A Quiet Place is a 2018 American horror film directed by John Krasinski, who also stars in the film with Emily Blunt, his real life spouse. The screenplay was written by Krasinski, Bryan Woods, and Scott Beck based on a story by Woods and Beck. The plot follows a family of four who must live life in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound. The film premiered at South by Southwest on March 9, 2018 and has received critical acclaim. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 6, 2018, by Paramount Pictures.

A Quiet Place (2018)

I notice this movie, whilst compiling my annual horror movie viewing list.

The premise, sounds promising, and have to be honest, expectation was NOT high.

I am please to eat my low expectation, and proclaim here, THIS IS A GREAT HORROR MOVIE!

Director/Main Male Lead John Krasinski and Main Female Lead Emily Blunt are actually husband and wife.

I know, I know, they are asking for trouble to appear in the same movie together.

Think Cleopatra (1963)...

Think Eyes Wide Shut (1999) (Ironically, forever associated with Stanley Kubrick's last work...)

Both highly publicize lemon it's day

Can John and Emily avoid this... stigma?

Yes, yes they can!!

John, and I am hypothesizing here, learnt from past masters of suspense (Alfred?) and really, really put the pressure on his audience, keeping them at the edge of their seats. No gimmick, no fancy CGI (well, some, but not overwhelming so), and gave us an honest, thrilling, suspenseful, horror movie.

At some point in the movie, I actually ask myself, why am I taking all this sensory abuse from the movie. Am I some kind of masochist?

I surprise myself with the answer, yes, yes I am!!! laugh.gif

This is a fantastic horror movie.

Good script, good delivery (acting, directing the works)

Surprise that Paramount has made this, and I cannot remember a good horror by paramount, until I google it (Sleepy Hollow is more dark comedy to me, Paranormal Activity, I will give them that etc etc...)

This one is one to remember.

I humbly submit to you, a bloody good horror movie.

Enjoy

My Two Sen.

A little better than Cloverfield. Reminds me of TREMORS(1990) where you make a sound the creatures come to you.

I thought it was pretty good. Would have been better if I got to watch it in a quiet hall. There were people coming in and out and since I was sitting at the very back near the door, I can hear people talking outside.
Wouldn't rank this as one of the scariest I've seen but its definitely one of the unique ones. Every once in a while there will be a horror movie that stands out and this is one of them. I thought it was really fresh to see something different. It didn't drag for too long and ended when it should. Some people were not satisfied they didn't get an actual ending like most movies.
Oh and the trailer for Ghostland and The Lodgers were played and it looked horrible! Didn't look scary at all and its like the same old scares and all...

This film is terrifying and filled with suspense, which is further amplified with the lack of dialogue. A must watch if you want to experience horror in a fresh setting.

Loved this movie too. Great acting, great cast, good script and directing, made full use of silence and sound editing. Overall 8.5/10. Definitely one of the better movies of the year so far. Worth watching in cinema.

It's not horror per se, thriller monster movie, very nerve wrecking. Also I can't believe Emily Blunt hasn't won an Oscar, the bathtub + nail scenes alone showed her incredible performance. She's really good in conveying these kinds of emotion surge (watch Sicario).

As a whole, John did a great job in directing and acting too. Recommended.

Just a side note about the ending, I too felt it was a bit rushed but I guess, there's not much you can do with movies of this genre. At least it's better than Annihilation.

Enjoyed quite a bit of the movie. There are burst of intense moments and did a great job of immersing you in the world of silence. It did not elevate beyond survival horror playbook and not going any deeper in the father/daughter dynamic. To me a little too telling of a plot device in the daughter portrayal. Just felt too crowd pleasing once it hit the 3rd act.

It goes without saying Emily Blunt brings up the movie a lot and not 100% sold on Krasinski on screen. Think he is better suited behind camera and hope he able to smash the next movie he directed. Finger crossed not a one hit wonder.

Fuyohh! This movie is the best, the silence itself give that eerie feeling. Its like watching 10 Cloverfield Lane! The plot kills me slowly with tons of unanswered question, haha it left me with a lot of speculation. But the finale feels like watching Mars Attack, Ack Ack!

Emily Blunt was amazing in this. She should get nominated for an Oscar for this; the bathtub scene alone would be her Oscar clip. I could totally feel her pain and desperation in that

Watched where I sat second row from the front to get away from the noise and just immerse myself into it. At least no one can see me shed a few tears too down there. Nice concept but the third act has to conclude that way isn't it and they have no other way to progress so might as well just ends on a cliffhanger. I'll take it anyway as it would just drag on if they did continue from there.

Michael Bay partly owned Platinum Dunes the production company and believed they have multi picture deals with Paramount. Previously they made half plus six horror reboots that got nowhere. It's his modest budget label that operates similarly like BlumHouse.

Finally managed to catch this before Avengers taking over all the cinemas in a few days.

My god this movie is intense and the 3rd keep suffocating you with some crazy situations non-stop. By far the best exhilarating cinema experience for me.
Good concept, brilliantly executed, well acted and the creature was surprisingly detailed for a low budget feature. Amazing work by Krasinski.

Watched it today... before a certain 'indie' film with big stars arrive this week tongue.gif

I have to say... the horror genre is quite cliche and easily falls into the same pitfalls.

To see something as refreshing as 'A Quiet Place' is such a relief.

The last great 'horror' film I saw was "Get Out" (that was more of a social commentary kinda film...) but this one, this one is totally unique.

Horror films usually go hand in hand with the grotesque imagery + sound, but here... it is done so masterfully, that sound > visuals! biggrin.gif

OK la.. maybe until the 'monsters' really show themselves up close.

Here, sound is almost a character on its own... each individual 'obeying the rules' carefully is an absolute thrill.

Props to Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, the real life husband-wife duo, they worked so wonderfully well together.

The acting performances are nothing short of extraordinary, with Emily Blunt doing the 'heavy' work (pun intended) laugh.gif

Love the story (no spoon feeding), the pacing is as good as it can get (some say it is a slow burner, I think not) and the ending is precisely how it should be.

Easily a 9.5/10.

The only downside is probably the lack of the 'origins' to the creatures or some kind of hint as to how it all started (alien invasion?). But overall, a totally, totally immersible horror flick, A MUST WATCH!

Oscar for Emily for this movie is a bit too much.

After all it's sci-fi movie.

'The Girl on the Train' is more like it but sadly not even nominated.

I really enjoyed this movie but found that the people in them quite...........

A Quiet Place 2 (2021)

This is how sequels should always strive for...

Expanse the movie's universe.

We find out what happens to the Abbots family.

Emily Blunt is always great

John Krasinski I like as a director

Millicent Simmonds flexes her acting skills.

So did Noah Jupe.

Cillian Murphy remains me of Cillian Murphy in 28 days later...

So, in short I love the casting.

The storyline is strong.

Yes, we get more of the Aliens!

Watch this if you like the first and want more.

If you have not watch the first movie, why not?

Go watch that. Enjoy. Then go watch this.

My Two Sen
