Answer is if dont use spen, dont use samsung pay, dont like curve edge that give 3d effect look, then yes p20 pro is better at the camera and price range.

With that let me help you address your doubt of curve edge. Since s8 and note 8 curve edge and infinity display have improved alot now its less curve while it retain the curve properties.

Emui is great coming from a mate 10 pro because the UI is less resourceful because it retain the basic theme to prolong its battery life.

From a Leica branded camera its expected to be good but lacking of mechanical OIS night blurry shots are expected but s9+ have an aperture lens and OIS so night shot should be better.

For the price of rm2800 for such a beast of p20 pro is well worth the money. If note 8 didnt exist would have got this instead.

Phone to make calls and light gaming you dont need a p20 pro but a xiao mi 5A i bought rm339 can do that.

From most review p20 pro camera isnt jaw breaking its still be able to compare with s9+ so is either its their marketing stunt or its just their due time to launch another phone since the emmc issue on p10 plus

For the price you are paying for tricky iphone notch, flat display ( outdated display), leica camera marketing branding, price below 3k, 6gb ram and 128gb its actually a good deal.

Razer phone is also marketing stunt it also uses normal processor snapdragon 845 not like intel i7 processor.

Hua wei runs out of marketing stunt already so could be they feel introducing a 40MP will blow the world but maybe their hardware isnt ready for mobile.

i am not sure about p20 but on samsung we use package disabler pro we can sleep certain apps or certain package like facebook autoupdate and etc

Go challenge yourself capture moon and stars most phones struggles or capture view with only street light from a distance from 500m from the nearest light.

Quite interesting read means 40mp its just a marketing figure but it ultize the 40mp sensor to make a better 10mp with HDR and AI image stabilizer.
