Comparison between night shot vs auto mode during day time.

Auto mode

From comparison above, night shot able to get better overall exposure for each area. So night shot is useful for daytime or backlight scene, not necessary use for night time only..

P20 able to deliver quite good camera outputs. But color may not be accurate for sometimes. I often turn off AI scenes cause it's boost up saturation and contrast. Night shot able to deliver super sharp and details shot. But it's feel over processed and not feeling natural actually. Depend on your preferences. Use as per your liking..

Anyway, the pictures doesn't look too bad, quite nice. Is it snappy during photo taking? Like, instantaneous?
