But, my 8500 is OC edition....
*
OC or no OC, that's not the main point.
The main point is what the card offers.

8600 series offers more pipelines, better graphics technology and has some other stuff that i don't have time to explain in here. smile.gif

How in the world you think an 8500 can be at the same level of 8600?
Offcourse it can't. laugh.gif

Your card is not underpowered, it is utilized perfectly, however, it can't go at the same level of 8600.
About the 5000 points in 3Dmark, that one, he did some Vmod, yes the benchmark can go nearly at 8600 series, but results in benchmark doesn't mean you will get the same performance in gaming. laugh.gif

All i can say is the 8500 is a very low end card, it can't even fight with 7300, to me, 8500 is not worth the buying at all. smile.gif

Eh guys... the difference gap between 8800GTS and 8800GTX. Is it big?? Suddenly I got some naughty idea to change my GTS to GTX. Do you guys think its worth it??

I've used all three types of 8800 which is 8800GTS 640MB, 8800GTX & 8800Ultra.
If you ask me, yerp, it got some gap, but if you want the best, directly jump into 8800Ultra. thumbup.gif

seriously changine from GTS to GTX now isn't a wise move, (unless u re really really loaded lor whistling.gif)
expect 2nd gen batch of nvidia 8900 or 9xxx series to be out later in the year, with probably dx10.1 support. GTS is overkill enough for most of the dx9 games on the market, furthermore ur gaming resolution which is 22" can be handled perfectly by just 320MB already

If you ask me, i didn't change the thermal pad, i leave it just like that as i just replace the TIM on top of the core IHS only. blush.gif
*
can i just apply a big drop of mx-1 or mx-2 on the memory of my 8800gts for replacement of thermal pad??? i did that to my pwm heat sink before n it works... but i'm not sure if it can fill the gap... where to buy thermal pad???

they r in different league
different ball game

comparing them in low resolution is just plain absurd
take a look at high resos bench with all eye candy enabled
it is where the GTX shines and GTS crawl brows.gif

Just tried some minor OCing on my MSI 8800GTS yesterday. Upped the speed from 575/850 to 600/900 and i got extra 4k on 3D Mark03. Temperature is roughly the same as well. Performance wise, its just roughly the same..LOL...

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Aug 12 2007, 06:56 PM)
Good question, i've been asking the same question to myself too.
Weird why they put so much TIM on the core.

All 8800 that i've used are the same, 8800GTS 640MB, 8800GTX, 8800Ultra, all same, even my 2900XT also they apply so much TIM. rclxub.gif
*
In this case bro, do you think its better to reapply the TIM for 8800?Have you seen the one on the 320MB before? Are they overapplied?

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Aug 12 2007, 11:39 PM)
Duhh, offcourse lar.
8500 is the lowest end GC from Nvidia 8XXX series. laugh.gif

While 8600 is Mid End liao. smile.gif
*
There is still 8400 IIRC.. smile.gif

If i were you, i will go straight towards the 8800Ultra (IF you really desperate to get something better). Dont think you will see too much difference between the GTS and GTX on your 22" though unless you are getting this uber high resolutions one like 27" and 30"...

Yes.
You should apply, but remember, if you want to open the heatsink, do take a look on where did they put the warranty sticker.
If the put it on top of some screws, don't bother opening the heatsink else you might screw the warranty. laugh.gif

Allo brother, if 8800GTS 640MB, 8800GTX & 8800 Ultra all got overapplied, what makes you think the 8800GTS 320MB could run from overapplied? laugh.gif

LOL...My warranty sticker is already off from the PCB. Dont know why it came off but still in one piece. So dont think there will be any problem to take out the screws..LOL..

How much difference does it make though if i reapply the TIM?

Well, for starters, when i change the TIM on my 8800GTS 640MB, [Core only] the temps goes down from 57°C to 52°C.
Owh, did i state that time i was using only MX-1?

Just imagine what temps you will be getting if you replace the stock TIM to MX-2. brows.gif

Owh, for 8800, you can't use the rice grain method of reapplying TIM, because it uses IHS, and the IHS is way bigger than a processor's IHS, you'll have to spread it by yourself.

Apply a thin layer of TIM and remember to spread it, as we don't know where does the core of G80 were placed under the IHS, and we don't know how big is the core, so it's better to spread the TIM.
Not like processor, the core sits on the middle under the IHS, so it's not a problem to place a rice grain size of TIM and let the HSF spread the TIM by itself.

EDIT:
Forgot to tell you, the HSF is rather hard to be opened, so the best way to take out the HSF is by opening the HSF quickly after running some heavy games as the card is still hot and the TIM is still in liquid form, so it's best to take out the HSF when it is still hot. smile.gif

Thanks for the info there bro. As off now, i might either use the MX-1 or AS5 as i already have them in hand. MX-2, i have still yet to get it..LOL..

Need to change it quickly eh..I might not be that swift though..LOL..I will check and see how hard is it though. In this case, can i blow it using hair dryer if its too hard? Or must plug into system to run it first?

Well, yea, during that time, many people would recommend the 8500GT. This is because both cards are having roughly the same price and yet, the 8500GT is offering an advantage in being DX10 capable. Even i would recommend the 8500GT. Performance wise, i think the 8500GT is slightly better than the 7300GT. But not sure how OCable are they. 7300GT are solid overclockers and may even surpass the 8500GT when OCed..
