if you are not a serious gamer, or you don't have a big size monitor, 8600gt is very enuff for your gaming..I am using a 8600gt now, although I am going to change to a 2900 soon but I stilll like 8600gt..it can just simply hit 10k with this 8600gt card after oced.. it's cheap for this card but it can play most of the game in high setting...I am using a 22" LCD running very smooth on oblivion, stalker, aoe3, c&c3 and dark mersiah.

get an OCed 8600gt such as galaxy premium or palit sonic version thumbup.gif
I prefer palit one, coz its the only one that comes out with 2 slot cooling, first in world for a budget card like this

Judging from Shamino's review, X2900XT doesn't seems that great for the price to be paid. And somehow ATI's IQ lose this time. But my my, 1Ghz core and 1Ghz memory for 16K 3DMark06.

dont write it off bro

did u see the overclock on stock.. thats beats a gtx already...here is the proof.. of my very own before..kekek but take note the lastest driver gives about 500 points or more than this...

the question is just HEAT HEAT HEAT...

i suspect because x2900 doesnt work like the g80's work with the shader clock and core clock.. so u every mhz u overclock teh x2900xt.. gives u a performance gain..

again.. either i buy them to test it .. or somebody has to. the question is
so far " Doom " sold his 8800gts to get this,
how many ppl who said wait and see and etc etc will get the card..
or are they going to say in august and hence forth.

dunno laa guys, from my point of view, the gts is already enough for your everday gaming use.... by looking at all the reviews, i say that insane power requirements, extreme heat. and ridiculous mod is not (for this 2900xt) is not worth my money... just my 2 cents.

The 3DMark06 is good, but gaming performance not quite impressive from Sham's review. Could be driver issue, waiting for better driver release and see what X2900XT can do. biggrin.gif

Temperature Monitoring

As there are no applications are available to read off the GPU temperature, we used the most traditional method. We attached our multimetre's temperature probe to the metal plate of the graphics card. We recorded the before and ater scores of the graphics card. The test is conducted in a room of an average 28 deg ambient room temperature.

We let the card to stabilise as we don't run any 3D applications. The recorded temperature is 42 Deg Celsius. After that, we began running 3Dmark05 which is more GPU intensive. At the end of the test, the recorded temperature is 53 deg celsius.

We did the same thing again, this time round, we connect the probe to the exhaust of the graphics card. The temperatures before and after are 50 deg celsius and 55 deg celsius.

Considering a plus minus of 5 deg, we would expect the GPU to reach around 60 degrees under intense usage.

Note that these readings are taken off with mainboard and graphics card in open air

whats their ambient temp 10C??if according to what shamino review blink.gif

this review terbalik.. haiyo y cant they use the latest driver for xt.
and errr the card only overclocked can beat the gtx
so.. y dont they compare with the gts..
funny larr this two reviews...
like two dumb asses..

oh yeah u can see the difference in the 158 driver from looking at both reviews and also see the difference with the 8.37 drivers.

the whole LYP dont have the 8600 sonic doh.gif
only thunder match got, but only the normal version

having no other choice, I bought galaxy 8600gt OC with CM fan, although the price is same as 7900gs, but for the sake of dx10 and lesser power requirements, I chose 8600gt, hopefully that would be a good choice.
