There are a few common issues, but the most expensive ones are below

- Transmission Control Module rosak
Not as widespread as VW mechatronic issue, depends on your mileage and your luck. Ford now have 10 years warranty for this part. If cannot claim warranty, it's a RM4k-5k part from Ford SDAC. Much cheaper if you can find halfcut parts from third party Ford specialists.

- Clutchpack premature wear and tear
7 years warranty for this part. The latest iteration seem to have solve the premature wear & tear issue, but it is still a consumable part like normal manual cars. Outside of warranty, the replacement costs under RM5k at third party Ford specialist.

- Heater hose bocor, causing loss of coolant and engine condemn due to overheat.
change the lower heater hose every 50k-80k km. Request to get it inspected everytime you service the car. This car taught me preventative maintenance, something I now practice on my other car and my family cars.

If you are looking for a car purely for commuting, look for the Japanese. The Fiesta is for people who enjoy driving and willing to put up with it's quirks and the need for attention. I still have my 2012 Fiesta S because it is such a fun car to drive on the weekends, but my daily beater is a simple Proton Persona SV.

Not that you can't daily the Fiesta.....you will need to pay more attention to it and 2012 is a rather old car especially if it doesn't come with maintenance history. If possible, buy from direct owners instead of dealers - this is true for any cars.

Test drive the car thoroughly, observe the transmission's behaviour at low speed acceleration and low speed uphill. Try stopping midway up a hill and accelerate again. If in the aforementioned tests the car jerks like you got rear-ended or judders heavily, walk away.
