Wanted to get an Illegear lappy after watching Hardware Unboxed best AMD laptop review and saw the XMG was on top and found out about Illegear but it seems like there are quite a lot of issues relating to quality.

I also saw the thread locked. Might have to look elsewhere instead. I too wanted to get a RTX30 series laptop. This was what I wanted but with what I have read about Illegear now I have to reconsider as who doesn't want reliability and good service support. Any suggestions of other brands? I have a old ROG with a 860m GPU.. yeah time to upgrade.

the locked thread is indeed a bad move. But Illegear members are not that active too to feedback more info. My Ionic so far running smoothly. Except the colour of the unit which makes the keyboard not very visible, the rest are good for me.

Thanks for the update. Besides some quality issues aside which is a big concern we won't know the numbers of owners have issues to the numbers sold so hard to gauge.

Yeah now with social media plus reddit, it does seems like the forums seems to much more dead than now. I might have to troll the reddit forum. Not sure if want to wait bit longer as I heard the big brands are bringing in around Q2 of this year but prices are hmmm hence Illegear is quite tempting.

I will still go for Illegear for its price and my personal good experiences with their sales and support.
The ONYX V 3060 preorder is tempting but I still want to wait for AMD 5800H first.

Yeah feel like waiting for it but with the pandemic, bit coin bull craze, material and supply chain disruption might make the prices go higher. 1 gen back should be still ok performance I think?

Actually Lenovo can also get very good specs and cheap price. Only disadvantage here is some lead time is more than 8 weeks. But their warranty support should be good. Go to their thread and ask zm fong for his expert opinion.

Lenovo eh? I checked the website and not much options. Where would I look to? Lazada or Shopee?
Good to know the support for you is good and gives me more assurance from owners that support is there. I wonder how Illegear compared to Level51 brand is. Any thoughts on this?

Don't wanna sound like a representative or anything but to the people complaining about service I dont understand why. Among all the companies, this is the only company that i do not need to leave my laptop to diagnose for a week before they start fixing my laptop. I sent in for a screen replacement and told them that I urgently need my laptop so i sent on sunday morning and got my laptop before evening. I made sure they had stock beforehand. Could not do this with MSI last time... Dell different story la they come to your house and replace.

Overall satisfied with the 2019 illegear laptop so far.. i heard prior to first half of 2019 they had 2 major problems. 1 is the battery and second is the SSD was fixed without heatpads on it so it would overheat and spoil. I open up and check mine, it does have the thermal pad and i monitor temps doesnt heats up much.

Good to hear that too. So from now on future shipments of laptops there will be quality improvements I hope.

Im thinking of the Onyx pro due to the magnesium alloy... lighter by 400grams haha

I kinda like big monitors so the Selenite (don't feel like Intel) or Rogue is tempting but with the new proc not out yet here I am not sure if I will pull the trigger on the 4800H instead

My battery on the onyx is also swollen after 2 years of usage. Throughout my 2 illegear laptop purchases (Onyx and Z5) I have went through 3 battery replacements. The cost of replacing the Onyx battery is 395 with 50 ringgit discount. Instead, I went to purchase another battery for 150 on Shopee for a similar battery model which is so far ok. So to those future Onyx buyers, bear in mind of this. smile.gif

Good to know there are other options out there for batteries. Thanks for the info
