It's a no-brainer that if cheating and hacking happens, people need to get ban. Not just console game, any online would have that happen. World of Warcraft is the hottest game right now with massive subscriber, yet Blizzard decide to ban more than 18,000 cheaters and suspended alot of users. Cheaters or not, those are source of income for blizzard but yet, they goto do it because it has to be fair.

3. Again, just to cater to the minority and piss off the larger legitimate userbase? Think of it, how will the legitimate user feel when they pay more to support the game yet pirates just need to pay few bux to play online?
So i find Microsoft way of dealing with modded console are more justify because it doesn't brick your console, it doesn't render your console useless, you just can't play online. How is that gona regulate negative PR is beyond me because since Day 1 people know Microsoft gona ban them but it's just them being "optimistic" that it won't happen.

4. Until we seen real figure, nobody can vouch for its credibility.

5. I don't think that will happen, the most is hiding the identity of modded console, not playing pirated games online. It didn't happen in xbox 1 so i doubt it will happen for xb360.

So here is a point for ponder. Why do you think banning from Xbox Live is bad? Are you being selfish?? Just to allow you to play pirated game online now you want Microsoft to open up the opportunity for every unethic hackers to come up with hacks for games online? How will those who pay alot more for the legitimate copies feel? (probably feel like a tard laugh.gif ) You still can play pirated games on your console, it's fair isn't it? - general statement, not pointing at anyone.

That is not gona happen anytime soon, Microsoft will be fighting alone with all the american hypermarket giant! If that ever hits, we are not the first one to be worried!

That's y.....M$ should launch official Xbox360 in Malaysia as they did in China. They sold the ori game in china market so cheap...bcoz they want to stop those piracy things...y that capitalism M$ cant do this in Malaysia......ooohhh come on 60 SD is not the same as RM50...they pinned us so bad...they should have the strategy on how to tackle the consumer...but yet they failed...enuf with the defect product...wut they did are taking the advantage on us...oh come on just launch it in malaysia and we will have a better consumer rights...they lauched it in all IT/ICT asian countries such as japan, korea, india, singapore and even china....dun we have our cyberjaya which M$ invest where so called their "2nd Silicon Valley" in asian region....sssighhh M$ capitalism at its best...

That's why we need to show Microsoft Malaysia has a market here, if we keep buying pirated games all the way how will that ever happen? They launch in China because everyone want a piece of china now eventhough piracy rate is terrible there now but, you get the point..i am not economist tongue.gif India? I guess India is just part of the important region for Microsoft because lots of IT professional from there.
You can say Microsoft did nothing about this and sometimes we always getting unfair treament but have you ever think Microsoft actually offer us CHEAPER game compare to PS3 (where alot of user here say if this & that happen, i will buy PS3) Xb360 games manufacture in Singapore are way cheaper compare to buying US version?

PC gaming just started to have localize version lately at the price of lower than RM100. That don't come in the blink of an eye, it comes after all those year of "struggling". It started with competitive gaming scene, then alot buy ORI just so they can play online. More and more people do that...company like EA and others started to print Localize version in BM and we got a cheaper ori deal.

If anyone have the rights to complain about expensive games and unfair treatment, Europe should be the first in line because they always get screwed in the ass. Games in UK are selling at £40 per copy!!! That's way too much even for its standard of living. If anyone has the right to pirate games, Europe should do it first.

Most criticisms leveled at the Xbox Live service concern the Xbox Live Marketplace. The service has come under fire from both gamers and the gaming press for charging for downloadable content. In many such cases, users failed to see the value of the content.

Notable incidents include a horse armor download for Oblivion costing $2 and Microsoft charging for a Gears of War map pack that developer Epic wished to give away for free (it will become a free download 4 months later).
Game Informer also said that Microsoft forced other companies to charge for content they wanted to give out for free.

Oh looky here. Something I picked up on the net. Notice the statement in bold:

On May 17, 2007, Microsoft started banning modified firmware consoles. Users with modified firmware will be banned permanently from Xbox Live, says Microsoft. After the first day of mass banning, Microsoft Germany executive Boris Schneider-Johne said: "You can get banned and exact same firmware ban code error if you have a overseas account with non valid address; You paid with a overseas credit card where the address does not agree with the address used in Xbox Live."

Is this true??? Where is the link? If that happens, lots of us will get ban! (so far none of that happen yet)

This is not a discussion about a person life. Everyone is sinful.
Since we are here about gaming, and Xb360.

If you want full service, get the original version. Straight to the point, down to earth.
You pay for what you get & you also do the right thing by helping the local scene abit. It's abit sad coming to UK and my lecturer do knows about the "seriousness" of Malaysia piracy. When i heard malaysia started to have crackdown on pirated goods, i was half-glad/relief because IMO, i do prefer the ori is the mainstream market while pirated market go underground, not the other way round. That way, we also got a better image for our country! In UK piracy exist too but you need to find your way, you can't get it easily like Malaysia do while for original games we need to SEARCH for it!!!

What's so wrong with the console getting ban since it's modded. Just get an ori version and play on Live. You keep the pirated games to yourself, you still can play on Live. Nobody gona care whether you torrent 9999 of the software movies out there because nobody judge you at the first place?
I thought everyone was okay with that, they wana try out game first then only decide to go for full retail version? If that's their intention, what's the big fuzz about the ban now? The only reason people don't wana get ban is because they still wana play pirated version on Live???
I remember since the day modded xb360 is out, everybody knew down the road Modded machine will get ban eventually but they still go for it, some even thought it won't happen. doh.gif Now it happens, why blame Microsoft?? It's just your own fault for having faith in the un-ethic modding scene. Real modders don't support that, real modders only try to unleash the hidden power of the machine, not trying to get things cheap! (waseh..sound so gay tongue.gif )

Talking about hypocrite, i sees alot of people adhere to the belief of hating boasting, show off & arrogance yet they themselves keep boasting about modding or pirated games like :
"i can play this game faster"
"i just need to pay few bux still can play on Live"
"my hardware is superior"
"i can install this & that, lol @ your unmod console" (just when i thought people here always argue with the point they go for console instead of PC because of its simplecity, now they wana make it so complicated?) etc etc.

What's the difference with the hate of "someone" showing with all the product he can purchase in this world etc etc. I see it as the same hypocrite.

I am not against modders because at some point i will also mod my secondary box for homebrew function. The point i want to make is, if everyone just play the game, talk the game. What's there to argue? Nobody will even know yours are modded!

You got pure unmod machine. You buy the game you like.
Kudos to you! Achievement unlock. 50 pts.

You got modded machine & unmod machine. When you see the game you like, you buy ori. Kudos to you!
Achievement unlock. 20 pts.

You got only modded machine. When you see the game you like, you STILL buy ori.
Kudos to you! Achievement unlock. 40 pts.

You got only modded machine. When you see the game you like, you er....nothing.
No Achievement.
Well, no gamerscore only...so? Nobody gona judge you also.

So, can anyone enlighten me what is left to argue about the ban?
