My personal FC, heavy foot, 40% highway 60% city, 1k mileage. Indicator show 11.1 L/100km. Actual FC based on total petrol used, 13. 6 L/100km.

I think less than 10L/100km is achievable, it is all depend on driving habit

Wow, I can only say the consumption is horrendous even for heavy foot. This reflects what circulated around the net is correct
1. The consumption doesn’t take idling into account
2. The fuel consumption far exceeds the declared rating

With the fuel tank 60l and assuming 8l reserve, so 52l fuel will only get you about 380km. I can imagine it might be worst if 100% city drive.

Probably once you trigger the turbo, the consumption will shoot up.

but if you calculate the total cost savings from better FC, even at 2k km monthly mileage, for 5 years, cannot beat the 30k cheaper car price of the X70

You are correct in terms of total cost of ownership, there are, however, other side effects like having to visit petrol station more often, hard to predict if your petrol can cover x distance especially in highway (suddenly stuck in jam). I mean these are more like mental effect if you ask me. Usually only engineers or Technical oriented people will think like you. If not, you won’t be seeing people lining up to refill petrol even the price only goes up by ten cents.

I mean, Malaysian mindset tends to place fuel consumption in a rather high spot,if not you won’t be seeing more Alza than Exora in the road, despite the latter offer higher power, bigger space and drivability.

At the end of the day, if the buyer wishes to buy with full loan at 9 years, best they rethink again.

The maintenance of the SUV isn't going to be cheap. 19" SUV tyres aren't cheap (yeah, Ling Long brand pun ada, boleh jimat duit... LOL). The ATF is RM500 every 3 years, coolant RM119 every 3 years, spark plugs RM112 yearly.  Fuel consumption is gonna be hell as it's 1.7 tons beast (not your 1.2 tons B segment Japanese car). Wait till you see the price of the shock absorbers & lower arm bushings, these gotta carry a 1.7 ton car.

The RV isn't gonna be great too, so you'll end up having to pay back the bank hire-purchase should you decide to sell before 9 years.

In short, if you're just about making ends meet, think again coz your pocket can't support your desire.

thumbsup.gif Kinda agree with you. Face value wise, x70 does look appealing, but I think those who can really afford x70 should be from the group that able to afford those like ~>130k ish cars like cx5 low spec.

For those who are thinking to stretch their financial to step up from cars B-seg like Honda City or even HRV should think twice due to the reasons you stated above.

For example, x70 probably consume almost close to 2x the fuel of Honda city (based on some users feedback above that it can touch 12-14L/100km, and a Honda city typically average around 7-9L/km, both mixed driving), if B-seg needs to pump RM200 per month, then x70 will need RM300-400 per month. Not mentioning other maintenance cost.

Theres already a comparison video between CRV, X70 and Subaru something in paultan, the difference in FC between crv and x70 is only 1 litre. I think if you can afford to buy a 130K car, fc is not a problem.

I wouldn't consider paultan a good comparison as they never mentioned how they test their FC (I wouldn't even consider them as professional automotive reviewers, more like a mixture of humours, advertisement and casual test).

A more reliable source would be real fuel consumption app like fuelly.com or "small bear" app which the china people use.

A quick look into "small bear" app, filtered by (compact suv, transmission = auto, engine type = all)

Average from all owners:
Place no 7: CRV 1.5 turbo = 8.24L/100km (1910 users)
Place no 34: Subaru XV 2.0 4wd = 8.77L/100km (78 users)
Place no 125: Boyue 1.8TD = 10.84L/100km (4095 users)

If this app is reliable, difference between CRV and x70 is likely around 2.6L/100km.

Just a rough calculation to share:
Assuming one drives 24k km per year (Malaysian average driver per year, 2013), assuming fuel price RON95 RM2.2/L (RON95 max price)
X70 will need to spend 624L more fuel than CRV, which equals to RM1373/year.

However, of course you have saved at least ~RM30k already with x70.
BTW, I am not a X70 owner, but just trying to give some data to clear some arguements here.

is the price that we paid that makes us no regrets... lol... petrol consumption maybe highest among the same class SUV... but the difference pricing u paid for x70 specs over a premium spec CRV or CX-5 makes its worthy after all... the 40-50k difference u can refill petrol for alot of times already...  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Just my 2 cents.

I feel that alot of people downplay the factor of petrol consumption by the heavy weight associated. Just to share, my CRV is currently averaging 8.2l/100km (lifetime average, fuelly, hand calculated, PEN traffic condition), so 12l/100km is about 46% higher consumption. Weight 1549kg (CRV) vs 1695kg (x70 premium), weight of x70 is actually only 9.5% higher than CRV. There is a difference in terms of efficiency.

Secondly, with the removal of RON95 incensive soon, we only can see fuel price is going to increase.

Let's put in another way, x70 able to undercut the competition, I think mainly due to price factor along with decent specs offering.

I still remember that when Korean car was popular back then with Kia Forte and Hyundai Elantra stormed the market with good specs to price ratio, but failed to sustain their momentum with subsequent replacement model due to lousy service center, high service price, long leadtime spare parts and bad RV. Hopefully proton under the reign of Geely will be able to sustain the momentem for coming years. Which hopefully also will force the japanese / conti competitors to be more competitive.
