Hi there,

I am planning to take up a degree in accounting but I do not know which University in Malaysia provides the best accounting programme...so I would really need people to give me opinions on this... (Eg, the reputation of the actg degree from the uni, the study environment, lecturers, tuition fees, employability..etc)

FYI, I am also planning to take up my ACCA papers after graduating from my bachelor's degree ,just in case this piece of information would make any difference in choosing a uni.

Also, I understand that some would say it will be better to take ACCA but I don't want to, I'd like to experience uni life so taking ACCA straightaway is a no for me..thanks!

As others have pointed out, there really isn't a huge difference between universities as long as your degree is recognised and accredited.

Please let us know which area/state you are living in, or if you are willing to relocate to another city for your degree. Somebody could suggest Sunway, but you could be living in Penang instead.

What is your financial threshold/budget for fees? Any plans to take up financial assistance (PTPTN loan) or scholarships?

Employability depends on how well you perform in the interviews. That degree is merely a paper to get your foot through the door, but once you're in your results/degree doesn't matter anymore. Undertaking an internship while you study would make you stand out from the rest of the competition.

There's nothing wrong in wanting to enjoy university life before taking accreditation papers. But isn't it normal for accounting students to take just 1 or 2 of these papers during the tenure of their degree as part of the course requirement? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Certain university's degree gets more exemptions for ACCA.

check here

http://www.accaglobal.com/my/en/help/exemp...calculator.html

Like Monash / heriot Watt, you can get 9 papers exemptions.

If you are ambitious and determine enough, ICAEW is a better course .

Generally speaking, if you can get 2:1, most of the big 4 will take you .

If going to study ACCA after graduation, just choose either degree which has been awarded maximum exemptions.

If you want to choose the safest pathway, choose the degree (4 years) which recognized by MIA. (You can still study any professional qualifications)

If you wish to study ICAEW, it is better to choose UM, Nottingham (or other UK universities with good reputation), I heard that the almnus from the universities are mostly being encouraged by Big4 to take ICAEW. (Not sure about Heriot-Watt and Reading)

Academic wise, Monash would be the best, followed by University of London International Programme, Reading and Sunway-Lancaster, then Nottingham, UTAR, Taylors (Based on their accounting-related past year papers lol); However, if you wish to learn more (e.g. accounting standards), TARUC is a good choice.
