there is flight frm penang to kuatan but u need to check it from the airlines.
u r not allowed to stay earlier but u can alwiz book a hotel or budget hotel to stay when u reach kuantan. kuantan to ump just 30minutes oni. if u wan ask anythin, u may ask. we r here to help u.

now there are new campus for ur EE and Mechanical Engineering where u will have ur Core subjects at Pekan and normal subjects at Gambang campus. Pekan is new campus where there is no hostel yet so u will still stay at gambang temporary. if u wan to know more, look back few pages u may find few informations.

the uni will provide u transport go and back frm pekan and to pekan.
so dat is not a matter, the prob is it will b a waste of time and wil b tired.
but ntg can b change cos akan dilaksanakan comin sem. but ump is a good place and nice environment.

durin tis times and orientation week, u will like blur blur and worry but trust me, after 2 or 3 weeks u will b fine and everythin will b settle. tis time intake ump takin 2300 students where it is a massive intake cos last intake was around 1300 students oni. i realise many ppl just join tis forum today to ask questions. haha..

Added on June 21, 2009, 4:45 amthere is no kitchen in an hostel room or house. they don allow us to cook food but sometimes rules are mend to be broken.
u can buy multi purpose cooker for cooking or share $$ to buy that cooker la. cook inside the room.
but don cook til too over la. or u can buy frm the cafe food. remember, there is no chinese food in ump. all malays food!
if u wan chinese food, u need go to gambang tapao. it is just 5minutes drive.

but there are also a lot of students frm sabah and sarawak. if u think u can survive in the malays community, how bout me?
in my class, i m the only chinese guy and 5more chinese girls and 1 indian guy and 2 indian girls. the rest is bumi n malays.
ntg is possible, it depends how u communicate and how u bring urself wit ur friends. they are friendly and nice to mix wit.
even we frm different races, i alwiz play futsal wit my coursemates that are malays.

2. Mostly in ENGLISH but sometimes rojak.

3. Lecturers in the uni is friendly and alwiz helpful. they will try give u the highest as they can give.

4. No students frm ump allowed to stay outside and it is UMP POLICY. unless u r married.

how much SEGI fees for whole course? if u get good result for stpm or spm, y don u try get sponsor or scholarship?
local uni is much cheaper compare to private and the hostels are cheap. one sem around rm500 oni included water, electric and wireless.

The answer is.. it depends la. but it wont run so far away frm my answer.
1. erm. for me the living cost is not so high. let say, 1day rm 10 is enough for foods and drink. lunch rm 4, dinner rm4 and mayb water rm 2 for lunch and dinner. so 1 month is rm 350 - rm 400 included u eat those snacks or sometimes call more food. personnely, i m not so ON or like to go movies, bowling, shopping (outing). btw, in kuantan the entertainment will b very less. so it save a lot of $$. so total living costs less rm500?

2. past times? guy like me when free will play computer games such as COUNTER STRIKE, DOTA and many more using LAN. students also watch movies in their external hardisk or drama. so if can, just bring as much movie as u can so u can watch durin free time. besides that, if u r active students, u can play sports such as tennis, basketball, futsal, netball, volleyball, ping pong n badminton every evening.

3. durin orrientation week, u will hardly online or have time in ur room. u will alwiz either in the hall to hear talks and bla bla.. but it would b better if u bring laptop lock and a lock to look in ur cupboard. normally 1st week not many ppl will buy laptop or bring laptop. u can bring pc too cos u can on9 24/7.

4. i m proud of the crime rate in the ump, even at 9 u walk in the middle of road or somewhere there is dark, u don have to worry.. ntg to worry cos no ppl will snatch ur handbag or PAO u. it is very very low crime rate. but the low low crime such as u will lost ur nice shoes, laptop or money if u dint take care nicely. a lot of students dont lock their bicycle cos no ppl will steal it. that is our tradition where ppl dont lock their bike when attend class.

5. there is no supermarket around ump. but there is some kedai sell groceries at Gambang (5minutes drive frm ump). if u wan go kuantan, u can find CARREFOUR, giant, n bla bla bla.. but i take 30minutes drive frm ump.

6. yes, there is a pasar malam near ump. if u drive, it takes 5minutes, if u cycle it takes 10 minutes, if u walk it take half hour. hehe.. it is on THURSDAY night.

Tis all is based on my opinion. so i might not b so accurate. anythin more?

