I took off the hsf of the colorful 8600gt ultra. It had yellow stuff as thermal paste/adhesive. Tough to remove them. Had to scrap and scrap. Then I applied mx-2. Now gonna update winxp and reinstall all my stuff so I can see the temps.

i replaced the TIM too. but got no fan blowing at it. not bad, your load temp increase by 4 degrees only.
my idle is 47, load can reach 60 |

his 54-55 is load temp.
I'm sure most of us reapply thermal paste to the hsf. My idle is 45, load is 60. So his load temp is possible, with the extra fan. |

erm, I just noticed shawty did his 3dmark06 using 1024.
Why not use the default resolution of 1280? Like that easier to compare results |

Make so much fuss for wat? Take all the models of 8600GT in Malaysian market and compare with Colorful 8600GT UE, just by comparing the specs you will know that Colorful wins. Plus its stock heatsink is so much better.
The reason why I chose UE is cause it has the power connector. With that sure can overclock more than the OC version. Pricewise although over my budget abit, I still went ahead and bought the card. Almost GTS performance at a cheaper price. Though I have no 120mm fan blowing at the card, my idle temps are 46 and looping 3Dmark06 gets me 60. Since you're such a stickler for details, 1) I applied mx-2, 2)sidepanel open, 3)92mm exhaust fan This post has been edited by slash: Aug 9 2007, 10:14 PM |

depends on the user. u have to see it in their context. those with sidepanel fans, stock for them would mean just plugging the card in, closing the panel, and getting the readings. anyway shawty already listed out how he ran the card, and i listed my temps in comparison with his. So TomatomanzSeedlezz can just read and interpret the results accordingly. He said he's in the market for a card for his bro, and shawty is just trumpeting (albeit loudly) the pros of the colorful UE, which is kinda true and is a star buy for anyone looking for a midrange card.

QUOTE(TomatomanzSeedlezz @ Aug 11 2007, 09:47 PM) Imagine like noobs like me, after hearing saying 51'c [stock], then a customer bought it from sHawTY.. seeing his temp. nuthin near 51'c.. then later only ask "why like tat ah?"... and yet he mentioned [no air-con] so i assume he meant no additional cooling. If your case has adequate airflow, stock temps wont go above 51, IMO. Look at the insides of my casing. Only when I orthos does the idle temp rise to 50 (cpu@65 !!). Else when doing nothing the idle temps are 46. This card is really worth it. Just register a new account then join the bulk. *hint hint* so u might getting higher temp. without additional cooling".. or something like that.. Attached thumbnail(s) |

LOL I took out the hsf for my 8600gt w/o warming up the TIM. Too impatient. Waited 2 weeks to get the card and cant wait to get the pc setup. The only tough part for me was scrapping the yellow TIM off the core and heatsink. Yes, i used a small flat-head screwdriver and slowly scrap the TIM off. Didnt occur to me to use something plastic. -.-
Another method could be to set the fan to spin at the lowest speed. Then load a game, play for a min, then shut down pc and remove the hsf. That way the heatsink wont be cooled so fast. |

use the CM or acbel to power the fans lo.
Added on August 15, 2007, 12:34 am QUOTE(RokXIII @ Aug 14 2007, 04:36 PM) i would like to ask that, if i'm using tape cleaner to clean my proc IHS, will it bring any damage to the processor? Shouldnt damage. It will evaporate off anyway. I soaked the 8600gt core in isopropyl, so that the TIM would be easier to scrap off. And the card is still working fine now.
