I believe that many China Android box disabled the DRM (Digital Right Management). If you buy this box and say install Netflix, it will only display SD resolution. Somehow not many box will mention if the boxes have the DRM disabled. Some can be set by end user I think.

Many smart TV is not using real Google Android OS thus some apps may not work or not able to go to Google Play at all. Some brands use few other OS thus confused end users. You can refer to the list here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_smart_TV_platforms

*
Mecool is a legit Android TV company with device that has proper Netflix 4K cert tho. Currently there are a number of cheaper proper Android TV devices that can be alternative to Chromecast/Mibox/Shield.

Namely most of Meecol's device, Onn (imported bulk from Walmart US, especially when they were sold at only USD 20 at one time over there) and Skyworth Leap S1.

Astro actually manually blocks their smart tv app from the app store per device models, but some models do slip through the ban list, whcih is why some not well known Android TV model have it listed on the playstore

I just noticed that for countries that takes the Champion's League dedicated channel from Bein (Bein Sports 3) like Malaysia and Singapore, they are not getting the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers. Only countries that don't take the UCL package like Indonesia and Thailand received it.

QUOTE(Iptvfan @ Sep 8 2023, 02:32 PM)
And look at the price. It will be strange if ppl dont feel ripped off by azzterooo (unless u need epl but fhen u can easily get it on sooka and sooka tv is still way cheaper). There will come a time when ppl wake up and realised they have been ripped off for so long. No wonder their subscriber numbers dropping like flies.
*
Well, you need to remember that if you want Unifi TV, you MUST be a Unifi subscriber as well. Both are tied together. Now, not every place has Unifi offered, especially in rural area. Meanwhile you can get Astro as long as you can point a satellite to Measat.
Take me for example. I can get only Unifi through copper (maxed at 30Mbps) at my house, but I can get TIME fibre. So I have the weird setup of having two pay to two ISPs, just because I wanted to keep my Unifi TV as well as needing fast internet.

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Sep 8 2023, 07:55 PM)
Personally astro main selling points is Sports & local contents especially those Malay one...

As everyone knows who is the fastest growing market in Malaysia y-o-y... So better focus on this group & let them get hooked up.... Like drugs... Then hard for them to unsubscribe astro devil.gif
*
As a person that works in a company full of what I would say average Malays, most of them are still not open to the idea of subscribing to a dedicated internet at their house, even after the MCO. They are fine with just using their phone data to do their work, which is the biggest barrier to Unifi TV, since it's tied to having a Unifi account.

The best case scenario is for Unifi TV and Unifi Internet to split, meaning you don't need a Unifi account to be able to get Unifi TV. But since Unifi TV is basically is subsidised with how much we are overpaying TM for internet through Unifi, they won't be made seperate any time soon.

For context, this is how much BEIN is charging if you subscribe it directly from them
So yeah, if you think Astro's is expensive, directly from BEIN is not much better puke.gif

From the looks of it..

It's not any pop up channel

More like permanent dumping ground channel for astro originals...
*
I mean, at this moment not many Malaysian originals have the same budget as the ones produced by Astro. Rather have them than the rinse and recycle 7pm drama from Media Prima

If more people know what unifi tv offer, then more will run there. Epl, if u really need live live, just a matter of time.
*
I mean, people could, but most can't because you need to be a Unifi subscriber to be able to get Unifi TV. If TM would seperate these two, then I am sure majority would move from Astro to Unifi TV.
But since Unifi TV is funded by people overpaying Unifi, that won't happen anytime soon.

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Sep 17 2023, 04:40 PM)
Well..
Those Malaysian content is astro selling point... somehow they forced to budget higher... have better quality.. to capture the majority market... which growing higher y-o-y vs others which getting smaller by the year....

The recycle drama from Media Prima already taken up by those Awesome TV fellow 😄
*
MOre to that, at least these new astro series are quite unique and pushing the limit of what's allowed. In the end, Astro is also just joining the streaming giants club like VIU or Netflix, where it's not just enough with showing pre-made content, but also original ones.

I dont think is true. They need to fight maxis so cannot afford it. I think unifitv is making money by itself
*
I doubt that. If UnifiTV by itself can make money, then it would be better for TM to make UnifiTV seperate from Unifi (the ISP), as then they can target people whose home are not covered by Unifi.

