Hi, I am new to malaysia payment gateway industry and wondering anyone setup their own fpx with multiple banks and skip payment gateway for ecommerce? What is the process and how long it takes? Is it convenient enough for your customers to make payment?

i am doing it, accepting cash, online transfers, direct bank-in, etc. seems to work well. although there are some who prefer to use their credit cards to collect points, most doesnt seem to mind paying with other means.

For accepting cash, are you using 7-11? So do you think fpx only will work well? I am new to fpx, I have been oversea for decade and they never use fpx there. All local payment gateways need to charge installation fee which is dumb. It's like try as hard as possible to stop people using their services. Just not sure if setting up fpx sdk is as easy as gateway api from paypal, stripe and braintree. And how secure is that? Thanks.

I've asked myself this same question years ago and until now, still remain unanswered. I even sent emails to BNM for advice and it's the same answer, which is all merchants need to go though the available 3rd party payment gateways. I have concluded that unless you want to become the 3rd party entity itself, as a merchant, you cannot skip from 3rd party payment gateway. SenangPay seems to have the lowest transaction fees at the moment. Perhaps you'll want to look into that.

On another note, what kinggekko mentioned

is true and probably the best solution at the moment if you just want to run your business without 3rd party payment gateway.

So people from BNM confirmed with you payment gateway is compulsory? Is it by email or oral? I believe you can actually setup your own maybank fpx but that's only limited to maybank. So the fact might be you have to have at least an account on every single bank that offer fpx service for your customer. Some bank might close source their api but some open source like maybank. Senangpay is indeed the lowest fee you can get because it is from the government.

It is not compulsory. Let me rephrase my previous statements. I have concluded that enabling website online payment:

  • As an individual entity, third party agent like WebCash, ipay88, MOLPay, revPay, MayBank, BillPlz, SenangPay etc.. is the way
  • As a business entity (company), directly involve with any FPX/Direct Debit participating banks of your choice such as through www.paynet.my etc... is the way

But then again, conditions will always change in the future so I am prepared to stand corrected.

It was by a series of email conversations and took place years ago... can't seem to remember when but it was during MOLPay is still known as NBePay smile.gif

Yeah.. I do understand what you meant by this... there are always workaround somehow...

Payment gateway is much recommended if you have an e-commerce site. Otherwise some people would get lazy to do manual transfer.
Personally i feel manual transfer is useful only for those IG/FB stores. But have a few options for your customers.
As for payment gateway, you need to be a SSM registred company. If not you can use Maybank2u Pay/ Paypal.
Process doesn't take that long.. probably 1-2 weeks.
