If you want to go with all the traditional stuff, then you need someone to be telling everybody what to do, when to do what. This is what the dai kam does basically. Otherwise everybody kelam kabut.

Save money just have simple registration and then dinner will do.

I forgot but the one i hired...she talk a lot of funny stuff...kept the guest entertained with her funny antics. No cringy jokes or jokes which makes ppl roll eyes. If pick the right one can really make the occasion very merry.

If you want to save money, no need hire dai kam che, i have seen a wedding couple without hire dai kam che, their photographer did the job by telling the couple and family members what to do for the ceremony. Just that it's not so happening and merry only.

Depends on both family side if really need to follow the traditional stuff/ritual. My wedding, i asked my auntie to help... that one also half know half dunno.. But still ok la since my side and wife side also not those traditional mindset..

Dai kam is like keeper of tradition. If your family already very kuat in the tradition knowledge then no need.

But if nobody know what to do, then hire one to make the process more smooth. You don't want your wedding to be awkward.

I have a team that covers actual wedding day service. Photography, videography, cinematography and makeup. So I deal with this kinda people a lot. Some dai kam waste time with their unnecessary traditions. But the following two is best I have met in 3 years.

at night she even assist to remind of procedure and lookout for me
and my wife as we contanstly moving around. i find that her service helped us a lot so my other family member,especially parents/sibling can truly enjoy their time
