Hi LYN,

Lately I received a warning email entitled "Warning from TM Abuse Admin-BOTNET (username)".

The sender is "tmcops@tm.com.my".

Did anyone get this kind of email before? Some information regarding this would help me greatly.

I've called TM and they're not helpful at all. They either have no clue or don't want to deal with this issue completely.

In any case I've sent an email to help@tm.com.my and awaiting their reply. Will update accordingly.

Sounds like your computer is compromised and being used in a botnet, as a spam machine or something more sinister. It’s either that or your currently allocated IP address has a history of being used for malicious purposes.

However, scan any computer on your current network with Malwarebytes, and Avast Free, just to see if your computer has been infected with any malware that is using your computer as a botnet.

My auntie's school received such an email last year. I think she called TM helpline also and they don't what she's talking about. Most likely a compromised device within your network attacking somebody on the internet. Could also be someone running nmap or some brute force thingy.

user posted image

You can look at the logs that tmcops should have attached to the email for more details. In my auntie's case, it was a compromised (or maybe not) laptop or something on her public wifi that was trying to brute force some ssh server in Germany. Most likely the German guy noticed it and sent an email to abuse@tm.com.my.

I received a refund cheque from TM for my streamyx (upgraded to unifi)

The cheque is A4 size. How do I bank it in. Can't put in cheque deposit machine. Do I HAVE TO do it through counter?

*if not sure, ask the bank people to help you separate it.... thumbsup.gif

Hold the top and the bottom of the paper and pull hard, the cheque should separate at the micro-perforation. If still cannot, call TM support 100.

Did cordless phone really will interference wifi signal?

Just read some article say that 'router should keep far away from electrical appliances such as bluetooth
devices, cordless phones, microwave ovens to avoid wireless interference.'

However my phone is placed above the modem since day one.

Thanks.

Depends on the cordless phone. The DECT phone that TM gives won’t interfere. They operate at 1.9Ghz. Other cordless phones may since 2.4 and 5Ghz are unlicensed and anyone can use them.

The microwave is the most obvious example. Do a speedtest while standing near the microwave and see what happens when the magnetron is running.

NB: Sample is with KFC inside microwave, results may differ with other food.

The spectral scan waterfall display is also useful for pretending to be the sonar operator in a hunter killer sub.

That strong green line on the right mobile signal from the nearby tower.

Oh okay I see, I just want to make sure money spend in the right way before spending it. laugh.gif
If possible I want to use wired across the home, but don't like the wire casing here and there inside house plus my devices are from years ago so them may not be fully utilize the bandwidth. Hacking the wall is just too troublesome. sweat.gif

Current setup is just too pathetic, C1200 in living room and using Mi Router Mini as repeater in my room on third floor due to the signal only cover 1st and 2nd floor but the signal is sometime changing on each other router, this make me fed-up.

If can rewiring, wish to upgrade to better router or switch on first floor and another AP on third floor. Just wishing la. tongue.gif
