Can get feedback on MSI GS15 and Aero 15x. Also share hardware reliability and how good and professional their service support.

Not looking at ASUS from the many feedback here on support. Trying to move away from Alienware as their support is not what it used to be. Dell outsource so many things (repairs, spare parts) that its getting unpleasant, unless locally Dell is still better than the other vendors?

Thanks.

Cooling: GS65 is slightly better. Both runs hot due to thin profile
Build quality: Aero 15X, though it's not the best out there. GS65 has too much flex.
Battery life: Aero 15X

Wait for proper review of GS65

I had a first try on the GS65 due to my work, as for the thermal it's surprising good. Tried so many MaxQ design and previous MSI GS series, the 65 cooling is definitely good and the battery life is very long lasting.

I will write a review here soon once i got the time

Careful, the new Aero15X KBB chatters (repeat keys) just as the old one did.

If you're okay with that then no problem though.

And the GS65 is freaking made out of paper. Really. It flexes enough to worry me about bending, and we're talking about the chassis here, not even the lid.

But the GS65 as a package is still a class act of design though. It's absolutely beautiful, build strength notwithstanding.

Honestly ler bro, if I sit on the laptop (hell any metal body laptop) I think sure bend edi here and there, and I'm not even 200kg.

But of course nobody sits on a laptop on purpose ler.

Just saying it feels flexible enough for me to worry about bending, specifically referring to bending the metal skin panels rather than the laptop itself... especially the part over the keyboard (around the power button) and the screen lid.

Point of comparison for rigidity, Macbooks. And yeah, it's a fair comparison considering the GS65 units cost almost as much.

What about local support from either Gigabyte or MSI? If its anything like what we hear about ASUS its a negative.

Also are Gigabyte or MSI gaming laptops known to be reliable. Do they last if used a lot at near max performance? With expected proper handling and care of course, not abuse the machine.

MSI has "proper" local support as they have an actual local presence here... although I can say that while their after service is definitely better than Asus, it's not up to Dell levels.

Gigabyte, unfortunately doesn't even have a local presence. Yeah you can get a unit shipped over here through middlemen or otherwise, but you'll have to deal with these folks (or Gigabyte direct including overseas shipping costs) for warranty claims.

For reliability, I suggest you Google the Owner's Threads for both (they're up at the NotebookReview forums) and read up on the users experiences themselves, considering we've got actual folks with their GS65s and Aero15X V8s already over there... but I can say that from what I've seen (and personally experienced), MSIs tend to run a bit hot but are otherwise reliable.

Zero experience on Gigabyte though, so you better go scour that Owner's Thread.

i7 / 1060 / 7k-ish.

144hz also what use if my games can barely do 50-60fps @ Ultra? I don't play "competitive" games and the Onyx doesn't have (internal) Gsync either. So in the end I'll pay more and set the screen back to 60hz anyway lol.

Also, I usually game on external monitors/TV to begin with.

Besides, I got a decently good panel so I can't complain. Minimal bleed and good colours to my eyes.

Nah it gets only a bit warm as more hot air goes out the back vents. Besides, I have the laptop on a stand so my mouse hand doesn't get hit by much of the exhaust pun... devil.gif

And yes, no TB3. Sure, no future expansion possibilities bla bla, but I reckon I'm not gonna be able to justify buying an eGPU setup EVER, so eh, why bother. You're gonna end up paying 1080 prices for 1070 performance at best with the added cost of the enclosure anyway.

Buuuut, yeah, no TB3.

Maybe in a few more Intel Gens once Intel starts putting the controller on-processor.

As for the battery, of course 12 months (which is exactly as long as MSI does it according to the terms here: https://my.msi.com/page/warranty, as per industry standard).

But enough about the Onyx, the TS is asking about the GS65 and the Aero bro. We OT here edi, so let's get back to those two laptops.
