Hi guys, i like this Viofo A129 Duo except for the "stick-it-on-the-windscreen" installation/mounting. Can we do it like the way we install the Xiaomi dashcam with a windscreen holder?
*
There is a suction mount for A119 but not for A129 as the mounting holes are different.

Anyway, this will defeat the purpose of the discreet design of the dashcam.

Bro, thanks for the heads up. So i assumed this A129 doesn't come with the suction cup mount. If i am to install the A129 behind the discreet rear mirror position i wouldn't be able to view the screen of the A129.

Another question -  the screen on the A129 - is there any option/setting to select the display between front camera or rear camera?
*
You can still view the screen. Just angle your head a bit only laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

There is a button on the A129 to switch between PIP, front cam only and back cam only.

Bro, if i am to install A129 with the hard wiring for parking mode (with motion detection recording setting) what will be the impact on my car battery? Will it shortened the lifespan of the car battery significantly? Will it void the warranty if the car is still under manufacturer's warranty period? If there anyway i can have the parking mode without drawing power from the car battery? Also the parking mode does it include motion detection recording on the rear camera as well?
*
Usually, there will be some battery drain if using any dashcam with parking mode. But different dashcam got a different kind of drain whether it is little or a lot.

A car battery will need to know how old is the battery. Older batteries usually can't cope or last long like newer batteries.

Yes, the car manufacturer will say void warranty for whatever mods you do to your car. As long it is not factory installed, void warranty.

Use an external LiFePO4 battery to power the dashcam when the engine is off but this option is mostly Korean dashcams would have and not cheap. The battery will charge when the car is on.

A129 motion detection is not there yet like those on Korean dashcams. Best to use the timelapse parking mode for the time being until Viofo can improve their motion detection mode. Usually for both front and rear cams.

Yeah. If i dont use the ciggie ports in the middle, is kinda wasted.
Now i planning to buy a new A129 for my other car. Still considering whether to purchase directly from Viofo or Sicurez. Sicurez is more expensive by US$25 if compared to Viofo official site but i do not need to worry about warranty. I have claim warranty from Viofo directly before. It was kind of tedious and i have to pay the shipping fee to China. But at least i received back my a119v2 and the Viofo PIC which i communicate with was quite helpful and responsive.
*
Yeah. Have pay for postage to send back to China and all. And the wait to send and receive back the item is another thing.

I claimed before a few times with sellers in China. 2 months wait time laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Anyway, Viofo fixed the price for the distributor here to sell at rm799. Cannot lower due to last time some sellers cut-price like crazy during sales.

But at least Sicurez includes installation when you get from them and the 1 year 1on1 exchange warranty is good.

Anyway City is easy to DIY install. I'm driving City V spec also laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Dear all, may i know what kind of warranty that this dash cam usually has? If not, we can buy from other website which is much cheaper.
*
If you buy direct from Viofo official store, they will provide 1 year warranty but you'll need to ship the A129 back to China to claim warranty. Shipping back and forth might take 2-3 months.

Some online sellers selling cheaper price usually provide no warranty or 6 months warranty only.

There is a distributor for Viofo in Malaysia, Sicurez, they provide 1 year 1-on-1 exchange warranty. But their price is locked as Viofo's guidelines.

Thank you for all the info! But I think the price for the local distributor is way too expensive. sad.gif
*
Local distributor have to follow the price fixed by Viofo. That's why more expensive.

Usually those cheaper price is those from grey importers which is not authorized by Viofo. Usually don't have warranty and not able to claim warranty directly from Viofo.

I think Viofo fixing the price is one thing, but at least local distributor can make it more attractive by providing free installation.
Actually while reading this forum, I made a wrong interpretation of "free installation". Just found out that installation was not free but with RM 100 charges.
But since I already went to the shop, I just paid to install my unit.

There's nothing wrong with the installation charges, but what I'm saying is, if the distributor claim that Viofo force them to sell at RM 799 without any discount, then at least they can provide free installation to compensate for that.

With installation plus memory card 64GB, I paid RM 1k which is a bit expensive IMO
*
Nowadays nothing much is free.

You do know that free installation is usually not free as the cost is already bundled into the total cost?

You can save $ when buy online and DIY install. I think can save rm300+++. But will have to do everything yourself like claim warranty directly with Viofo in Shenzhen, read the manual to learn how to use, etc.

