Dry clutch Volkswagen is a no no unless you opt for the Passat 2.0L with the Golf GTI engine and wet clutch gearbox.
Parts availability for Honda is everywhere, but definitely not for Volkswagen.
In terms of comfort, definitely the Passat wins by miles, there is just no contest. My elderly parents also complain the rear seat of the Civic FC is very low though spacious. Older people need to put more effort to get in and out of the car.
Boot space wise, Passat wins by far. Civic has a rear stabilizer bar right behind the rear seat. That's why cannot fold down the rear seat.
