I believe the reason why Uber failed here is because it didn't take into account local rider situation. Not allowing driver to see rider's destination AND having no minimum fare is unworkable here. This resulted in riders calling Uber for RM1 and RM2 rides which incur losses to drivers especially if they have to pay toll to reach the rider. Uber did not expect that due to our hot climate and local laziness to walk many call for short rides of less than 1 km. Grab is a homegrown product so it is more savvy and avoided Uber's mistake.
some flaw in your statement there. Regardless of the fare is 1/2 or even free, uber will still reward the driver directly. secondly, the toll fare is already included in the trip together, without the need to manually add like grab, that is one good integration I can say, there some minor times it is not accurate but they will simply credit back after one just report to them. The laziness part is very subjective. back in the ol' days when there was still taxi only available, folks use to walk to the main street to get a taxi. so it's all about perception and mindset plus attitude.