Most of my installations is DIY and micro SD cards is bought from Lazada, Shopee, Aliexpress, etc.

Anyway the above my 2sen only.

I agree with you and I understand, it's too much hassle to DIY moreover I'm not a DIY guy. Also installation incur time cost for distributor as well.

What I'm saying is just that the "fixed price" can't really be an excuse given by distributor that Viofo is very strict that they can't give any discount. Free or cheaper Installation itself can compensate for that.

As I've said I've mistakenly thought the difference was 100++ with free installation but you clearly pointed out the difference could be up to RM 300, then it's a good reference for those who haven't bought to consider this.
*
The fixed priced by Viofo is real eventhough they don't forced their distributor to follow them but the distributors risk losing the distributorship.

I've seen it happened before to Gearbest during Viofo A119 time. Gearbest was selling the A119 super cheap (about rm200+) till Viofo told them to stop and revoked their rights to sell any Viofo dashcams on their site.

Those you see selling very cheap online, they get their stock from 3rd party suppliers which out of Viofo's control so they no need to follow the fixed price set. Those usually have little to no warranty eventhough you contact Viofo directly.

Anyway is a risk to take. Want to save $, buy cheap online. Want warranty, buy from authorized shop.

Hi Blurjoey,

I've already receive my Viofo A129 together with the Parking wiring

can you recommend the method for the parking?

there are two ways for the installation, correct?

1. direct to battery and GND, ACC

2. other method through fuse tapping.

which would you suggest?
*
Fuse tapping will be easier with fusetaps. Same as 1. ACC, Batt and grounding.

Looks like 2019 Viofo A129 uses Novatek NT96670 chipset.

And the new firmware now support High Efficiency Video Coding H.265 HEVC compression.

My chipset is the NT96663 unit. Hopefully it's able to support H.265 as well.

Yes, IR (infrared) cam for internal cabin recording. Great for Grab drivers. Don't have the rear cam.

Waiting for my review unit to arrive soon.

There is another new model, A129 Pro, coming soon also but in the testing stage now.

QUOTE(msa9696 @ Jun 1 2019, 02:48 PM)
As promised my report. It's a very disappointing unit IMO, as I paid 1k, which is still not cheap. I don't mind some issues, but I've great concern when no recording but beep sound not working. This defeats the purpose of dash cam, I could easily missed some critical footage.

I'm not sure how to claim for warranty or repair, because issues happen occasionally, so it's very hard to prove my claim.

Imagine the recent "Abong Botak" case happened, and thought everything recorded but it was not. Or worst, maybe hit someone who breaks red light, causing serious injury or death, but notice it was not recorded, hence unable to prove innocence.

1) Failed to record (once)
- parking mode on with 1fps
- first parked my car, everything recorded
- then drove the car, driving footage all recorded too
- parked at another location, this time the parking footage was not recorded (parking mode still on)
- started engine, then realised recording light was blinking. No beep sound.
- screen was black, unable to turn on screen, pressed all keys (long press, short press etc) but no response from unit at all. Connect wifi to phone, wifi connection successful, but unable to "connect to camera" from the app.
- drove back, reached home, unplug all cables and plug everything again, then it's working again

2) Failed to record (twice)
- parking mode on with 5fps
- parked my car, stop engine, unit turned on with both lights stable (which means recording in parking mode activated)
- after work, start engine and drove back (didn't check the recording)
- when reached home, only realised red light blinking. Checked back recording, both parking and journey home was not recorded.
- no beep sound to indicate that recording was not done during driving
- bought a new memory card, and it happened again, similar scenario

3) Unit hang (twice)
- unit hang, unable to press any button
- then only realise can restart unit, then after restart back to normal
*
Can you to test with the parking mode off and see? Seems like the parking mode causing the issue here.

Also, where did you buy the A129? If you have bought the A129 from Sicurez, you can report to them and they will help you troubleshoot on the issue.

I used to have the same exact issue. Parking mode recording not working only to realized it hangs my camera when I try to download my recording.

What I did was to re-download the firmware and reset default twice. reconfigure again and test for 24 hours. Working ever since.

Cannot guarantee if it works for you but least you could try the solution I did.
*
Should be firmware. Need to check if there is an update firmware or not.

Anyway Viofo A129 parking mode is some what working but not to Korean dashcam level yet but it's getting there.
