At present, we are reevaluating the way we view modchips in this forum. Since there was never any rules that were put in place for this, it has been sort of a grey area.

Therefore, we are now brainstorming the legality of modchips among the moderating team and until that is done, we will hold all action.

Just found out today I got 10% warning, for posting in a Nintendo thread called "sending your US wii for modification ... ! "
Not only me gets a 10% warning, EVERYONE in there gets a warning from AsenDURE.

The thread basically is discussing about modded Wii, and some forumers did mention about the piracy stuffs, and they deserve to get warn.
But for some of us we didn't even mention anything about piracy at all and still gets warn!

Here's my posting which gets me a warning:
I only talking about multi-region capability, and is that wrong?? Is multi-region = piracy? I believe any of my and some other forumers posting in there mention nothing about piracy.

Is modding illegal in LYN?  If it's illegal, then all those posting in threads related to selling or doing modding service should gets warning also!

Just because some mention about piracy in a thread and the whole thread gets a warning is UNFAIR!  mad.gif

Just like youngkies said...Then if u say modding deserves a warn then my thread should be gone early lolz....Maybe u try to ask the moderator?

I'd agree that the threadstarter didn't deserve the warn, but this needs a suspension if u ask me wink.gif

Accidentally came by this thread and couldn't resist giving some input here.

It is not right that when I purchase a console, I cannot open up the case and change whatever I want to it. Do I not own the device or do I own only the license to use the device? Does this fall into IP? I think we need to differentiate between software and hardware. This definitely falls under hardware. Even if I mod, the most the manufacturer can do is to void the warranty.

So, I hope LYN will show some character in supporting small users like me.

Well, go and read the EULA and tell us what it says in regards to the modding. Why am I not doing it? 'cause I don't own one.

Imho, modding your game console with the intention to play pirated games is considered illegal even though you're the owner. In simpler words, modding something that leads to consecutive illegal actions should not be practiced in this forum.

As for this case, i think it will be wise if the mods temporarily close the thread and discuss about this "gray area" before awarding everyone a warning. None of them knows that it is illegal to discuss modchips in this forum (let alone allowing forumers selling modchips in garage sales?).

Well since he doesn't give a shit about warns, thought I'd try and show him what else they can do.

Ah, but you have to remember... You are doing this on your own in the privacy of your own home... You're not offering a service or selling a product whose sole purpose is to undermine another product's functionality.

The issue at hand is not on modding per se (Which is one of the draws of the Xbox 360 marketting campaign) but rather commercially available modchips.

I dunno what's the BIG hoohaa over 10% warning (or more, not until you gets banned for a period). those "Warning" won't be visible to other members view , so it wont lower their morality for being "tagged" wiv a warning that others won't know about.

I will only worry about being warned if I HAVE intention to cause myself to be warned again (only worry how much further I can stretch it till I'm banned!). Otherwise, I just live with it. Waiting for 6 months for the warning to be cleared won't be a hard thing to do.

patience, everyone!

it's like being warned privately by a teacher in school. Your other classmates won't know it, NOT UNLESS you decided to bring it up in class (hence causing others to finally knows about it, which I'm sure you never wanted that to happen).

I've been following this thread since it's started..it's not about 10%, 6 months waiting period whatsoever..it's the fact you're given a warning over something you've done nothing wrong...

Although the topic the threadstarter started regarding moddings are on a fine line between legal and illegal..given a 10% warning without any appropriate reason is unacceptable..

If you think getting 10% warning is nothing over no proper reason is fine..Just imagine you're being accused of doing something wrong when you actually didn't...you'd definitely fight for it