1sem rm 500? dat is gila budget.. very tight la!
one day i eat rm 10 cos i tall and big size. and i like to eat..
canteen food alwiz make me no mood to eat la and not delicious..
the food price is like almost outside food. example, nasi goreng pattaya rm 4. outside also rm4.
lord, when u goin back? i goin back sunday 5/7. duno sempat to tidy my house and room or not..

the pasar malam seems cacat la. one operate for 3 weeks or 4weeks oni then tutup ed.
duno they will continue or not cos i don think many ppl go. yala koperasi also quite expensive but sometimes still buy cos no choice. haha.

if u stay at kuantan, u need to take 30minutes to go ump and come back to kuantan 30minutes. total 1 hours plus.
sumore if u stay at kuantan, it is hard for u to do group discussion and group assignment.
u are not allowed to stay at outside ump once u r ump student. tis is the policy.

the speed in ump is slow, if more users, the speed will drop. btw, u cant dwl movies or torrent. they block it.
i m sorry to tell u dat, air cond room is not for local students like us. it is for international students frm china, arab, n master students.
even u have the $ but u cant get it. in the uni got washing machine, rm 2 for a big loads of clothes.

no prob. so wat ur decision? SEGI or UMP?

ump inside got bank islam and bank muamalat. only two atm machine oni. if outside, that means it is at petronas petrol station got maybank. but it takes 5minutes drive.

regarding toilet, it depends which kk (kolej kediaman) u stay. if u stay at kk1, each floor got 1 toilet but the toilet got 4 rooms 2bath n 4 rooms to DO BIG BUSINESS. kk2 is each house got 2bathrooms. both also can do big n small business. kk1 and kk2 is oni for guys. now 60% kk1 is for girls. if kk4, i duno cos it is new hostel.

i have a friend that pay the fees around rm1.8k then she stop studyin there durin orrientation week, but she went to the pejabat bendahari to ask for refund. as i know, they refund others and dint refund pendaftaran fees and other stuff.. i think when u receive the comfirm letter frm ump, then u will know wat the refund cos they stated in the book. mayb u will receive it by 2mrw.

btw, ump not good? ums is so far away frm semenanjung msia. if u frm sabah n sarawak then u should choose ums. if not, i don think u should change to ums. ump is a small uni and very secure. but i don think the Dean will give u a place in ums cos many ppl is waitin too..

ya lo.. we also provide chem eng.. ump is an enginnering uni also.
kita akan menjadi sebuah uni yg bertaraf dunia pada suatu hari nanti..
thinkin when.. haha.. u come ump, u can alwiz go jungle tracking n genting.

erm.. u r a chinese girl right? if u r chinese, normally they dont wear baju kurung. they wear a colar tshirt and a long pants wit sandal or shoe. but remember, a COLAR t shirt! so try buy more colar tshirt for urself cos u need to use it durin normal classes. when durin presentation, wear formal wit black shoes. that is a long sleeve shirt, slack pants and black shoe. remember, NO SKIRTS are allowed.. once u got ur faculty jacket, u can wear round neck tshirt inside. that is not a prob. seldom chinese girl wear baju kurung unless some functions.

and malay girls, i see them wear round neck t shirt but they wear tudung, so it cant be seen the colar.

yes, i mean POLO T shirts for normal class and office wear durin presentation.. short sleeve is acceptable but it doesnt look nice when u present. it will b better if u wear long sleeves office wear.

cover butt? that just a reminder only la. they dont really care bout it, our uni is not that strict and they wont simply kompaun u. for safety, buy bigger clothes loh and u can use it for the total of 4years. haha.. students dont really follow the dress code in uni, new students will follow for few months, after that they will start wearin sandals to class for guys, wear jeans, n bla bla..

haha.. i think u all dint get the student book. lastime we got but it totally dint help a lot. the info they provide is so so little.

i wan remind u that, there is NO CHINESE FOOD in uni. hope u can suit ur self wit malay food 3meals a day.

haha.. Sundry Shop? that is normal.. u need to buy a lot of food and keep in the room. my friend bought a lot of food, snacks n drinks inside his room.
if war, we still can stand for few months. if finish, u can go to carrefour and giant in kuantan to stock it up. once we go kuantan, we spend almost one hundred 2buy for food.

during classes, u can wear short sleeve polo t cos they dint mention must wear long sleeve cos the weather is hot but in class, it will b very cold. don forget brin sweater. if u wan, u can bring ur own bicycle come, it is more easy for u go class n go for sport cos sport complex located a bit further from classes.

u can find those service in ecom.. rm5 for an hour n rm40 for half day.
who wan to buy bicycle n internet cable? i can provide price much cheaper than those in ump.