IIRC, the newly launched Ultimate Plus and Ultimate Max by UnifiTV are also tied to your UnifiTV's plan as well, with the user needing to subscribe to at least 100Mbps plan to get Ultimate Plus and 500Mbps to get Unifi Max. I mean, speed wise, if the user is already streaming smoothly with 100Mbps, why are they forced to get a more expensive plan just to get Max?

TM is no saint. They are here to make money. At the end of the day, they are just as greedy as Astro is, but since we are seeing UnifiTV's price as "seperate" from the ISP price, it seems "cheap" at first glance.

Back to Astro, they have launched the first three Asian Games channel.

Wah... Shhhhhh... Don't expose such a big secret here... Later the Astro spies will "find ways to fix this", then this method wouldn't work anymore sad.gif

Btw I tried it in Singapore, it works. 🤭🤭
*
It's not actually a trick. Roaming is has always been you going through the local telco and then routed through Malaysia telco at the end.
But it's usually much more expensive, so it's not like someone who is studying/working outside of the country can use this perpetually.

Old Zaper box also sometimes like this too...

Need to do same thing to "stabilized" the box...

I observe this happen after the last software updates early of the year... looks like astro "send" some bugs into the software updates 🤔🧐
*
I noticed my new UHD decoder rarely has issues if I unplugged the internet. Won't hang for months. But for some reason it won't pull EPG from OTA. So if I want EPG I have to plug in internet for a moment, get the EPG populated, and disconnect again.

Quite a hassle :v

Maybe they want to use njoi to fight unifitv. But useless unifitv focus is bundle premium streaming apps to cenels. Njoi no streaming apps. So is going backward. Yes got ppl watch live tv but pendalaman la. Not the future esp more ppl got bb. So azzteeroo will continue to suffer.
*
My fren in Langat uses njoi because for years TM still won't offer fibre to his area. Not even pendalaman, just fringes of Kampung.

Your friend area nobody want register fibre. Population around your friend area must exceed 70% home user who interest to use Fibre then they'll deploy Fibre to that particular area. As there is cost lay Fibre cable from underground, Fibre port switch also not cheap, maintenance etc. Other factor like vandalism also count into consideration.
*
Deswai no matter if govt says fibre will be more widespread, as long as the company behind it won't lay fibre due to cost, it's just lip service by the govt.

Good job unifi team can take taikorrr azzteroo to war and force them to reduce price. This will hurt but no choice. But so so so good for customers. Should be like this from day one then azzterooo wont be so action for so long.

You see how unifi attack also interesting. After attack their general pack and now force them reduce price, now with sports pack they attacking the sports. Maybe we can really see epl on unifitv soon. Attack azzterroo where they dont expect.
*
I honestly don't believe they would get EPL. Not because Unifi can't afford the price of EPL mind you, but because Unifi themselves seems lacklustre in their in house sports line up. Basically they only have UFC as their only in house license. They rely on SPOTV and BEIN to fill in the gaps for Unifi Sports Channel.

Among other thing, also since Astro is quite close to the grassroot sports scenes and local sports scenes as well (think Malaysian Sepak Takraw League, Purple League, Malaysian Futsal, etc), Astro might *cough*use KBS cable*cough* to make sure EPL license stays with them.

I am bot a sports fan. If I am Prime Minister, I'd close down the related ministry without thinking twice, no more tax spent on sports.

So I really do not understand WHY humans need LIVE sports telecast. Cannot read in news the day after? No after match recording? My must be held hostage by a tv company?
*
Takde feel wei tengok recording. Heck, when SPOTV was delayed for 2 minutes I was already complaining, let along watching something that's already finished hours ago.

Just because you don't have the preference of watching something live, does not mean it's the same for everyone.

Folks, just curious, what's the internet speed you get when you test from Astro Ultra box? My broadband is 300Mbps, but I only get around 20-40Mbps on LAN cable at Ultra box.
Wondering is that norm or something to be rectified, as I will be calling the Astro technician to fix my satellite next week, so will ask him to check on this as well.
*
Test server for astro is limited to around that speed so don't worry

Does other channel works? I changed my Ultrabox from Internet -> Satellite and I successfully can tune in to all the subscribed channels so far.
