Yes yes... don't flame...

Whatever it is they want to do... mod or not... it's up to them... their business and so is ours...

I have people calling me "stupid" or "dumb a$$" because I don't mod my Playstation 1 and 2 and buy expensive U.S. Version games... I don't mind... just don't get too personal...

No way that's gonna happen. How are we supposed to know if the other party modded his/her console or not.
*
It was in Halo 2 and the guy said he was playing with his friends. That probably means he was playing a friendly organised game and Bungie keeps track of pretty much everything that happens in Halo 2/3. I don't think I can find a link for it cause it's been so long that I read it. Modders in Halo 2 usually go to where they alter some of the data so they can fire faster, stronger, or they can jump damn high.

I don't think playing matchmaking will get you in any trouble but I guess they keep track of your gaming records in organised games somehow. Maybe just Bungie getting commission from MS hmm.gif

You've got some professional England for someone who lives in England whistling.gif

Then you've read it too... I don't mind matchmaking outside Halo but in Halo it's worth deleting accounts from FL.

What are the consequences of Microsoft's crackdown?

With Microsoft using the latest Xbox Live service update to detect kernel mods and unauthorized hard disk upgrades and in turn to ban the player's Xbox 360s based on its console ID, rather than the player's Xbox Live account. With the possibility of players selling their banned 360's on ebay, this presents a big customer relation problem for Microsoft when the new owner can't get on live. Is banning an expensive way to go?

quote:
Steve's Ban Circumvention strategy? (PlayNoEvil would, obviously not do anything so... evil)

So, what is going to happen:

1. Banned player sells banned Xbox 360 on Ebay.

2. New player signs up for the totally cool Xbox Live service that he heard so much about.

3. Gets bounced.

4. Calls Xbox Live Customer Service.

5. What will Microsoft do?

A. Reinstate the machine?
B. Tell the person "tough luck"?
C. Both, at random.

If they reinstate the box, this opens up the lazy circumvention strategy of skipping that whole "sell on eBay" thing and just try to get reinstated.

If they tell the person "tough luck"... Microsoft is going to have an UGLY CUSTOMER RELATIONS PROBLEM (followed by some nasty stories in the news) which should lead back to Answer A.

Even stupider option for Xbox Customer service - tell the naive purchasing person to "fix" their Xbox so that it isnt' hacked anymore.

I tend to argue strongly against banning. It is directly expensive and can have "highly entertaining" unforeseen consequences.

Also, if Microsoft hits "critical mass" with its banning activities, it may encourage the creation of a "guerrilla Xbox Live" that could spur further piracy.

What should Microsoft do?

Since when u can get banned for playing with frenz with modded consoles ni?

Since Halo 2, but I'll explain that

QUOTE(Hamster X @ May 21 2007, 03:53 PM)
I remember I heard in the Halo 2 forums months ago that someone was banned and he said that he hadn't been modding and it was his friends who were modding. Another user replied that you are not allowed to play with modders...

I don't know if this is only for Bungie but if it's true for Halo 2 no doubt it will happen again to someone in Halo 3.

QUOTE(ImSIEBEL @ May 21 2007, 04:31 PM)
since when on earth playing with modders will get u banned..if they kena banned liao how they wan to play with u....unless u play over LAN...

P.S...I Ingat u using mobius account to play ?...he give u the permission to delete ? lol  sweat.gif
*
Don't worry I control my account.

QUOTE(xxboxx @ May 21 2007, 11:59 PM)

My account. I control it.

Let me clear this up as there seems to be a huge misunderstanding. Whoever said playing with modders will get you banned is an idiot. Microsoft has been banning modded consoles since the Xbox days. These bans are targeted at individual consoles which have mods installed. So basically as long as your console is original you're safe. If you do get banned, it's your box and not your Xbox Live account. I got my Xbox banned last time when I accidentally signed on with Modchip active, but as you can see I still retained my I MobiusVyper I account.

The only way you can get banned even though you don't have mods is if you play with a modder who is cheating. So far I think this only applies to Halo 2. Halo 2 has the biggest in-game modder population. These modders use modded versions of the game files to give themselves advantage over the rest. Includes things like super speed, super jump, auto aim, etc. Now if you were playing Halo 2 matchmaking and found out one of your teammates is a modder and he's cheating, you can get banned for cheating even if you dont know the modder and you had no intention to cheat. That's why its always best to quit out if you have a modder on your team. The opposing team won't know that you're not associated with the modder. He'll just assume you are and report you for cheating.

Now in the event that you do get banned, you will only be banned from Halo 2 matchmaking. Your console won't get banned since you have no mods.

I hope that's cleared some things up
