In ur experience, which broadband service provider within the PJ area has the best latency for WoW? Please include name of service provider with the appropriate links ie. website and email or phone contact.
Also, please include your latency during normal playing hours.
Mon - Fri (after 6pm till late) Sat - Sun (morning, noon, evening, night)
Thanks.

heh, i'm just thinking, best usually implies the biggest number. so best latency may mean the biggest lag. O.o

None, Malaysian ISPs are messed up beyond measure.
Unless you get lucky and get a good IP for Streamyx, then you'll get good latency.

Currently for the vast majority of mmorpg players, there is no choice other than TMnet Streamyx as they have the widest coverage.
Maxis may eventually supercede them but their current broadband is chopped at a measly 3Gb/month (hell, I can use up that allocation in 2 days) and coverage isnt as wide as TMNet.
So for most of us, its either Streamyx or find something else to do with your time.

Depends on ur location if where you staying is inside the coverage area. If you dont like tmnut, try Jaring...or can't , you can decide to try wimax, digi?

I have emailed metrofon to ask them whether my apt is covered but still no reply. I heard from a friend that they provide very stable and reliable ping when he's playing WoW. But then, he's using PenangFon so there might be some difference to MetroFon.
Quaza, is it possible to tinker with WinXP settings such as MaxMTU and such to achieve better ping results? I don't feel like buying a new OS just to play WoW... And everyday in office I'm using Vista. Pretty sick of it.

Why no one ever wanna give Jaring a try? I've been promoting them in this forums on almost every laggy threat. I've been using it for about a year now? My ping is always 300+ to 430. Rarely will see it go beyond that. And if theres any problem usually its fixed the next day itself, and their customer service is smart and effecient, gets problem solved. Sometimes kinda lazy to keep repeating this, just give it a try.

only reason i don't promote jaring is that only dialup are available in sarawak. ISDN is too expensive.

well, waiting another 1-2 more years for that other WiFi service to be up. 2 of the towers have been up for awhile now, near my areas and a lot more are popping up all around kuching for the past 12 months. haven't tried accessing the service yet. waiting for more news about it.

Reis, which package are you using? If I want to subscribe to the wired package, do I need a pre-existing telephone line that is in service? I have a phone line at home but that line is currently terminated.

I'm using the wired one, RM79 per month. You will be needing an active phone line to be able to use the services tho. Were you using Streamyx before?

QUOTE(Reis @ May 16 2007, 09:23 AM) yep. first time i heard about it, was in april last year. the proposal was to have the entire town of miri and offshore completely wireless. the target customers wasn't the miri community but for the oil & gas companies to communicated between onshore and offshore. then when chief minister made the announcement earlier this year, seemed very different. hope that they can pull it off. very sick and tired of streamyx and i think their technicians are tired of my phonecalls too.

Haha Myremi, I tottaly understand about the phone calls made to Streamyx. I was the first batch of users to suscribe to Streamyx and thus gotten the dreaded port 1 which is 219.95. Called them up every single day and none of them dint make me yell at them, and so they already knew who I am lol. But look now, its already been like 3-4 years? That issue has not been resolved yet! They gave me too many retarded solutions, change PC, format PC, change modem, change router, the last one asked me to call a contractor to remake my telephone line. That was the last straw really and I cancelled my Streamyx within the week. Now I'm happy with Jaring.
About Wimax, it seems pretty promising, I saw in the papers they are targetting KL too, hope it will give a good competition to other ISPs. Without competition there wont be good services.

As long as I can avoid using the phone system, will be happen. looking at the phone line outside my house, it's a big mess.
The streamyx service in Kuching isn't too bad. It's the KL call center that I hate. So far, the Kuching service folks are always making housecalls. Well, to my house many times now. My granny has to supervise them tinkering on my pc. >.>
The lag is still bad. Thing is, browsing has improved a lot over the years. It's the WoW tracerts that are showing it's some AT&T gateway in US that is making the bottleneck. All the Malaysian IP (if that's the correct term to use), is showing less than 100 ms lag. Only when it hits that AT&T server, that's when the lag starts.
