Hi there!

quick question. i am doing fixing laptop as a part time business. so if a friend or friend's of friend passed me a laptop, i'll happily do a reformat for a small fee. smile.gif

recently, somebody passed me a laptop to be formatted, during the internet restore, the find my mac warning was activated non stop.

I was stressed and shut down even the OS installation was completed. As a result, the macbook crashed, so i tried using usb restore.

Things became from bad to worst. Now, i am not able to on it.

The customer is blaming me and is demanding for a full compensation of the laptop.

I am suspecting that this laptop is a stolen unit so i'm thinking of checking with somebody in apple store to see if they can trace the serial number to the original owner.,

I've already asked the customer to provide me proof of receipt but he has failed to do so for now.

Any kind soul would like to give some advice?

Thanks!

if the macbook belongs to the customer..why would the warning goes off?

that is why. i felt something wasn't right and i shut right off due to panic.

When i asked to provide me proof of receipt, he was not able to do so.

but now he's just demanding for compensation.

i'm just thinking if i am able to proof the original owner of it, i can then bring this laptop to police station and report as a stolen mac.

If he wants it back he can go to the police station and take it.

before u formatted it... did u notice anything inside tht can be use to question him? if he is the owner.. surely he can tell u what's inside...

or ask him the serial number? macbook spec?

unfortunately i went straight with the format. silly move by my end.

I wasn't able to see any of his files inside because it was already locked by a password.

yeah will try the macbook route specs.

have you try using OS X bootable installer? need to create it then install using usb drive

Did that and that caused the whole pc to not boot anymore

I've decided to just suffer a loss and pay some compensation. Painful lesson learnt
