I have just discovered this. I always thought that the new Nintendo Rewards GoldCoins is only for digital copies. Didn't realized you can claim rewards from GameCards you bought earlier!

Here's what you do:
1. Insert GameCard.
2. Highlight the game from the Menu
3. Press "+" (option)
4. Select "MyNintendo Rewards".
5. Select "Earn Points", then choose the eshop account you want to put the coins to.

I have collected 60 coins each from Mario+Radbbid, Mario Oddysey and Splatoon 2. (Mario Rabbid i bought 2nd hand somemore...lol)

The info there says it's applicable for games released within a year. So quickly claim now! Probably games like BOTW cannot claim anymore since it was a launch game over a year ago. Those who have a physical copy of BOTW maybe can try and update here!

I was also thnking....does it checks for unique serial no in the Gamecard? If not, we can just pool all the gamecards, share and plug in to our Switches to claim reward for each individfual titles! LOL.

Too bad digital copies bought previously can't claim....sad.gif

Can't claim my BOTW. It's expired

With new Game Cards able to claim GoldCoins, is it still worth it to get used Game Cards? As it cannot claim Goldcoins.

Yeah...BOTW launched in March 2017 together with Switch....

Yes, new Gamecards can claim gold coins, but only 60 for a full priced game (USD 59.99) compared to 300 gold coins for Digital.

But still worth it lah. Buy 2nd hand physical cheaper , then sell again. Sometimes even new physical games cheaper a bit compared to Digital.

But Digital very convenient, no need swap cards, which is annoying.

Its better than nothing , but still you need to buy 100 games to get 1 regular free game .

Most people like myself have only got like 10 games , it is going to be a long long while before I get 6000 coins

Not to mention half of those games I got have already expired like BOTW

Er. The coins can be used for discount lah. Doesnt mean you need to save until 6000 coins.

If you have 200 coins, means you get USD 2 discount. Say the Game is USD 10. So you pay USD 8. And you get coins for your new purchase as well.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Btw, the number of games in your calculation varies depending on the price of the game.

That is assuming you are going to buy any games from them digitally .

Most of the first party games still cost 60 dollars , a discount of 60 cent ( per game card you owned )is as I have said previously , better than nothing but insignificant.
You need to own a lot of games to actually get a decent discount.

On the other hand Amazon prime give you a straight 20% off for any game preorders

If you want to go digital, its the way to go. Theres a price to pay for convenience. And digital games have higher gold coins.rewards.

Btw, you Amazon Prime ships to Malaysia? Fed up with Amazon, always not deliver to Malaysia...

If you want your goldcoin to be "worthy" , use it to buy the DLC of the game of your choice instead.
