Priest educate me, dear /k/

It is compulsory for Anwar to be pardoned by the King, otherwise even if he naturally completes his sentence he won't be eligible to run for MP, etc, right?

But the Agong also won't simply anyhow pardon for no reason mah.

So how? Will Tun admit to Agong that he actually framed Anwar?

Or will Tun just wayang a bit then announce that Agong don't want to pardon?

Nevermind, Anwar will release from prison very soon even without Royal pardon. Should be within this month.

Without Pardon he will need to wait 5 years before he can become MP.

No such thing as if you were in prison then you can’t be MP anymore. If like that then lks can’t be mp since he was detained under ISA before right? Though how long Anwar must wait before he can contest after he comes out normally I am not sure.

Detained under ISA is different from committing a crime and being jailed for it mah. Constitution says fine rm2000 or jail 1 year then disqualify from being MP, no?

Royal pardon will be hard, relationship between Agong and Tun M is not very well. You can see that during swearing-in ceremony.

Well I guess if he is free from jail as per normal, Constitution doesn't allow him to be MP for 5 years ie he can only contest next election ...

Ya, exactly. Or maybe it is precisely because their relationship is not good, so Agong might be more willing to pardon Anwar if Mahathir promises to step down and let Anwar take over?

Monarch fears people power, having seen how we toppled ruling party, it's to rulers disadvantage to support the cause of people power.

Hard to say though. We probably better not debate too much cos later kena sedition charge, but I guess a certain large proportion of rakyat will still defer to the monarchy no matter what.
