i just received a letter from LHDN just now.

Letter subject: PEMBERITAHUAN PENANGGUHAN BAYARAN BALIK CUKAI PENDAPATAN

Sekian, terima kasih"

Anyone received such kind of letter from LHDN before?
So, should i go to LHDN to clarify stuff / amend the amount

You don't need to do anything from your end. It is most likely that the officer will contact you to obtain some documents related to the reliefs you have filed. So, be prepared for that.

Most probably they would NOT contact you after 3 months....
it is best that you contact them.....bring along the past years submitted tax returns + receipts / documents to relates them to the tax rebates/tax relieves that you had submitted to claims when declaring tax returns over the past years....
no worry, they are professional and friendly...they just wanted to see proofs.

there was once a forummer mentioned that he had to see them just to "correct" the individual or combined status. doh.gif

Depending on how much is the refund, sometimes I'll just ignore it.

Its not worth the effort to take a day off and go see them, and they will ask for XYZ again.

I agree as well, with today's available technology, they can have tax payers to voluntarily scan the receipts/proofs that you wish to claim for deductions eg lifestyle, medical, education etc and submit together with e-filing. Those who voluntarily do so will not kena audit unless there are doubts about the authenticity of the receipts/proofs.

Then of course for those who does not have easy access to a scanner can still do it the normal way, but subject to random audit from time to time.

Over time this can encourage people to do their tax filing as accurate as possible.

Plus nowadays a lot of receipts fade after a few months.... especially those printed on smooth paper, the kind you get from atm machine.

Worst case..

They will dig the old and past tax claim made by you.
Be prepared with all your documents and receipt at least for the past 6 years..

if their aim is to ensure taypayers compliance, i believe this is the way to go.

unless their aim is to 'catch' those who do false submission and those who doesn't keep a good record of their receipts and proofs for the past 7 years, and then penalty them 99.
