CODE @Jayi @clon12 Little advice needed here, my parents insist that I should get myself a laptop when I enter the campus. However, after going through the syllabus for all 3 years of Diploma in CE, I found out that there might be(just guessing)usage of 3d modeling software during our semester. So, here's the catch, do I need to get a laptop or just bring my rendering pc there( about the same specs as of Jayi's rig )? |

QUOTE(clon12 @ May 29 2013, 04:58 PM) I would say bringing in and bringing out (when going back to kampung) will be a hassle to you and your family. You will probably need your laptop for presentations which requires you to bring along your own laptop so it is advisable to get one. In fact, get a good one. 2D 3D drawing programs like AutoCAD and SolidWorks will require the extra processing power. Hmm...That rig is gonna be 3 years old No harm done getting a laptop (suggesting that you have no financial problem) |

QUOTE(clon12 @ May 30 2013, 08:28 AM) I'm not the master of tech but I recommend getting i7 instead. Like I said, the extra processing power will do good when you deal with CAD. And also get a good gaming laptop. I must say, you're right about getting an I7 since AutoCAD benefits from hyper-threading instead the shear number of cores Perhaps Jayi has better recommendation on getting which laptop. I think I'll stick with my pc since getting a gaming laptop is just extra paper weight for me. Btw, do you by any chance know anyone that applies direct entry into UMP (eg. Diploma programs) ? |

QUOTE(clon12 @ May 30 2013, 11:12 PM) Thats up to you As a matter of fact, I do. Since UPU offered me with diploma in civil engineering at UMP.Nope, not any from Civil I would say. We are not so close with gambang seniors (I know only a handful amount because they are our helpful facilitator during our HSK and MINDS). You intend to continue in UMP? |

QUOTE(clon12 @ May 31 2013, 08:21 AM) Very well then. Hmm, that's kinda great news. So, I would be joining seniors of SPM 2010 leavers if I perform well and skip to year 2 of my degree... Here's the catch, since I might not be able to apply for UPU, does it mean that I'm unable to apply for credit transfer if I wish to further my studies at other institutions eg. UTM, UPM, USM ?This year they released a new system whereby final year diplomas can get a direct entry right after you finished the internship. So while others are waiting for UPU and enroll in Sept (degree), you are already studying your degree syllabus in February. But if I'm not mistaken you are not allowed to do another UPU application if you chose this. Not very sure with this but its written in the announcement that way. We are seeing how our seniors deal with this first since they are the first batch. |

QUOTE(Jayi @ Jun 1 2013, 12:14 PM) First of all, nice rig you got there but just an advice, HAF 922 with those hardwares in it is way too bulky and heavy to carry around. Getting a laptop is really recommended as already explained by Clon. 3 years old but its still running strong, so no worries Lenovo are very well known for best bang for buck but I more keen towards the aftersales warranty service, hence i went to Dell with their top notch warranty services Avoid low end laptops with i3 if you one of the speed demons like me I not sure hows the gap between i3 and i5 during autocad and solidworks, since i'm using i7 all the time But I can tell you that theres a very huge difference when rendering videos. yep gaming laptops are not tat weight friendly i did not bring my desktop to ump though, i left it at hometown for my brother I'm more of a best bang for the buck kinda guy but I'll take a look at the one's from Dell. I'm a speed demon too Since I'm going to have a short semester as Sem 0, I'll be holding myself back from any laptop but talking about weight issues, do you think an ultrabook is enough for documents, presentation ect? |

QUOTE(Jayi @ Jun 1 2013, 12:52 PM) But Storm scout 2 is still a mid tower, portability still couldnt compare to those ITX case which just sized like a box Changing to an ITX case means that I'll have to get some new hardware, kinda reluctant to do so though yes of coz, ultrabook is way powerful to do those thing, but the down part is ultrabook doesnt come cheap. you dont really require to bring laptop all the times walking around uni / to class. just about once a while Sem 0 is kind of giving freshies some time to get used with the uni environment, which only 4 credit hours if i not mistaken. thus u'll have plenty of free time after the class, spend it And, thanks for the tip, I'll be spending sem 0 as wisely as possible This post has been edited by O.CModderz: Jun 1 2013, 01:14 PM |
