Try Rawsons retreat Merlot if you are on a budget or Penfolds Max Cabernet Sauvignion if you can spend a bit more.
White:
Since I usually like Chardonnay I could definitely try the Rawson's Retreat 'Private Release' Chardonnay as well.

I just googled that one up, I have no idea if that shop is good or not. I actually never buy wine in Malaysia as I think it's not worth it.
If you are a beginner, don't give up if one wine taste like shit. Different wines taste diffrent. I usually like wines made from Chardonnay, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Especially if they are oak aged. And I'm not so found of Riesling and Shiraz. But it's a matter of taste. Keep in mind what grapes that not so nice wine was made of when you find one. When I started my drinking career I actually had a lot of Riesling since they are easy to drink and a bit more sweet. And also was among the cheapest where I lived (not Malaysia). You must try and see for your self what you like!
