Oh, come on Astro! Stop being stingy with the Matrix franchise. Why do Ultrabox movie package users have to pay to watch on 4K with 5.1 audio????

Probably better watch HBO version as the no black bars version. brows.gif

But it's zoomed in on HBO cry.gif

Was actually expecting them to open up the top and bottom.

Mostly, before these "no black bars" version of the film plays, this will appear on the screen:
"The following film has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit this screen."

Also applies to most in-flight entertainment systems. They fitted all the content through "pan and scan" for TV, leaving no space for letter boxes. The weird thing is, the end credits keeps intact.
*
Yup, in some movies they broadcast over TV this message appears.
Not the ones that air on HBO(or HBOGO). I just checked Reloaded and that message doesn't appear at all in the beginning. I'm assuming they just take whatever version that is available and just press the "zoom to fill screen". Though I do notice for the most recent movies from WB they don't do this(ie. The Suicide Squad, Dune, Tenet, Nolan Batman trilogy, WW84).

Bersangka baik;  devoting reduced technical resources.and manpower into post-flood effort. Mesti ramai pelanggan Astro turut terkesan. Juruteknik juga.

If push firmware update and happened to cause box corrupted like the one pushed recently..., how-lah to handle in timely manner.
*
Controversial opinion here. I think it's best they push this to Jan 2022.

I just applied for a new Astro account at  a new location with multi-room. Astro provided me different types of remote control.

The main box, the remote control is the nicer one with Netflix button (left pic).

The multi room ultra box, the remote is the standard one with no Netflix (right pic)

Is this supposed to be the case?

I'm guessing in future you will be able to search using voice commands

I just wonder why it shows both HBO GO and HBO MAX on the slides? HBO MAX will be the replacement for HBO Go right like what they did in other countries or are they planning to offer something which is HBO Go- Lower price and HBO Max- Higher price? Or is it HBO Go will be exclusively for Astro?
*
Probably reserving HBO Go for Ulti customers and MAX for Ultra customers. Gotta make your loyal clients to cough up more money.

Seeing the number of apps listed there shows ASTRO is going after the Android box crowds. And this :

In my opinion, HBO Max is likely to replace HBO Go completely someday. It is just a matter of when only.
As what I know, HBO Max is already available in America and certain European countries. HBO Max is still not available in any Asian countries anyway. So I don't think Astro has much to say about this, as this really depends on HBO side.
Did a bit digging and you are correct. Both are the same thing
https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech...-now-vs-hbo-max

Guess this explains those HBO Max intro logo on series like Doom Patrol.

So HBOMAX Asia in the future then.

UPDATE: Variety: Amit Malhotra Departs WarnerMedia HBO Streaming Role in Southeast Asia.
https://variety.com/2022/global/asia/amit-m...sia-1235146091/

Looks like we have to wait longer for HBOMAX in this region.

Tried watching The Ghost & the Darkness on both HBO GO and Astro on Demand. Good lord it feels as if they took DVD RIP and blew it up the screen. The amount of "snow" makes it distracting to watch.

Is anyone watching Tokyo Vice over HBOGO?
There are some very jarring jumpcuts.

Finally, can use Hotstar app on Ultrabox. Only problem is I can't seem to enable subtitles using the Astro remote.

just use the left right, top down button to select the gears icon on the top right side.
If the show support it, the settings will open and you can select language and also subtitle.
*
Thank you.
After a few tries, it's working now.

Subtitles work and I can see option to display video details similar to Youtube's "stats for nerds".

Guess we have to wait for options to switch between video resolution and stereo/surround sound option.

You don't like it, but Astro themselves is very proud of their advertising feature on Astro Go and On Demand platforms.

Yeah, yeah. I was under the impression it will be limited to the web and astro go app. Wasn't aware they will implement on set top boxes.

That is Netflix issue, Netflix is like 50% lower volume than others channel in any platform and device.

I tested on LG TV, Samsung TV, Nvidia Shield TV Pro, Chromecast with Google TV and also Apple TV 4K box.
*
This test, was it via HDMI ARC/SPDIF/TOSLINK Dolby Digital 5.1 or just standard stereo?

So I decided to purchase a movie from Astro On Demand, "Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal". Enjoyed it.

Then the credits rolled and I noticed one of the sponsors was Disney+. Since I'm subscribed to Disney+ via movie package, I searched on the Disney+ app and was horrified to find it there as well. I blew off RM15.

Morale of the story, if your purchasing any movie via OnDemand always check if it's available on Netflix or Disney+.....if your subscribed to it.
