hey hey, anymore people going to UMP? i'm gonna be studying computer science there.
my question is, will they open up the hostel earlier (before the registration date), or do i have to stay in a hotel till then?

hi there, i can tell u, orientation is gonna b a hardship to go through..  thumbup.gif
we r now in ump for the orientation week preparation..
hope to see u guyz soon...

all the best..!

That sounds bad... I'm not exactly the most physically fit type of person tongue.gif

QUOTE(HeHeHunter @ Jun 20 2009, 08:54 PM)
Then the whole course would be 9k plus... or maybe more? Can anyone clarify?
Yes, it's already more expensive than SEGi because my tuition fees are 100% covered.
*
You might also want to consider living costs (hostel fees/rent, streamyx bill, food, etc) if you were to study at SEGi college. Living at KL or subang jaya can be pricey (a really modest lifestyle needs about +/- RM 500 permonth while rental can would be RM 200 - 400 i'm guessing) but I must admit it is fun to be connected to so many shopping malls!
Another factor to consider is the dominant medium of language for everyday communication. Though like tuckchai88 said, if you carry yourself well, it shoudn't be a problem.

QUOTE(tuckchai88 @ Jun 21 2009, 04:41 AM)
there is no kitchen in an hostel room or house. they don allow us to cook food but sometimes rules are mend to be broken.
u can buy multi purpose cooker for cooking or share $$ to buy that cooker la. cook inside the room.
but don cook til too over la. or u can buy frm the cafe food. remember, there is no chinese food in ump. all malays food!
if u wan chinese food, u need go to gambang tapao. it is just 5minutes drive.
I can smell the santan already. They have good nasi lemak + rendang?

More questions for you seniors, thanks for all your help:
i. what are the living costs in UMP?
ii. favourite past times of the students?
iii. is it safe to keep laptop/pc in the hostel during orientation week?
iv. honestly- what is the crime rate there?
v. the closest supermarket with fresh groceries is?
vi. got pasar malam? biggrin.gif

which banks have branches in kuantan town?

i don't mind cleaning the toilet, as long as my roommates pitch in too. dunno which one is worse: messy roommie or finnicky one?

kk3 is open to girls right? how many people would be staying in one apartment? i got confused reading the back few pages... is it 4 people in a room or 4 people in an apartment? how many rooms does the apartment have? what in the world does kk2 / kk3 look like? @_@

and, how would a freshie normally get assigned to a hostel room? is it possible for us to choose?

ack... sorry for bombarding you guys with so many questions...

haha, having some difficulty shopping for suitable clothes... how often do the students follow the dress code there? i know you are all men, but from your observations, what do the female students usually wear? besides baju kurung, that is.

collar shirt - are you referring to polo shirts or formal/ office wear?
short sleeves - acceptable is campus? how short is too short?

the part i'm concerned about is that they say the top garment should cover the butt... the students really follow this?

at this rate, this thread can make a new student-handbook blush.gif

yes, i mean POLO T shirts for normal class and office wear durin presentation.. short sleeve is acceptable but it doesnt look nice when u present. it will b better if u wear long sleeves office wear.

cover butt? that just a reminder only la. they dont really care bout it, our uni is not that strict and they wont simply kompaun u. for safety, buy bigger clothes loh and u can use it for the total of 4years. haha.. students dont really follow the dress code in uni, new students will follow for few months, after that they will start wearin sandals to class for guys, wear jeans, n bla bla..

haha.. i think u all dint get the student book. lastime we got but it totally dint help a lot. the info they provide is so so little.

i wan remind u that, there is NO CHINESE FOOD in uni. hope u can suit ur self wit malay food 3meals a day.
short-sleeved polo T-shirts for classes, then. good, UMP isn't very strict...
we downloaded all the info from the UMP website, including offer letter and panduan pelajar thing. anyway, it's not much info.
malay food is no problem for me... in fact i have a hard time keeping away from it. plus i already bought enough dry food to open my own sundry shop, heh.

i think that should be about it... thank you for all the help! rclxms.gif

tracy, so how was everythin? does tis thread help u? lol..
weekend in ump is boring.. ntg to do.
*
actually, it's been really helpful! especially the collared shirt advice. i did have some problem with the sluggish net connection, but the cable helps.
would it be advisable to get a separate (private) internet line? cause i really am a youtube addict.

yaya.. c10 so u can peep girls..!
so near to cafe n class..
*
i can also peep on the guys, which i did, accidentally. my suggestion would be to wear a shirt outside your room eventhough you're not outside of the block biggrin.gif

i haven't gotten into the msn hype yet. it's kinda troublesome, since i gotta lock up my laptop all the time.

and it's not my fault the dorm blocks don't have pintu besar... everything is so open...

u mean ur room door spoiled? go complain at the hostel office or on ecom.
careful wit ur laptop, alwiz keep in safe place when u don trust ur surrounding ppl. lol..
*
what i meant by the pintu besar is that... the guys' block doesn't have that door in the front of the hostel (but strangely, the back of the block has!) so whether or not the guys in C9 are dressed decently or not when they come out of their room, it's all visible from the payung putih. it ain't exactly a pretty sight.

i'm worried that maybe my roommates and i might forget to lock the door / someone breaks in, at least locking up my lappie in the wardrobe provides a little extra protection. but it's really troublesome to always lock it in and take it out later, malaslah.

i already tertinggal my keys once. and i even got someone to cut the wardrobe lock because i thought they were in there (but actually they weren't, really *swt*). so separating the keys is a must!

hehe, good thing we have a pasar malam here in ump. now only have to figure out how to go to the pasar malam outside...

is the briged siswa subject difficult? can elaborate about the camping and the fitness test parts?

yep, heard rumour that ministry of health is drafting some memo to close down all the public unis. even without that, all the classes and activities are still being canceled... very tension, since nothing is getting done.

i got moved from Gf to 4f cause of this h1n1 business, all i can say is the internet line here is GOOD. i'm hoping that they'll let us stay here for the rest of the sem. for the blocked pages... i just go to block X lab (since i am under fskkp anyway) to access... so far so good.

anyone bought tickets to go back for raya yet?

i already bought the ticket too, for the 12th. prefer to go back in the morning.

i'm in the so-called quarantined C4 block. maybe it's cause we don't have much people in this block?
