Or just about anything in life, when you get busy, or you have a new hobby, you tend to sacrifice your old passion for it. Been playing music for about 15 years now, and suddenly lost my passion for it. Even not much interest in buying new gears. Playing in a band helps keep it alive, but I barely have time to practice anymore. I remember last time I was so excited to learn all kinds of Children of Bodom songs and shred like YJM or PG, now when I pick up my guitar I just play some short riffs and that's about it. No more interest in learning new songs.

Taking grade 8 violin exam this May, and I don't even have the motivation to practice much for it. Getting worried that I'll be like my friends soon, selling off their guitars as time goes by. I'm not even married yet so it would probably get worse when I have a family.

Be an artist then.. Create your own music.. Publish it.. Play it infront of LIVE audience and try to go as far as you can. Maybe even score for films..

then its time to learn how to shred like Malmsteen's sifu... Paganini

but ya, the only way to keep me motivated to play guitar is to either get in a proper band or do session stuff.

or be like me, buy cheap guitars...

My band currently recording and we're looking to produce an EP, it seems this year we're going full speed, trying to get more gigs. I just don't know why I feel like not too interested in it. I wouldn't touch my bass if it wasn't because jamming or perform. Maybe it's the gym thing, always feeling tired at the end of the day.

normally i go 4 days a week...mon / tue / thu / fri...
wed and weekends are strictly rest days.

the bass is from jalan jalan japan in one city subang...rm350 only.
now im certain its a '75...just at the turn when the lawsuit copies started getting better...so not bad la.
just need to clean up the gunk on the frets...change the pots...and hopefully the pickup works

Spotify will generate some playlist with artist i dont know about. while if you like weird shit in the 60s-70s vinyls are the place to go.

IMO, you don't have to worry about it. Not everyone (not even every musical artist) is invested in music 24/7. When the time comes, music will come calling back to you again. It will.

Have you considered teaching? I had a slump in interest like you, but ended up teaching for fun. Looking at my students' growth and improvement in the instruments I spent so many years trying to perfect was both rewarding and inspiring. When your students succeed in the smallest things (even if it's just learning a new piece), seeing the triumph & excitement on their faces brings you joy as well

Band trying to release EP now, so we're recording stuff. But it's my bandmates who are the drivers, I'm just like tagging along kinda feeling.

Trying to get more metal gigs though, I enjoyed performing that. Playing orchestras makes me bored to death already.

Get your band to do a garage session. Play covers instead of your own songs for a few hours. Enjoy. When you play your own songs you sometimes lose the enjoyment because of the stress in perfecting it. Playing covers can let you enjoy back in the songs that made you love music in the first place.

randomly listen or play to different genre might spark again the passion but my hunch it's one of those band moment lol

the best way to keep motivated for me is to perform in front of an audience..that way it makes you want to practice more to make it perfect

I also have no time to play but I get motivated when I watch good shows and see great players play live. Especially when they play my favourite songs with a different twist. Makes me want to pick up an instrument closest to me be it guitar, bass or drums.
