Hi guys,
Looking to get a guitar for my (girl)friend, as she's interested to start playing. But what's a good electric guitar to start with, under RM500?
Was wondering if Squier Strats/Teles or Epi LPs can get for that price. Perhaps 2nd hand. If you guys can recommend cheaper, but "okay" sounding (maybe can upgrade pups in the future) brands but generally Strat/Tele/LP shaped guitars, that would be cool.

500 is a tad bit hard for an axe really, most of those at this price range kinda fall apart by itself
not sure if spear/cort has anything around that price

If she is petite, suggest an Ibanez Mikro guitar. Not sure if there's a lot of used Mikros in the market though.

QUOTE(rizdoz04 @ May 15 2018, 10:01 AM) any kind of unbranded guitar will do. rm250 can get. i know guitar empire sells viking guitar for rm300. and nux amp also quite cheap can get only gor rm250 to 350. if u love ur gf overspend abit nevermind la xD oh no no no, get a brand , budget brand is fine, but least a brand ive seen enough of bridge popping out of its sockets, tuners dont work, sharp neckjoint and shit to warn folks about them unless the user knows what htey are getting into, budget bargain bin guitars are quite unreliable

Getting Started
|
For RM500 you need to get a 2nd hand one, look for any Squier/Epiphone.

How about SX and Craftman guitars? Anybody tried them out before? I remember trying an SX when I was younger but don't really remember how it plays.

Craftsmen are good if you buy the traditional strat/tele/lp models. Dont go for those shred, floating trem type or prs copies. Also dont expect the strat trem to work SX can be great but out of the box most of them need some pro setup. Can hung with the big boys though, I still have a SX with me.

Has anybody heard/tried of Nashville guitars?
I have a friend who's willing to let go his Nashville Strat copy for free, it'll definitely need a pro setup but I'm just not sure whether it's worth setting it up?

That's great! Looks like i'll be going that route then. Slightly off topic, but what is the regular price for getting a full setup done? I'm considering whether to send to guitar hospital or john lau haha. Any difference between the 2?

Any difference between the 2? buy a ruler, some screwdrivers and allen key from mr DIY, then go stewmac site learn basic setup is damn easy, and should be done by the guitarist themselves really
