When should a person buy their homes for retirement? 20 years before they plan to retire? 30?

I scared that if I buy too early, the place becomes overcrowded. But I'm also scared that if I buy too late, bank won't approve.

You start as early as possible. Your first house will not become your retirement home normally. You will go through the phases of a couple of upgrades before finally reaching your retirement home.

You only buy own stay when you think your retirement close enough probably 10 to 15 years. Any house after 20 - 30 years will become rotten or outdated.

if you are 20 or 30 too young to think of retirement (no challenging life) biggrin.gif
If you are late 40 or early 50, yes you can search of new retirement home

you buy property to wait.
not wait to buy.

and besides, what you buy now, does not mean you need to stay there in future.
you just need to be sure you can dispose it then and buy wherever you wishes.

If you worry bank won't approve your loan mean you are late.

if the place is over crowded, there is nothing to stop you to sell and buy at another quiet or ulu place.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Anyway to clarify, this is not my first home. But capital management is another thing lah...right now landed in Semenyih costs as much as an apartment in Bangsar South / Kerinchi.

Can monetize Bangsar South / Kerinchi but don't see myself staying there long term.

Can stay in Semenyih long term but don't see how I can monetize easily.

Just an example lah

Tbh I wish I had thought more about my retirement in my 20s. There would have been things I would have done differently.

if early 20s retirement, the things you would have done in your retirement plan put you into boring life in long term as you have long way to go before reach elderly or Senior citizen biggrin.gif
