QUOTE(chitchat @ Aug 7 2018, 05:09 PM)
I dont think that is the case, more like contract is offered but player dont want to sign and there is nothing the board can do about it.

Same case like HAZARD, contract on the table and he is not signing. Let say u are the board, what are going to do now ? Sell him now and find replacement ? but is not easy to find a replacement of HAZARD caliber. Losing HAZARD might also means losing Top 4 champion league place next season.

RM only willing to paying 35m for COURTOIS which RA/board might feel they are prepare to lose 35m if is to keep the squad strength and get into champion league next season. Remember ALISSON cost 60m and i dont even rate him better than COURTOIS, so we need to pay a lot more to replacement someone as good as COURTOIS.

I kinda agree with SARRI, if he committed then keep him and let him leave for free end of season, but if he say he want to leave then just sell him to RM now. But since he do a AWOL, we might just throw him to reserve for a season as punishment. Anyway the fault is at player, contract should be respected.

For me, if a player at last year of contract and not willing to sign then just sell. But fans will rage when we sell our best player and fail to achieve target end of the season. Even a replacement is bring in, it could be hit and miss and fans have to remember we are moving to a self sustain club so we cant really sell HAZARD and replace with MBAPPE. That is even MBAPPE even want to come CHELSEA.

It's not about the contract situation, the contract situation was well known months or even a year ago. His desire to move back to Madrid was never a secret. The Chelsea board should have seen this coming and be prepared to scout and bring in a new GK, not wait until the final days of a transfer window for Courtois go on strike. You now have a situation where your first choice target - Alisson, was snapped up by a rival because you moved too slow, and other targets are either unrealistic like Oblak/Pickford or lacking quality like Butland.

QUOTE(briantwj @ Aug 7 2018, 06:06 PM)
On the Courtois situation, since he has made his point clear, we should just sell him while we can get more $$ from Real.

From the list of Butland, Pickford. I think Butland more realistic to get, since Stoke has been relegated, and Butland has potential. Pickford I dont think Everton will sell for a cheap price. Butland on the other hand, an England International, I dont think he will wanna spend time in the Championship. And also Butland is proven in PL. Better bet than signing other league GK.

Worse case is Cech. Please dont sign him. With all due respect, I think he is way pass his prime.

Everton will be demanding a GK world record fee for Pickford. This is the worst time to get him coming off a good WC.

[Matt Law] Courtois confident his absence will get him what he wants with Real prepared to send Kovacic to Chelsea and the club investigating whether Kepa could replace him. £71m release clause the obvious hurdle. Butland and Rico still in frame for now.

Kepa's release clause is £71 million but he's 3 years younger than the latter.

I dont see CHELSEA will pay 60m for a GK. So ALISSON deal will not happen anyway.

But Kepa for 80 million Euros.

[Alfredo Pedullà] Sarri has studied the profiles of different goalkeepers to replace Courtois, and for 10 days now, he has focused on Kepa. Sarri considers him to be the perfect modern goalkeeper.

Basque journalist Aitor Pérez: 'Kepa is leaving Athletic Club. He has been spotted at the Bilbao airport to take a flight to Madrid. From there he'll fly to England'.

Kepa has just travelled to Madrid to pay his release clause (€80M) to the Spanish League Federation [Cadena Ser]

COPE : it is most likely that KOVACIC will be given a year to Chelsea without a purchase option.

[DiMarzio] New contacts between Milan and Chelsea for Bakayoko

Well connected @jonjrivasa says that Sarri and former Liverpool keeper Reina have been key in the decision. Reina advised Sarri, who he worked with at Napoli, to sign Kepa and has also encouraged his Spain teammate to sign for Chelsea and work under Sarri.

[Matt Law] I think Kepa and Kovacic will probably complete Chelsea's business this summer unless an opportunity they can't refuse presents itself. Jorginho, Kepa and Kovacic v decent business. Best bit of business keeping Hazard tho

Chelsea and Real Madrid have tonight agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Thibaut Courtois subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing a medical.
Subject to the completion of the deal Mateo Kovacic will join the Blues on a season-long loan.

No mention of option to buy in Madrid's official statement which was clearly stated in James' loan deal to Bayern last year. So it's safe to assume there isn't.

Chelsea had £90m bid for Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak rejected

Chelsea failed in a €100m (£89.4m) bid for a Spain-based goalkeeper before ultimately concluding last week’s world-record transfer of Kepa Arrizabalaga. Attempting to recruit a replacement for Real Madrid-bound Thibaut Courtois ahead of Thursday’s deadline, the Premier League club sought to buy Jan Oblak out of his contract at Atletico.

Oblak — named in La Liga’s team of the season twice in the last three years — had a €100m release clause, which Chelsea hoped to exploit. The Slovenia international, however, rejected the proposed move to London in favour of continuing his career at a club qualified for this season’s Champions League.
