Hi all, want to get a new machine for 3D animation.

Can anyone tell me what I should get?

Is 128GB RAM really the minimum?
Do I need 1TB SDD + 4TB HDD?

These two above are some suggestion from my friend,
but I feel like it's so crazy though.

What 3D animation software are you planning to use?

16GB-32GB Ram is good enough already, You can setup SSD as boot drive and 1TB HDD as a storage.

Mainly Lumion, Autocad, 3Ds Max, Maya, autodesk matchmover

32GB RAM is sufficient.

Depending on your workflow:
- if using CUDA, then pick highest end consumer card, dont go for quadro
- if bruteforce or CPU intensive, either i9 or Thrreadripper is good

The one you really need to concern is your graphic card, get a decent one. replacing a graphic card is pricey. SSD, get it only if you can afford. For Ram I've heard that some high end rendering studio get their desktop to 64GB ram, so if you're not heavy user, or not that "professional" yet my advice is get 16GB will do.

My current spec is GTX1070, 16gb ram, running smooths when I'm using Autodesk Maya, photoshop, google chrome, playing some online games at the same time, i have ssd but its a small one.
