there aren't many choices around locally for handheld units.. the alternatives are brand such as, yeasu or icom (they're available locally as well)
i believe you're referring to those business walkie talkies..(bigger in size, bland-mostly-in-black design, rugged & more robust) than the consumer type (like the talkabout series from motorola). unfortunately, for the sake of bulkiness(the sheer size and its weight), a lot of folks that i surveyed dislike the idea of carrying one ("makes one looks like an illegal dvd peddlers", said one). when it comes to ordinary folks totting around something compact, lightweight.. perhaps cobra radios is fantastic. look at this.. (pictures courtesy of jonas of tech nudge live) at most, they look like the old ericsson handphone but such size command more favorable to those that i asked/survey around.. they said that carrying such device don't look so bad in a mall or public places. unfortunately, cobra is not readily available locally. QUOTE(POORBUYER @ Jul 19 2009, 02:47 PM) i suppose, their job demands it as well? u see mall guard ah, ermm guards mah need to run la, under the rain la, noisy la n stuff like tat, n motorola like wat i said a few pages back, motorola is known for their ruggedness and loudness, daya ketahanan yang kuat so to speak, the only drawback is the price but when those management company buy, they buy in bulk suppose they get special offer? some ive seen even has the multi charger the 1 like u see the police station use wan, but if u dun need the xtra ruggedness mayb opt for something cheaper? but i strongly object the aztech wan, hmm duno la like.. kinda bad quality, bad tx distance, and bad battery life, but perhaps was the 1 i tried mayb others not so bad, but i think aztech stopped producing those d? not sure though |

you sure got a curious sets of observation there.. checking out police's walkie talkie chargers..
yeah, your objection on the aztech unit is well noted.. so far this is the only brand that goes all the way with certifications (sirim, etc).. i can't even get a 100% confirmation that some motorola talkabout sold in malaysia is 100% legal. i guess that's the frustration some of us here will have to bear.. either pay for expensive business radios or end up with really sub-standard toys like the aztech's.. those used by guards/construction workers/etc are quite heavy.. i'm not sure if it's an isolated case, i can hardly hear the voice from the speakers on those motorola.. it's not the statics, it's like the voice cracked up (not sure if it is also due to the microphone from the transmitting unit) |
