Looking to purchase this laptop, but see many problems people are facing tho. Is it safe to gamble and buy this laptop? What are the chances of getting a flawed model. Because this is the model that meets all my needs.

Does anybody's Onyx charges from 99% to 100% after turning on the computer from shut down despite using the laptop plugged in prior to the shutdown and the battery is 100% before shut down?

It also takes about 15-20 minutes to charge that last 1%.
*
Haven't timed mine but I would normally charge the laptop only when the battery is lower than 20%. Charging it from 99% to 100% in my opinion would only deteriorate the battery health faster.

Yeah agreed on the charging part but my problem is my laptop will charge until 100% fine but after I shut down and use the laptop the next time my laptop will still charge from 99% to 100% even though I used my laptop plugged in prior to that. (laptop at 100% when shut down)

At this stage the laptop should be fine, it now ships with a 180W PSU and has had numerous software updates, it's just that some of the early adopters have some issues.

By that you mean that purchasing now should be no problem? Only early buyers have problems right?

Onyx owners, as you know there are 1 USB port on the left side and 2 more ports on the right side, can you try plugging 2 usb sticks or external drives on the right side and see if both are being detected fine?

I tried mine, plugging 2x 32GB stick and only can read 1 and the other kept trying to connect. No problem if plug 1 at each side though.

Not guaranteeing you will not have problems but the system is more stable now on the software side. Hardware is your usual luck

Tried an external HDD and a USB stick on the right side and no problems.

Nevermind, false alarm. It seems it only happened to this 2 sticks, they're 2 identical usb drive. Tried other drives and they're detected fine. blush.gif blush.gif

Happened to me few days ago. Display went black while I was using it. Had to force shutdown by long pressing the power button. Turn it on again and the fan cranked up then windows not responding. Had to force shut down again, restart and it kinda starts ok..

Checked event viewer and there are 12 warnings with this:
The speed of processor (0-11) in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.

Illegear then sent me Oemsev.exe as according to them since I upgraded my power brick to 180w, need to update Oemsev as current bios not fully stable to use with it. So far the issue hasn't recurring.
*
What is that Oemsev?

Another question, does this laptop work with the Opolar Laptop Fan?

Not sure if the vents can fit the Opolar TBH. Personally using Coolermaster coolers and no issues thus far.

Beside the brown switch mechanical keyboard, the slim and light ONYX also gets Core i9 overclock-able processor update!

We need a demo video of the new switches PRONTO!

But yeah, it it really is silent, that sound like a nice upgrade TBH, though you should consider cutting us early adopters a little upgrade discount because we didn't have a choice back then lol... brows.gif

Any updates on pricing for existing users to change to the brown switches?

Do early supporters of the Onyx get a discount? tongue.gif
*
Hi guys, yea we appreciate our early supporters and will definitely offer discounts for the brown switch upgrade kit.

If you like the cap 2 design but don't feel like to spend a lot of money to upgrade the entire brown switch keyboard, we also offer the keycap kit only.

Do send an email to support@illegear.com with your serial number for enquiries smile.gif

Are the vents too wide?
What coolermaster cooler are you using?

I have the X-Lite 2, X-Slim, A200 and the Notepal U2 (with no fans as they broke lol). The A200 is the best of the three as far as airflow is considered, but the X-Lite is a bit better sizewise.

Is there a noticeable decrease in temperatures by using these coolers?
I'm currently only using bottle caps tongue.gif

I'd say a 5c-ish drop in most situations? Maybe even closer to 10c if I get lucky lol.

But of course, don't expect anything drastic lol, you can only force THAT much extra air through the device no matter how you try... and the heatsinks can only displace so much heat.

Thanks for the reply.

I also can have a temperature drop of a few degrees by using bottle caps. I guess most of the temperature reduction comes from actually elevating the laptop higher so that there is better airflow, and there may be diminishing returns from using a cooler compared to bottle caps, but every little bit helps. Or maybe I'm just stingy tongue.gif

Now I disable turbo boost with ThrottleStop and it helps reduce temperatures especially on the CPU, before this I can reach almost 100C on the 8750H with certain games but now I reach mid 80s and low 90 at max.

Yeah I'd say diminishing returns, but it's pretty much the rule once you get past a certain point in anything anyway lol.

As for temps, I've actually never seen my CPU go past 95c even at full stress test temps and with Turbo engaged, for some unknown reason even without the cooler.

Maybe it's just the types of games I play, not sure though, who knows.

Prince J That cap switch offer sounds pretty nice TBH. But I'll probably reserve judgement until the brown switch demo unit is out and available for testing.
